    Hello and welcome !

We are a group of friends who came together around a shared vision: creating a place where nature, people and community can thrive together.

After several years of searching, planning and dreaming, we found a beautiful 6.8-hectare piece of land in the mountains of Monchique, in southern Portugal. The land includes natural springs, a small stream, old agricultural terraces, traditional earthen ruins and a large eucalyptus forest that we are gradually transforming into a more resilient and biodiverse ecosystem.

Our long-term vision is to regenerate the land through reforestation, agroforestry, water retention and ecological restoration while creating a place for learning, connection and meaningful collaboration.

We are still in the early stages of this journey, which means there is a lot happening and plenty of opportunities to contribute and learn.

What we love most about this place is its peacefulness. Most mornings begin with birdsong, the sound of the stream and views across the surrounding hills. At the same time, we are only a short drive from the beautiful town of Monchique and within reach of the Algarve coast.

If you enjoy nature, simple living, learning new skills and being part of a project with a long-term vision, we would love to hear from you.

  • Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten

    Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten

We see cultural exchange as much more than simply sharing a place to stay.

Volunteers become part of an ongoing learning journey and have the opportunity to experience life in rural Portugal while contributing to a long-term land regeneration project.

Depending on the season and current activities, you may learn about topics such as permaculture, agroforestry, water harvesting, ecological restoration, natural building and off-grid living. We enjoy sharing what we are learning ourselves and exchanging ideas, experiences and perspectives with people from different backgrounds.

Life on the land also offers insights into local traditions, food and the slower rhythm of the Monchique mountains. We regularly connect with neighbours, local farmers and people from the surrounding area and are happy to share what we discover along the way.

One of the unique aspects of this project is that it is still in its early stages. Volunteers have the opportunity to experience the challenges, decisions, successes and occasional setbacks that come with building a long-term regeneration project from the ground up.

Rather than stepping into a finished system, you will witness and contribute to a place that is actively evolving. Many of the things we are building, testing and learning are happening for the first time.

At the same time, we love learning from our volunteers. Many of the best ideas, conversations and skills on the project come from people who have joined us from different countries and walks of life.

If you enjoy meaningful conversations, learning by doing and being part of a project that is still evolving, you will likely feel at home here.

  • Arbeit

    Arbeit

The tasks on our land change throughout the year and depend on the season, weather and current priorities.

At the moment, volunteers may help with:

    • Land regeneration and fire prevention
    • Clearing invasive vegetation and managing eucalyptus regrowth
    • Planting and caring for trees, shrubs and gardens
    • Agroforestry and permaculture projects
    • Building and maintaining paths, terraces and simple infrastructure
    • Water system projects and water harvesting
    • Working with natural and reclaimed materials
    • General land maintenance and organisation
    • Cooking and helping with daily life

Some tasks can be physically demanding and often take place outdoors, especially during the warmer months.

No specific experience is required. We value a positive attitude, curiosity, reliability and a willingness to learn much more than previous skills.

  • Unterkunft

    Unterkunft

We are still in the early stages of developing the project, so accommodation is currently simple and evolving.

We provide accommodation for all our volunteers. Depending on availability and the size of the group, you will either stay in our caravan or in one of our furnished tents. The tents are equipped with a mattress and bedding, so there is no need to bring your own camping equipment.

If you enjoy travelling with your own tent, campervan or motorhome, you are of course very welcome to use your own accommodation instead.

The land offers plenty of beautiful spots to camp, surrounded by nature, with access to shade, fresh air and peaceful surroundings.

We currently have compost toilets and basic washing facilities. Water is available on the land, and we continue to improve our infrastructure step by step as the project develops.

We provide all food for our volunteers, so there is no need to contribute towards groceries. Everyone is welcome to add their preferences or dietary needs to our shopping list, and we do our best to accommodate them whenever possible.

Breakfast and lunch are usually prepared individually, giving everyone the flexibility to eat when and what they prefer. In the evening, we normally cook and enjoy dinner together, which is one of our favourite parts of the day and a great opportunity to share stories, ideas and cultures. Helping with cooking or washing up is simply part of living together and is not counted as part of the volunteering hours.

Whenever possible, we also use fresh vegetables, herbs and fruit from our garden. Meals are mostly vegetarian, although we occasionally prepare meat or fish as well. If you have any allergies or specific dietary requirements, please let us know before your arrival so we can plan accordingly.

Living conditions are simple and closer to an off-grid camping experience than to a guesthouse or retreat centre. If you enjoy spending time outdoors, don't mind a bit of dust and are comfortable with a more off-grid lifestyle, you will likely feel at home here.

One of the special aspects of staying with us is the opportunity to experience the project as it grows. Many of the facilities and systems that future visitors will take for granted are only just being created, and volunteers become part of that journey.

A few additional notes that may be helpful before applying:

    • We generally prefer a minimum stay of two weeks. Three to four weeks is often ideal, as it allows enough time to settle in, get to know the land and make a meaningful contribution.

    • The project is located in a rural area in the mountains of Monchique. Having your own vehicle can be helpful but is not essential. We are happy to discuss travel options before your arrival.

    • We value open communication, mutual respect and personal responsibility. Living and working together is often most enjoyable when everyone contributes to the daily life of the project.

    • Reliable internet is available.

    • Before confirming a stay, we usually arrange a short video call to get to know each other, answer questions and make sure the experience is a good fit for everyone involved.

Most importantly, we are looking for people who are genuinely interested in nature, regeneration, learning and contributing to a project that is still in its early stages. If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.

Digital nomads are welcome, provided they are genuinely interested in contributing to the project and can balance their work commitments with the agreed volunteering schedule. Reliable internet is available on the land, but we are primarily looking for people who want to actively participate in the project rather than simply use it as a place to work remotely.

Hier sind Haustiere in der Regel willkommen

As the project is still developing, facilities are simple and closer to an off-grid camping experience than a holiday campsite. However, many volunteers enjoy the opportunity to disconnect from busy daily routines and spend more time immersed in nature. If you have any specific requirements regarding accommodation, internet, vehicles or pets, please feel free to discuss them with us before applying.
