Our home here is the fulfilment of a dream that started 10 years ago when my wife Juliana and I first came to this magical mountain on Colombia's Caribbean coast. Our property is located at 1,200 metres above sea level, somewhere between the snow and the sea in the jungle-covered Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains.
We want to share this place with people who love nature and want to take a break from the modern world without giving up their comfort, so we're transforming our home into a café and hotel. We've made lots of progress on our project and currently have 5 paid staff working mostly in masonry, but still need help with two specific tasks--woodwork and permaculture.
We're looking for a carpenter volunteer who want to play an active role in helping us launch our business in exchange for their skills while enjoying the lush surroundings and inspiring sunsets, and our delicious, home-cooked vegetarian food.

The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is a truly unique place in the world. It's the tallest coastal mountain range in the world, with Colombia's highest snowy peak (Pico Cristobal Colón at 5,700 masl) looming less than 40km away from the Caribbean Sea. Our property is located up the mountain from the town of Minca, at 1,200 metres above the coastal city of Santa Marta, which can be seen from our property. On clear days, you can see boats sailing in and out of the port while toucans and macaws flying the skies over the dense jungle. Sunsets are truly magnificent here and every evening offers a different light show as the sun sinks behind the Caribbean sea and the jungle prepares for night.
We offer a friendly and flexible work environment and are looking for people who are ready to work but are also interested in the social and cultural exchange, and are interested in the tourism industry.
We're looking to fill two specific roles:
1 - Someone to help with carpentry/woodwork. Much of the construction around the property uses wood--roof structures, furniture and decorations, and lots more--so we are looking for someone with the creative imput and professional experience to help us bring our visions to life, and who will pay very close attention to detail and the integration of our home in nature. We have nearly all the tools you would find in a wood workshop and need someone that knows how to build windows, doors and other woodwork classics. Unfortunately, for the complexity of the design and wood work needed, we only accept volunteers with professional experience or fitting the above requirement.
At this stage, this is the urging requirement for us, please write to us if you can help.

A single volunteer or a couple would have a private room with a shared bathroom in the main house. There is hot water, internet, drinking water, and three meals a day. Additional drinks (beer, fruit juicies) will be charged. Volunteers can buy anything else they need in the town of Minca or the city of Santa Marta.
If you're tired of relaxing in our hammocks, enjoying the view, birdwatching, and chatting to travellers passing by, you can explore more of the mountains and say hi to our neighbours. There are a few hostels and cafés in the area if you want a change of scenery and you can also hike down to the creek or up the mountain within our property for great views and cool natural showers. If you like nature, you won't feel bored here!
