We are a non-governmental organization, a learning community where volunteers, community leaders, students, and social entrepreneurs develop and apply new social and environmental initiatives that can ultimately improve quality of life and the environment.
The property is on approximately 400 acres of land in Matatlantica rainforest, two hours from Rio de Janeiro in the San Antonio River Valley, a forty-minute walk uphill from the Barrio de Santo Antonio da Serra. It is a very picturesque place surrounded by mountains and water.
The project became active in November 2011 and since then we have turned an abandoned property into a living space for resident workers and volunteers, a center for hosting events and giving courses, and a functioning farm.

Currently we would like to have two volunteers to help perform the following tasks:
1.) Cut, collect and treat bamboo
2.) Repair the bamboo roof on our small bioconstruction building
3.) Weed footpaths and do some weeding and planting in the garden
4.) Cut banana plants and trim dead leaves from them
5.) Plant banana plants
6.) Prune and plant trees
7.) Take care of our chickens.
You don't have to have any experience doing any of these things, just a sense of wonder and enthusiasm!
We are an international hub for environmental education-discovering, enjoying and promoting sustainable solutions to living within nature's means in the twenty-first century. But we are also busy planting, weeding and watering, caring for our living space, our gardens and crops, and each other.
We would love to receive people who have experience in organic farming and bio-construction, and for people who have had substantial previous experience on farms such as ours... but we also need good, old-fashioned manual labour, good ideas and good vibes.
We get up at around 6:45 and start work around 7:30 in order to take full advantage of the cooler morning hours. We don't work hard and fast, but slow and steadily and try to stay busy while taking it easy. The tranquility of the place is a priority, but we're not monks and although we eat a vegetarian diet and many are very health conscious, we prefer good-humoured, open-minded travellers to anyone looking for a specific lifestyle.
Lunch is at 12:30, then you'll be free for the hottest time of the day and we'd like you to to occupy yourselves for an hour or 2 in the late afternoon doing something you would like that's of some benefit to the project. If you don't have anything in mind, we'll probably find something for you to do. There's always something to be wiped down, swept up, put back in its place or fixed and there's always fruit to be picked or thrown out. That doesn't mean we don't spend a lot of time hanging around and chatting.
We're surrounded by medicinal and edible plants to discover and catalogue, as well as an incredible number and variety of fruit trees. People who are enthusiastic about discovering nature's abundance will love it here.
Basically we're super chill and live in a very beautiful place and every day you see a bird, animal, insect, tree or plant you've never seen before.
We're about an hour outside Rio and often go in for the weekends for a change of scene.
Who we need:
Organic Gardener
We're looking for someone who has experience with organic gardening, willing to stay for at least a month.
Graphic designer
We are looking for someone with good taste and experience with photoshop and illustrator to work on our website and a number of print projects. Please send portfolio or link to online portfolio with your application.
Manual Labour
We need good-spirited, motivated, interested people who don't mind getting their hands in the soil, weeding, planting and turning compost.
Engineers
We have a variety of projects with bio-construction (bamboo, green roofs, etc.) and environmental management (infrastructure, water treatment, etc.)

We can accommodate up to 8 volunteers in single and shared spaces. The property has many facilities and comfortable living spaces.
In your free time there are trails to be hiked on hills and in a jungle filled with fruit trees and strange animals. There is the nearby Imperial City Petropolis, where the Portuguese royal family once lived, and it takes about an hour on the bus to get to Rio, where you can lounge on the beach and party in the evenings.
