I spent a week with Lizzy and had a wonderful time. She has a nice farm with lots of animals and great nature all around with beautiful hiking trails, which I explored every day.

Our week at Lizzies was very disappointing and had a very sudden and unfortunate end.
There are many things to it. First of all, we never really felt welcome or appreciated around the house. The information she gave was often very unclear, and there where rarely any appreciation for the work that we did, only about the things that wasn't good
… read more enough. There where absolutely nothing to do in our sparetime, and she never offered anything in that time. Besides that, it would have been great if she had told us beforehand that there where absolutely no internet at the house, as her page says.
Furthermore, she told us in her message that she would need help with her horses (why we came there in the first place), but we never had any interaction with any of them, or where offered it. The only things we did was fixing the garden, so her house would be easier to sell. Which is fine, but not if you claim that you are a horsefarm and that you need help with that.
We felt okay with all these things, enjoyed the nature instead, (the weather was luckily amazing), talked to her sweet kids and animals, and enjoyed her great cooking! We wanted to get the best out of the situation.
We would never had written any of this, if it wasn't for the sudden ending.
The agreement was, that we would stay there for two weeks (the place is in the middle of nowhere, so if you dont have a car, you are kind of stuck), but on the 6th day (working 5 of them) she suddenly tells one of us that she was running out of water, and that she wouldn't have enough for all of us. So in her very confusing way of explaining, she said something about that she wanted us to leave "in a couple of days or maybe today or tomorrow" (again, very unclear). Then she offered to drive us somewhere if we would need that, but no sorry for having us working 50 hours without getting anything out of it.
She told us to have a chat about it and figure out what to do, so we went to the nearest internetspot (1 km from the house) to figure out what to do. When we came back, she asked if we had found anything, and we told her that we had texted a few places but we waited for answers. Then she told us that we had to leave immediately because we had left the house without telling her and that it was not fair to her (!).. As we understood it (unclear again), she expressed that she didn't want people to leave on a working day (even though she just told us that we had to leave as soon as possible, and we actually asked her in the morning what she wanted us to do, workwise). We told her that it was impossible to find anywhere to stay that quickly (especially without internet), and that we needed a little more time. She said that, that wasn't fair to HER.
We felt treated very unreasonable and got upset. She wanted us to leave immediately because she couldn't have people staying without working (apparently forgetting we had been for 5 days). Then (unfortunately) one of us lost our temper and said some things we wish we hadn't, and the situation was escalated a bit. Probably because of all the unsatisfying things during the week had to end with HER feeling treated unfairly.
Everything was about her and her family needs, and because her son apparently had to go visit his girlfriend at that moment, we had to rearrange everything to fit in her schedule.
Imaging waking up in the morning, wondering if you have the day off or not - then 20 minutes later being told that you have to leave soon (or in a couple of days), expecting to have some time to figure out what to do, but then 3 hours later being dropped off in a very small city with nowhere certain to go.
Credit to her for driving us to the nearest city, even though one of us had said some bad things in anger (apologized for it afterwards).
We left feeling used only as free labor - not as a two-way exchange of help.
We got dropped off without any kind of apology...Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

I would definitively recommend this farm to everyone, especially people who loves horses! Lizzy is a very giving and spiritual woman that I was happy to help. I learnt a lot during my 2 weeks stay. Lizzy has 2 farms with horses, one of them with unlimited WiFi. So it’s making up for the farm where we don’t have any reception ^^

I'm really happy that I stayed here and I often think back to the nice moments we had, for example chasing the sunset in Lizzie's awesome van for that perfect picture or pretending to be cowboys with Omer, the other volunteer, and rounding up the horses to get them into the other paddock (which was heaps of fun once we got the hang of it).
This was by far one of the best Workaway experiences I've had and I've made some really good friends here.

I stayed with Lizzy and her beautiful family for 2.5 weeks. It was my first workaway experience and definitely think I gained a lot during that time. The work was varied (inside or outside), at a few different locations. The first week I was alone and after work there was a lot of time to spend by yourself as the family is doing their own things.

Lizzy's place is a great spot if you want to experience remote tasmanian farm lifestyle and quietness. Lots of farm animals around, Wallabies jumping in the paddocks, possums running over your roof and many birds singing in the surrounding bush.
The next town (Wynyard or Burnie) is like half an hour drive away and it could be better to have your
… read more own car if you wanted to go around.
The neighbours (we got to know them on a party) are very kind, friendly and helpful.
Internet might be a bit tricky although they are trying to fix it. The only phone operator that's working out there is Telstra, forget about everything else.
Accomodation is simple and consists in small cabins or caravans. There is only one bathroom for the whole family and the workawayers, plus a composting toilet.
Food is good and Lizzy made a big effort to provide me with vegetarian meals.
She is a busy woman, all day around with house and kids but still she tried to make my stay as comfortable as possible (after a long hard garden working day she might offer to pamper yourself in the hot whirlpool!!!) and she is always positive.
The kids are well educated, but I hadn't so much to do with them, they were making their own stuff (the bigger ones) or were taken care of by Lizzy or the elder kids.
There is a lot of work to do, mostly gardening, cleaning the paddocks, setting up the workshop and cleaning in the house. It was fair and time was flexible, so we didn't need to work outside when it was pouring or the sun burned too hot. She gives clear intructions and then leaves you on the work by yourself, still being there if you might have any questions.
There was another workawayer with me (Mikkel) and I really appreciated his company in work and spare time. It could get a little bit lonely there if you are all by yourself. At least make sure that you have a nice book with you!
The only thing I really missed was working with the horses. I applied at Lizzy's for that, but although she has a lot of horses they are all around in different paddocks and the neighbour's farms and there is no work to do with them. Also there was no opportunity to ride.
I recommend to stay at Lizzy's farm for people who enjoy remote lifestyle and are not too picky. If you like nature, quietness and bushwalks that's the right spot to go to.Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

I stayed on the farm for 4 days and had a mixed experience. I believe it was only bad timing when I was there so would recommend everyone to make up their own mind on their stay. Lizzy picked me up on Thursday afternoon and told me they were going to leave on Saturday morning, which is when I will be looking after all the animals until they will
… read more return, I started working on Friday. As Lizzy is really busy with the little kids (who she is doing a great and honorable job with), I was left alone on the farm to do a variety of gardening, animal feeding and poo picking jobs. I worked more than 5 hours a day, by my own choice to keep busy and I didn't expect a great appreciation but at least a "good job" or "thank you for that" as a sign of recognition would have been nice.
On Saturday morning they left and came back on Sunday in the evening. I wouldn't have minded if it would have been discussed beforehand, rather than by the time I got there. This way I felt a bit "dumped" and alone. I also didn't do any horse work, which is why I went there in the first place, which was also the case, because the family was away for the weekend and was on the agenda for the next week.
There is no wifi as it says on Lizzy's profile, which I didn't mind too much, but it is a bit misleading and annoying if you want to plan your further trip. The accomodation takes a day to get used to, the dinners where amazingly good (my highlight of the day).
Lets put it this way, if you want a farmstay where you can experience a simple lifestyle, this is a great place to go to.
Don't expect too much comfort or integration by the family, as the little foster kids obviously can't meet new people all the time, so it's more about the animals over there, than meeting the locals.
Like I said, I truly believe it was bad timing and think there is a good chance of you having a great time there, depending on your expectations.Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.
