It was an incredibly rewarding experience to work for this very special community. Back in November 2020, with just a matter of days before my home country was going into a lockdown, I was fortunate enough to be able to organise this volunteer placement, leaving just one day before my country was going into a lockdown. As I look back on the 4
… read more months volunteering here, I feel like part of their family and community. Patricija, the manager here, was super accommodating when I arrived, even offering up her home for me to quarantine in after arriving in Latvia. I was always given a range of tasks to do with the villagers (disabled adults living here). My work here included chopping firewood, cooking meals, milking cows, producing films for the Christmas nativity and new years eve celebrations, leading a disco group (something which I never anticipated haha), giving talks/quizzes on British culture and much much more!
I built such a close friendship with the villagers here, who everyday greeted with a smile and a 'Labrit!'. Anyone who comes here to Rozkalni will find it to be very fulfilling to work and care for such kind people. One thing that surprised me upon arriving here is how responsible the villagers were. There is a big focus here to enable the villagers to be as independent as possible. Volunteering here has made me appreciate the importance of this if we all truly want to live in a fairer and more empathetic society. The responsibilities I was given gave me the perfect opportunity to push myself out of my comfort zone, whether that was public speaking or simply trying to integrate into a new community. I hope to continue this attitude as I approach future workaways and eventually university.
Latvia has such a rich culture and strong national identity. Andes in particular taught me a lot about Latvian culture and traditions. When coronavirus sorts itself out a bit, I'm definitely going to be coming back to Latvia to say hi to everyone. I will leave here with a great sense of achievement, and I can't thank everyone enough at Rozkalni Camphill.Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

Camphill Rožkalni had a wonderful experience during this strange time for us all to host Paul as a volunteer. From the moment he joined our little social therapeutic community, we felt he belonged here. It was easy to communicate with him even for our villagers most of whom don't speak English. Paul was engaged in all of our daily activities -

He was also asked for technical assistance with some small IT projects - video, picture taking, etc. We recommend hosting Paul in any kind of workaway project since we see that his communication, adaptation, socializing skills match any community! We are grateful for the time we all spent together with Paul!

Camphill is a lovely community which is providing a valuable service to a community of folks with a whole range of ability and disability. I felt very warmly welcomed by the community, and to work closely with the land was grounding. If you are interested in seeing how a farming community that has been alive for 25+ years functions this is a good

It is hard work at times, that varies depending on the season. I helped harvest the fields, went picking berries, helped with meals and other chores around the house. I am greatfuk for my time there, as it seems to be a very authentic slice of rural Latvian life.
There was only one native English speaker, but I got along with communicating my needs to others as well. Leva, the head of Camphill, is very understanding, grateful and friendly.
A deep thank you to my hosts! I am very grateful to have shared 2+ weeks with you.Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.
