Who are we?
We are a low-fat, raw vegan*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ community and organic fruit farm on the Big Island of Hawai'i. Our fruit forest hosts nearly 100 varieties of tropical fruit trees. We are going toward full food sustainability, and though we have a long way to go, we are learning day by day how to best foster growth in this tropical environment.
Farm tasks activities include harvesting, propagation, land maintenance, construction, gardening and more. Most of what we do is physical in nature and we appreciate visitors who are fit and ready to get their hands dirty. However, no previous farming or physical labour experience is required.
The help we would like by our workaway visitors helps to keep our community farm beautiful and abundant. The fruits of the labour are shared amongst the visitors, we don't sell what is grown at markets or stores. We are not asking our workawayers to contribute any business activities in the farm.
How can you stay?
We offer several options for staying with us which allow for different focuses and varying lengths of stay. Our exchange program commitment is from 3-6 months, and involves around 4 hours help 5 days a week. The length of stay is somewhat flexible.
Our community is strictly drug and alcohol free, we welcome workawayers who are also living a clean and sober lifestyle. By ‘clean and sober’ we mean without consuming Tobacco, Alcohol, Marijuana (medical or recreational), Ayahuasca, Magic Mushrooms, Prescription Drugs (when not prescribed or misused), LSD, Speed, Heroin, Cocaine, Meth/Ice and any other mind altering substance. We ask that all of our visitors make a verbal agreement with us to remain ‘clean and sober’ throughout the duration of their stay with us.
Accommodations here are bali style huts, usually shared between several people. Depending on our availability we may be able to arrange options for couples wanting a private room. Though there is no running water or electricity in the huts, we do have access to both in our community areas. We have an outdoor community kitchen and an indoor community hang-out space. We are completely off-grid, so we try to be aware of our resources and careful to use them wisely.
We are located in the Puna district of the Big Island. We have ocean access, hiking and some beautiful places to explore within walking distance of the farm. Other tourist attractions in the area include Volcanoes National Park, black sand beaches and viewing of the recent lava flow. We are 10 miles from the nearest small town, Pahoa and about 30 miles from Hilo, one of the larger cities on the Island and the city most of our visitors fly into.
The heart is community. We aim to cultivate a supportive environment of authentic expression giving each of us a sense of belonging. We often meet outside of work hours to deepen our connections with one another and also to simply have fun venturing the island, planning movie nights and playing games. Together we aim to create, work, play, and live in harmony with each other and with nature.
*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️While we do not consume any animal products on the farm, not everyone visiting fully embraces a vegan ethic.*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️
Our visitors experience a wonderful sense of community as well as a connection to nature and an environment that promotes health. We have a strong community commitment and offer many tools for communication. Raw foods, clean air and tropical weather can support a renewed sense of wellness. We invite those coming here to embrace the unique lifestyle we offer, and possibly create a greater connection with self, others and nature. :-) Come join the family!
