I live in a bi-lingual (English/Irish) Gaeltacht in NW Donegal.
My home is situated about 3km uphill from the village of Gortahork. The view from the house of the Derryveagh mountains is spectacular. It is close to beaches, lakes, rivers and mountains . The area is popular for hill walking, cycling, surfing, kayaking, fishing etc. It is a place that attracts many artists because of its beauty. It is also popular with those interested in Irish traditional music. During the summer a lot of students from other parts of Ireland come here to practice the Irish language. I have six children but only my youngest daughter now lives at home with me. It is a rural, quiet but friendly area.

This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Anyone interested in traditional Irish music can go to regular sessions in the local pubs.
The property has become run down since my children left home so help with some general maintenance outside would be really welcome.

Volunteers will stay in the family home. Four of the five bedrooms are en-suite with the other having use of the main bathroom. There is a rec. room with a projector for showing films. They can also have the use of an office if needed for study etc. We now have excellent internet..
There are two buses daily from Gortahork (3kms from the house) direct to Dublin, Galway and Derry and one to Belfast. Donegal airport is twenty minutes away by car and has daily flights to Dublin and Glasgow. Letterkenny town is 35kms away. If no car is available people walk, cycle, hitch or use taxis to get about locally. It is a very safe place.
