    Dear guest,
we are a family of three and we have had beautiful experiences with others volunteers in the recent years that allowed us to introduce our son to different cultures. We all like to learn about new cultures, languages and habits. We are looking for a proactive girl or woman (No male) able to improve English or teach Spanish or German to our son Alessio.

I am Michela, I am 47 years old. My partner Antonio is 44 years old and speaks English at an intermediate level. Our son Alessio is 6 years old. Alessio speaks both Italian and English, mainly thanks to these experiences.
Antonio and I work in a factory that produces biscuits and bakery products.
We work on three shifts (including the night shift) and have different working hours. Depending on parents' work shifts, there may be minor babysitting needed, included in the 5 hours volunteer requirement.

Because of our work, the volunteer will often find himself alone at home or with one of us (me and Antonio) who will sleep depending on the shifts we will have in those weeks.

We live in Montichiari, an Italian town with over 25,000 inhabitants situated in Lombardy.
Near Montichiari there is Brescia (18 km far away) and Desenzano del Garda (14 km far away) located on Lake Garda, the largest lake in Italy.

We have hosted girls and women who speak English in our home to join our family and share our culture and Italian food.
Italy has so much to offer and from our city you can easily reach Lake Garda and a lot of cities: Verona, Brescia, Venice, Milan, Bergamo, Padova, Treviso, Florence, Bologna, Rome.

Please note: We love this website because it's a form of cultural interchange, and we want to have guests who are really interested in a human and cultural interchange. For this reason we won't be available to host volunteers whose aim is to apply for citizenship or people (Au Pair) who are interested in a salary for the time passed together.

    Warning notice:
By Italian law, we are required to inform the local authorities of the presence of any guest staying with us, regardless of length of stay. If you choose to spend some time with us, we will need a copy of your id to include in the declaration of hospitality. Non-EU citizens can only spend 90 days in the Schengen area (of which Italy is a member state). If they intend to spend more than 90 days in Italy (or any other Schengen country), they will need a visa. The visa can only be obtained from an Italian consulate located in their country of origin prior to departure and it is essential to apply for a permit to stay in Italy.

Stunning monuments and buildings can be visited in town all throughout the year, among which the Bonoris Castle built over the ancient Rock at the end of the 1800 by the count Gaetano Bonoris. The small, magnificent Bonoris Theatre is located right below the Castle: it was inaugurated on October 18th 1890 with the opera “Traviata” written by the famous Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi and it offers a variety of excellent shows of different genres (opera, plays, concerts). The most significant monument is Saint Pancrace Abbey which is located on the Hill in the southern part of the historical centre. Another important monument is the Duomo dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It was built in different stages and finished in the 1700. During a solemn celebration the Duomo became a Basilica in 1900. Inside the church a very important painting representing “The Last Supper” can be appreciated. It was painted by Girolamo di Romano, the so called Romanino. We must also mention the thirty churches existing on the territory : Saint Peter’s Church in front of the Basilica, Saint Mary Church , Saint Marguerite and Saint Cristina Churches in the countryside. A fantastic, first quality system of stunning museums must be mentioned: from the Pasinetti Art Gallery, to the Lechi Museum, from the Bergomi Museum to the archaeological Museum and the History and War Museum. Bonoris Castle Piazza Santa Maria, 36 Built at the end of the 19th century. Opening hours: Saturday from 3 pm to 7 pm, Sunday from 10 am to 12pm and from 3 pm to 7 pm from may 2nd to October. Last entrance: 40 minutes before closure. Entrance : only guided tours with a fee. In other days, guided tours upon request (min 10 people). Christina: Xavier, oh my God…is this a castle? A real castle! Xavier: it’s one of Montichiari symbols. The count Gaetano Bonoris had it built at the end of the 19th century , he wanted it exactly on the ancient medieval Rock. Christina: it’s a pure beauty of neo-gothic architecture and it overlooks the whole town… did Bonoris make it his private residence? Xavier: exactly! He wanted it surrounded by a magnificent and huge park and not only he took extreme care of its appearance but took care of each detail, inside and outside, in terms of materials, decorations, and inside frescoes. Christina: the pieces of furniture are spectacular! This place is a continuous discovery… Xavier: Exactly! One of these was the stunning discovery of the count’s secret safe. A treasure needs to be hidden in a castle! Christina. Does the Castle belong to the City Hall now, doesn’t it? Xavier: Definitely yes, since 1995. Now the goal is to make it an attraction for events and tourists from all over the world.
Saint Pancrace Abbey Via Matteotti, Saint Pancrace Hill 12th century Opening hours: On Sunday and on Holidays from April to September 2:30 pm – 6:30 pm Free entrance In other days guided tours upon request. Xavier: here we are, up on Saint Pancrace hill, at last! What’s that building, at the end of the park? Christina: this is Saint Pancrace Abbey. You must think that the existence of this Church has been recorded since the 12th century. Xavier: Amazing! It is beautifully maintained! A masterpiece of Romanesque style. Christina: Come on, let’s have a walk around the Church. Can you see that terrace? From there, we can enjoy the whole view over Borgosotto , the most ancient neighborhood, and the stunning countryside stretching out for kilometers…. Isn’t this sunset awesome? Xavier: absolutely…yes, but, is it possible to see it inside? I have heard that some ceremonies and events are held here. Christina: yes, in the three spacious naves among cruciform pylons and columns, there is still much life and its atmosphere is severe and welcoming at the same time. Xavier: are these capitals paleo-christian capitals? Christina: you know lots of things, well done, Xavier! Walls, on the other hand, are from Botticino caves, and I am sure you will be fascinated by the frescoes… Xavier: they are very ancient masterpieces, dating back to 14th and 16th centuries. Is that…a painting by Romanino? Christina: excellent! Yes, the great painter paid a tribute to Saint Pancrace around 1520 and painted him on a horse.
Lechi Museum Palazzo Tabarino ( former city Hall) 2009 From Wednesday to Saturday 10 am to 1 pm, from 2:30 pm to 6 pm Sunday: 3 pm to 7 pm. Xavier: I adore art! This museum is a little gem! Christina: did you know that there are 185 masterpieces among paintings, drawings and prints? And its Library contains 1500 books on History and Art. Xavier: Of course! They were all donated by the Count and notary Luigi Lechi to the Montichiari City Hall in May 2005. He worked as a Notary in Montichiari from 1957 to 1999 and for sure this had to do with his decision to leave this heritage to the community in Montichiari. Christina: an amazing gesture! And this collection is extraordinary and precious. The Lechi Family has got a long lasting tradition of collections of masterpieces. Luigi Lechi took this tradition since 1961, always searching for masterpieces, especially belonging to the Lombard school of 1600 and 1700. Xavier: these fourteen rooms are so stunning that they are the perfect location for such an artistic treasure. Christina: I feel in love with this museum, I appreciate each detail which makes a visit of the Museum an unforgettable experience. Xavier: on the ground floor the various rooms welcome temporary events and exhibits thus improving the value of this magical place.
