Beschreibung
Important note: this is not a holiday stop for your trip around central/south America. We are looking for people who share our vision, who are passionate about sustainable self-sufficiency living and who really want to make a difference in this world. We need help to get the project up and running so we can open up to the public soon.
The aim of the project is to setup a place of education to promote the use of bamboo and permaculture practices and demonstrate a different way of society. We also aim to create a living environment in harmony with nature and possibly start building a permanent community with the right people. We are also looking at establishing a permanent team here at La Esquinita so there are opportunities for those with vision, enterpreneurship and values of hard work, humility, generosity and kindness.
The aim of the farm is not only to produce food, we also want to offer the region a meeting place in the heart of nature for local cultural events. To this end, we have various spaces where local people can come to rest or meet, and we are happy to make La Esquinita space available to local artists or groups for events. We're always happy to see people enjoying the space we're trying to build!
About the farm:
The farm is located near Dulce Nombre de María, Chalatenango region, at the base of the mountains.
This is a 2 hectare farm with its own river, bamboo forest, fruit trees, orchards, greenhouse, paths and walks, swimming pool, resting areas.. and we are implementing and experimenting with permaculture practices where we can. We use zero agrotoxic chemicals or pesticides, we make our own alternative bio solutions.
We use bamboo to build small houses, furniture and other objects such as children's toys and wherever possible.
We cultivate 100% organic fruit, vegetables and ornamental plants. We also raise a few animals such as goats, chickens, fish and bees.
We speak Spanish, English and French, but a decent level of Spanish is required so that all volunteers can communicate together.

Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten
We live in a rural region of El Salvador, and there's a lot to get to know in the area! By coming here, travelers have the opportunity to experience life in the Salvadoran countryside, especially the typical food. There's also beautiful mountain landscapes and it's cooler here than in the rest of the country.
As we're trying to open up the La Esquinita space for cultural events, it's also possible for people who want to visit us to help us with this and participate in welcoming people to our place for movie nights, meals or other events!
Arbeit
Our vision is not to provide a holiday place to spend a few days, we are looking for volunteers who feel the same passion and who are looking to join us for a minimum of 6 weeks onwards. We often have volunteers who are so happy, they extend their stay for months.
Wake up time is 7am, that's when the cooking team starts. Breakfast is served at 7.30am. Breakfast ends at 7.50am to give people 10min to get ready. If you like having a morning shower or meditation, yoga... please make sure to do these before 7am.
Work is from 8am to 1pm "generally". We expect 4 hours of effective work on the farm plus 1 hour doing housekeeping tasks such as cleaning, cooking etc. Please be ready to start work at 8am with the right clothing on to avoid holding back the rest of team who are ready and wating. Showers, getting changed, brushing teeth, calls... should be already done by 8am or later in the day.
We require volunteers have at least some skills or experience in the areas of, gardening, agriculture, construction, arts & crafts, painting, or general DIY... More important than skills, we are looking for hard-working people who want to leave their mark here.
Some of the daily activities you can expect are harvesting seasonal fruit and vegetables; tending the gardens (as all production is organic, there's work to be done!); learning about various products such as cocoa or turmeric (depending on the season) etc, watering plants, fixing and clearing walkways and tracks...
Other activities include fixing and maintenance of the various spaces, cabins, tree house, swimming pool, creating new growing spaces and terraces or raised beds...
If there are any helpers interested in working with bamboo, that's possible too! Just let us know and we'll do our best to decide what to do. It's a job we unfortunately don't do on an ongoing basis, but all the materials are there.
We share all our organic food and produce and all volunteers participate with cooking and cleaning. We all have shared meals together, we aim to do this in community, individual cooking wastes more energy and creates a lot more cleaning.
Of course, it's not all work, there are lots of nice spaces to enjoy and relax, a swimming pool, hammock areas, an office space to work, games to play with other volunteers, a projector area to watch movies... and we also organize trips to local areas which you are welcome to join.

Unterkunft
For accommodation, we have rustic wooden chalets and camping facilities. Unfortunately, the cabins don't have their own toilets and showers, but the main house is always open. Our house kitchen is open to all, and of course the whole farm area, which covers around 2 hectares.

There are plenty of opportunities for excursions in the region. For example, the small town of Chalatenango is near, as well as La Palma. There are several emblematic mountains in the region that offer camping spaces, and also rivers.
We'll be happy to help you find what you're looking for!
