Me and my husband are just over forty and live on a farm in north-east Iceland.
We have two children together which are 6 and 8 years old. During weekdays they are both in school until 15, both of them speak good English already.
We have around 460 sheep and horses, around 6 riding horses. We also have chickens, ducks, and 30-40 calves. We have a dog in the house, but he is kept in the laundry room and is not allowed inside the general house.
Both of us work alongside farming.

This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
They could learn some Icelandic, as it's good to pick up when always around the kids. You will be part of an icelandic family, and in your free time you can explore the area, hike or ride the horses.
It´d be good to get help with the kids and cleaning around the house! Some days both of us are very busy and need help with the kids.
We both tend to work a lot, both at home, on the farm and then in our respective jobs.
We have busier seasons, like lambing season (may) , slaughter season (sept-oct) and heying season (summer).
Icelandic: Fließend
English: Gute Kenntnisse
We preferably want upbeat and friendly people with us that would like to spend their time with us and maybe learn some Icelandic.
That's why we'd like the person being with us most of the day but could have a room for themselves in an apartment which is a couple meters away, owned by the family.
It's possible to ride horse a lot in freetime and to go on walks or hikes, depending the weather though. You can learn a lot about the Icelandic horse if you're interested since there are a lot of horses in the stable most of the time (but not in October and November, and sometimes in December, during this time the horses have a holiday).
It takes 10 minutes to drive to a very small village here and there you can go to a coffeehouse, post-office, bank, health-care and grocery store. Around 22km away is a swimming pool, which takes around 20-25 minutes to drive to.
We have a hot tub so we do not use the swimming pool a lot.
We live 130 km from Egilsstaðir, which is the next bigger town and ca. 250 km from Akureyri. You can fly from here to Akureyri.
In the winter, it can sometimes snow a lot so you can't leave the valley and flights can be cancelled because of weather as well.
