We have enjoyed a very special Workaway experience with Kitty and Nick. Covid regulations in Spain meant that we got there 6 days earlier than planned so that we could house and cat sit and they could be at their new property (in a different municipality) before the new restrictions kicked in. We were extremely comfortable at Casa and Diego the
… read more cat turned up regularly to be fed. We enjoyed looking after (and using!) the pool and light sweeping/weeding in the wonderful sculpture garden. We had great communication throughout our stay and after 10 days or so they got permission for us all to commute between the two properties and carry on with the move.
As well as furniture, we loaded several sculptures into the trailer and helped with positioning them in the new garden. We also helped with building tasks, painting and window cleaning. Kitty and Nick were very hospitable and great company, preparing lunch for us on a few of the days.
Our time there was very rewarding. Kitty and Nick are well-travelled and modest about their many accomplishments in life. They have a great vegetable plot and lots of fruit trees that they are perfect to add to your daily meals .
The job was mainly cleaning and manteinment the sculture garden and around, we painted a wood ceiling, breackout almonds and prepare our pesto sauce too. They are very flexible to you and the tasks.

Anja and Tjasa stayed with us a couple of months. Though they are very young, we were amazed at the maturity and dedication with which they tackled all the jobs we gave them. We felt for them sometimes, as our sculpture garden has mostly older visitors, and it is far to any place where young people can meet each other and do fun things. But they

Their biggest jobs were sanding down and repainting five large totem poles. They did a lovely job of it.
Their other major accomplishment was to help me with a giant wall mosaic, approx 12 meters by 4 meters.
Altogether, we'd recommend them for any workaway post as they are very versatile and keen to learn. We wish them all the very best and would welcome them back any day.

… read more is one of the most beautiful places that we've ever seen and it was a fun environment to work at.
You get to meet a lot of new people, practice English/Spanish and learn a lot of about different areas of work (from general maintenance, gardening, art (sculpture, paintings), painting/building etc.) so you are never bored with repetitive type of work.
It would be way too cheesy to try to describe the environment at the Garden and Costa del Sol, you have to be there to have a full experience. The climate is extraordinary, food of Andalucia is delicious and nature is beautiful, especially if you like hiking (there is a lot of places you can go on foot). The accommodation is great, but because it's so warm most of the time you spend outdoors.
Our sincere recommendation is to visit the garden even if you are not going to be a Workawayer, because during the two and a half months, we didn't meet one visitor that wasn't charmed by garden's magic.
We just want to say that we are more than sure that we want to come back in near future, as workawayers and as Kitty's and Nick's friends.

One of our main tasks was to build a stone wall which was both an excellent physical exercise and creative work. We are really proud that we could build a wall from scratch!
The other favourite pastime was dealing with the guests who visited the garden on open days. We met a lot of interesting people while we learnt how to work in a bar. Double pleasure!
We are very grateful to Kitty and Nick that besides our daily tasks they gave us the opportunity to learn new things such as mosaic making, welding, using the lathe machine and participating in the giant mosaic decoration as well. It’s always a pleasure to spend time with as inspirational and interesting people as them, we enjoyed every minute!
During this time, we lived in a separated apartment with a panoramic terrace, where we often grilled or just starred at the amazing view.

Keith and Gillian has been helping us twice now to run our Sculpture Garden, and we hope that they will come back to help us again this year.
Their continued return speaks volumes about the trust and appreciation we have for them. They are a lovely couple with a variety of skills. Not only do they have a broad knowledge of how to care for a botanical garden, but they were invaluable help in dealing with the public on visiting days. The work consisted of meeting and greeting visitor, making them feel welcome, giving information and working behind the bar.
Gill is in addition very artistic and was extremely helpful assisting me in making a huge mosaic, a project which took several months.
Keith is a modest, steadfast guy, an all-rounder with a great many DIY skills
They are a very pleasant, reliable couple who needed no supervision, working at their own initiative and seeing what needs doing. I recommend them highly for any type of work, dealing with the public, house-sitting, etc.

… read more away from everything. If you need some peace and quiet, it's definitly worth to visit them! From the first moment I felt so much at home, they were so friendly and laidback (if they were not working, because they are hard workers too).
My work was not hard at all. Daily tasks consist of cleaning windows, cleaning the house a little bit and working in the garden. Even though it was very warm, it was still so much fun and relaxing for me. They gave me freedom in chosing what I wanted to do. After work (5 hours a day) I could refresh myself in the swimming pool with an AMAZING view.
Food was always very tasty. They cooked for me too. Nick and Kitty like to eat vegetarian, so I joined them. Furthermore they have delicious fruits (like figs and other fruits which name I could not remember) from their own trees, what made the meals so much better.
On my last day I made little short movies about Kitty's garden and my experience over there. I know I promised you to publish it online but untill now I haven't had time or professional software to edit! Now I'm in university again so I can start editing the movies and I will send them later to you!
