    Hello!

I'm Takaaki, the director of a non-profit organisation (NPO) on the Shonai Peninsula in Mitoyo, Kagawa. I worked for a trading company in Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, India and Iran, and I studied in Germany.

Today, most people see things from the land. But people in this area used to live with the sea at the centre of their lives. I find this very interesting, and I want to keep it for the future. That is why I started the project.

    What we do:
    - Beach clean-ups and research on marine debris (Shonai Peninsula and Awashima Island)
    - Exchange events with local people and children
    - Using the old Elementary School (closed in 2014) as a place for the community

When we held a summer camp, I was really happy to see the children feeling free and running around, having fun.

We host 1-2 people at a time. There are no fixed shifts.

The old school building is owned by a local company that runs a campsite and a cafe there. They are separate from our NPO, and we never ask volunteers to help with them.

To apply, please use the template in "What else".

    Arbeit

There is no fixed schedule. About 2 hours a day is enough.

Once a month, we clean a beach on the Shonai Peninsula. We choose the day by looking at the wind and the tide. Every 3 months, we take the ferry to Awashima Island and clean the beach there.

Once a month, we also have an event with local people and kids. Please bring a game or a song from your country. At free events, you can also share a dish from your country.

Some events are free and some have a small fee. At paid events, you join as a guest. We never ask you to prepare or serve food or drinks for paying guests.

On other days, you can help me record the trash we collected, or get ready for the next event. We never ask you to work for the campsite or the cafe.

  • Unterkunft

    Unterkunft

Men stay in the staff room in the old school. Women stay in my house in the same village. If there are two volunteers, you share a room. We have bedding, a kitchen, a shower and Wi-Fi.

Please buy and cook your own food. The supermarket is 1 hour by bus, so it is a little inconvenient. At free events, we often cook and eat together.

    Staying here is free.

I can pick you up at JR Takuma Station, and you can borrow a bicycle. There are not many buses here.

In your free time, you can walk around the peninsula, watch the sunset at Chichibugahama Beach, or climb Mt. Shiude.

Please check that your visa allows volunteer activities in Japan.

When you message me, please tell me your dates, a little about yourself, why you want to come, and what you would like to share from your country.
