Hello,
We're a small community hostel located in the jungle, 2km from Semuc Champey, in Guatemala. Visiting the hostel is a unique experience, unlike any other in Guatemala, as we are most likely the most remote hostel in the entire country.
Arriving here means hiking through the jungle for 30 minutes down an ancient Mayan path. The property is located right on the edge of the Cahabon River, with a waterfall only a few minutes walk from our cabins.
As we are a community hostel, we take pride in our locally hired staff of 8 including cooks, gardener, handyman, tour guide, drivers and security guards. We are currently looking for volunteers to assist our staff with cooking, daily maintenance and customer service. This generally includes working at the reception, bartending and entertaining guests, organizing space, helping our local cooks with preparing meals for our guests and helping us with other creative projects.
Since we are currently expanding our space and moving towards becoming a retreat, travelers with relevant skills (yoga instructors, meditation, healing) will be given priority.
The ideal volunteer would be someone who is self-motivated and sets high standards for themselves, someone who enjoys meeting new people and is customer service oriented, as part of the work will be keeping guests happy, answering questions, participating in group activities, etc. We pride ourselves in making all of our guests feel at home, and providing them with excellent service while they are here. Being bilingual is also a major plus!
We are also interested in hearing from volunteers who specialize in one or several of these other areas, as it would be great to have some help in these fields as well - yoga instructors, photographers with a quality camera, online marketing / SEO optimization, accounting, hotel or business management, gardening / permaculture, and artists or painters.
We are doing our best to live as sustainably as possible, but we still have a long way to go. We get all of our electricity from solar panels and use a generator only as a backup. We collect rain water for our sinks, showers, and toilets. We have been planting since the moment we moved in, and several of our trees and plants are starting to produce their first fruits and vegetables. We offer always fresh homemade food and dining options at a local Family home.
Your perks as a volunteer would be three meals a day, a bed in one of our tents in the loft or dorms, with a mattress, blankets and pillows and everything needed to get a good night sleep, discounts on drinks and tours, and the beauty of the Guatemalan jungle.
Please send us a message if you are interested in joining our little jungle family.

We live in a rural, remote location in the mountainous jungle on the Cahabon River. We share the land with the Indigenous Q'eqchi' Mayan community. You can learn the local Q'eqchi' language while you are here, learn about local farming practices and way of living, learn all about cacao and how to make chocolate. We hope that our volunteers put in the effort to create a warm, welcoming space to our local community.

The jungle, cocoa trees, river, mountain, and nature were awesome, and the hostel was so quiet and relaxing, and time pass quickly.
