We are looking for enthusiastic, hard working people/person to assist with lots of timber related tasks in September and October.
Welcome to Our Permaculture Smallholding in Rural France
After many years of travelling the world, we finally put down roots in rural France in 2017 to bring our vision of a sustainable, educational, and demonstrative smallholding to life. Since then, we’ve been steadily renovating our home, regenerating the land, and creating a self-reliant lifestyle in the heart of the beautiful French countryside.
We are Glen (UK) and Karen (South Africa), and together we’ve made France our home. Our lives are guided by permaculture, creativity,nature inspired,hard work and community.
Karen is a certified permaculture designer, educator, and life coach.
Glen has a background in engineering and a love for practical problem-solving. His passions include woodland management, forest gardening, charcoal/biochar production, and aquaponics (a project waiting in the wings!).
Life on the Smallholding
Our land is alive with activity and projects. We share it with dogs, chickens, ducks, pigs, sheep, and goats. We grow vegetables in raised beds and in a broadbed area and are busy establishing a low-maintenance perennial food forest. Our pigs are pasture-raised for meat and land clearance and are part of a local Community Pig Club, and we use our sheep’s wool in craft projects. Animal welfare is central to what we do, and we treat every creature here with respect and care.
We also manage our pastures through rotational grazing and run an eco-grazing service in our local area to improve biodiversity and degraded land. As co-founders of a local community association, we often get involved in collaborative projects and events — and volunteers are welcome to join in!
Current Projects
We’d love your help with a variety of hands-on tasks. Current priorities include:
* Small building projects (e.g. pergola for solar panels, gates, and other improvements)
* Fencing for sheep and pigs
* Land clearing and maintenance
* Splitting and stacking firewood
* taking down several dead trees
🌿 What you’ll experience here
Staying with us is more than just helping out — it’s about learning, sharing, and immersing yourself in permaculture life. We’re always happy to share what we’ve learned (the successes and the mistakes!) and we love hearing new ideas too. Volunteers often say they leave with fresh skills, new confidence, and a deeper sense of connection to the land.
If you’re curious about sustainable permaculture, enjoy being outdoors, and want to experience a working small farm in action, this is a place to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in.
ℹ️ Important Notes
* We have four friendly dogs, so volunteers must be comfortable around animals.
* We ask for a minimum stay of one week (7 days) so that you can settle in and have a meaningful experience.
✨ Come Join Us
If you’re looking to immerse yourself in nature, learn more about permaculture, and contribute to a living, breathing smallholding, we’d love to welcome you.Arten von Hilfe und Lernmöglichkeiten

We have bikes available to explore the local area. Lots of walks from the house. Unfortunately as we are quiet rural there is no public transport direct from our property, but we are only 5km from 2 nearest towns.
Larger city such as Lorient 35km away, and many interesting and historic villages in the area.
We are willing to pick up workaways from train stations within reasonable distance, and offer lifts to shops or local attractions when we are able.Etwas mehr Information
