    Roberta is my name, I am the Manageress and Board member for a women's menstrual health organisation. I come from a beautiful community called Hohoe located in the Volta Region of Ghana. I am a passionate advocate for women and girls, committed to women emancipation in Health and Education. I have 5 years experience in hosting groups of volunteers from the USA, Japan, Canada and Germany.

    We are a non-profit Ghanaian organization with a dedicated team that collaborate with schools and rural communities in finding lasting solutions to PERIOD POVERTY. We have 5 locally employed staff which include; the Production Manageress who is responsible for the production of our locally made sanitary pads and batik fabric, the Board Chairman who is responsible for the over all governance of the organization. We also have the Programmes Coordinator who ensures that all field works are carried out, we have the IT Specialist who ensures that all issues related to IT are done and we have the Manageress who is responsible for the management of the organization.

    In the rural areas of Ghana, adolescent schoolgirls are faced with a significant impediment in handling their menstrual cycles. This challenge arises from the absence of accessible and hygienic menstrual products as a result of their inability to afford disposable pads. This challenge sets off a chain of adverse outcomes that impede school going girls and women’s health and well-being. Girls undergoing menstruation often absent themselves from school due to the unavailability of sanitary pads, affecting their academic performance. Improvised menstrual hygiene solutions such as the use of unhygienic materials like rags and paper heighten their vulnerability which leads to infections, illness sickness while also isolating them and fostering feelings of shame.

    The absence from school means missing vital lessons and potentially exams, which can have long-term consequences. This places them at a further disadvantage compared to boys and jeopardizes their future dreams. More worryingly, regular absenteeism due to menstruation-related issues may result in repeating classes and eventually dropout due to poor academic progress as a result, many vulnerable school girls resort to seeking money from their male peers to purchase pads, often leading them into social vices which ends some of the girls in teenage pregnancy making it difficult to return to school.

    In other to end these problems the organization is educating, producing and distributing Reusable Sanitary Pads to empower school girls to have confidence in themselves while pursuing academic laurels. We also educate the boys to know about menstruation and how they can assist their sisters or classmates during their menstrual cycle. Educating boys will also help stop the stigma and shame associated to menstruation.

    We work in a rural area where you will experience the day to day activities of a typical Ghanaian which includes cooking with families, going to the river side and helping the community folks to make customized batik fabrics and the pad. You will also get to educate community members about maintaining a good menstrual hygiene. The fun side is the interactions with the community women where they share their stories and showcase their source of empowerment.

    Help us empower rural school girls through menstrual hygiene education. Menstruation is a natural process yet for many young girls in Ghana, it remains a source of confusion, stigma and even health risks. With little or no access to proper menstrual hygiene education, many schoolgirls resort to using unsafe materials like unclean cloth, paper and rags, leading to infections and long-term health complications. Worse still, the lack of proper awareness makes them vulnerable to exploitation, resulting in teenage pregnancies and school dropouts. We believe that education is the key to breaking this cycle of ignorance and vulnerability. That is why we are launching a Menstrual Hygiene Campaign aimed at educating schoolgirls in rural communities about the importance of menstrual hygiene. We request workawayers who have the following skills;

    1. Workawayers will help us conduct menstrual hygiene awareness sessions in 10 communities. These sessions will equip girls with the knowledge they need to help manage their periods safely and confidently, reducing health risks associated with poor menstrual hygiene and also establish Adolescent Reproductive Health Clubs in 10 community schools. These clubs will serve as safe spaces where girls can receive mentorship, ask questions and discuss issues related to menstrual health, self-care and personal development.

    2. Digital Skills. We want workawayers who can assist us with social media marketing skills, by keeping our websites and all social media handles reflecting our day to day activities and driving numbers to our posts.

    3. Fund raising. Our aim is to end period poverty in Ghana therefore we need funds to help us carry out all projects that will enable the girl child have access to our menstrual pad and the education needed. Thus, we need workawayers who can help put together fundraising strategies we can adopt and implement
