  Hi,
  my name is Gabriel and I am originally from Sweden.
  I moved to Laos in 2011 and quickly fell in love with the relaxed lifestyle, the beautiful nature, and the local culture.
  
  In 2013, together with my Lao wife, I took over this place located in the village of Muang Ngoi.
  Since then, we have continued developing the place and making it a welcoming space for travelers from all over the world. My wife’s family also lives here in the village, which gives visitors the opportunity to experience authentic local life and culture.
  
  Our place is surrounded by impressive mountains, green landscapes, and peaceful riverside scenery. Life here is slower and close to nature. In your free time, you can explore viewpoints, visit caves, discover nearby villages, go swimming, kayaking, or simply relax and enjoy the atmosphere.
  
  I enjoy meeting people from all over the world and creating a friendly and welcoming environment. I hope Workawayers who stay with us not only enjoy helping with projects around the property but also feel part of daily life here and leave with great memories of northern Laos.

  Living in a small village in Muang Ngoi gives Workawayers the opportunity to experience a slower and more traditional side of life in Laos.
  My Lao wife’s family also lives here in the village, so there are many natural opportunities to connect with local people and experience daily life beyond tourism.
  We often spend time together, share meals, exchange stories, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of village life. Workawayers can explore the area, join local activities, and experience local traditions and culture in an authentic way.
  Through hosting, I enjoy sharing my experience of living in Laos, practical knowledge about maintaining and improving a small guesthouse property, and insights into everyday life here. Volunteers can also learn about gardening, outdoor projects, and adapting to a simpler lifestyle close to nature.
  
  At the same time, I enjoy meeting people from different countries and learning about different cultures, ideas, languages, skills, and perspectives. For me, cultural exchange is one of the most rewarding parts of hosting and I hope everyone leaves with good memories and new experiences.

  Arbeit

  At the moment, the main focus is on gardening, agriculture, and outdoor improvement projects around the property.
  The tasks are generally simple and no previous experience is required, but they can sometimes be physically active due to the tropical climate and warm temperatures.
  
  To make the work more enjoyable, we usually work during the cooler morning and late afternoon hours.
  
  Possible activities include:
  
  1. Gardening & agriculture – planting, watering, maintaining green areas, and helping improve the outdoor spaces
  
  2. Construction & improvement projects – helping with small building, repair, and maintenance tasks. Practical ideas and hands-on experience are always welcome
  
  3. English teaching (optional) – sometimes we also welcome help from people who can teach basic English. This can be done in a small classroom-style setting inside the house and will mainly be for the children of the family. The focus is on very simple English, basic vocabulary, pronunciation, and having fun through playful learning, games, and informal interaction. No professional teaching experience is required, but some basic pedagogical understanding or experience with children is appreciated. The goal is not formal education, but relaxed, practical exposure to simple English in an enjoyable environment.
  
  Most of the time, we work together, so you will often help directly alongside me or with others around the property. The atmosphere is relaxed and flexible, and everyone contributes in different ways depending on interests and skills.
  
  ! A skill that is especially appreciated is experience as a bicycle or motorbike mechanic, as there are occasionally opportunities to help with simple repairs and maintenance. However, this is completely optional and not required. !
  
  The usual schedule is around 4–5 hours per day, 5 days per week. There are no fixed working hours, and we try to stay flexible regarding both the time of day and which days are worked. We understand that Workawayers may want time to explore the area, relax, or make private plans, so whenever possible we try to arrange the schedule in a way that works well for everyone while still keeping projects moving forward.
  It is important to know that volunteers are not helping inside the hostel and are not working for guest operations. The focus is on outdoor projects, improving the property, and enjoying life in the village and surrounding nature.

  Unterkunft

  Workawayers stay free of charge in a villa located directly next to our place, where I also live.
  
  Accommodation includes 4 private rooms, each with a double bed and a private bathroom with hot water.
  
  Rooms are equipped with:

  There is also the possibility to do laundry and access to a fully equipped kitchen where volunteers can prepare their own meals.
  Meals are not included, but volunteers are welcome to use the kitchen to cook for themselves.
  Outside in the village, there are also several options to get food, including street food stalls and small local restaurants within walking distance.
  
  We want volunteers to feel comfortable and have a quiet and relaxing place to rest and enjoy their free time.
  
  We can provide ingredients kitchen and sometimes common family meals. We have coffee, tea and drinking water available in the public place area of our guesthouse/dorm at all time.

  It is important to know that the village, Muang Noi (Muang Ngoi Neua),
  is a very small, local and quite remote riverside village.
  
  Life here is simple and closely connected to nature.
  It is not a touristy or party destination, but a peaceful place surrounded by stunning landscapes, mountains and the river.
  
  Muang Noi can be reached by boat or, in theory, via a basic road connection. However, there are no buses or vans operating to the village, and the only regular public transport is by boat.
  The road is not commonly used for travel, is very basic, and can be difficult depending on weather conditions.
  
  There are two main boat routes:
  
  From the south (most common route):
  Travel to Nong Khiaw, which can be reached by bus or minivan from Luang Prabang. From Nong Khiaw, a slow boat goes upriver to Muang Noi. The boat ride takes around 1 hour and passes beautiful limestone cliffs and untouched nature.
  
  From the north:
  You can also come via Muang Khua (often reached from Oudomxay or Phongsali). From Muang Khua, you take a boat journey down the Nam Ou River. This is a longer but very scenic ride through remote mountain landscapes and traditional villages along the river. The boat will pass Nong Khiaw on the way and continue to Muang Noi.
  
  There are only a few small restaurants and street food options in the village, and nightlife is very limited. Instead, the focus here is on nature, calmness, hiking, swimming in the river, and experiencing authentic local village life.

  We can offer two possible parking options for campers or motorhomes: Next to the main property (alley/garden area): There is a small space in the alley next to the garden where campers can park. This spot is simple but convenient and close to the accommodation. Electricity is available, and there is also access to a washing machine. Please note that space is limited and usually suitable for a maximum of 1–2 vehicles. Alternative parking (500m away): There is also an additional parking option on another family property (owned by my brother), located around 500 meters away. This area offers more space and can be used when the main spot is occupied or for larger vehicles. Both options are safe and in a quiet environment.
