We are a Brazilian couple with Afro-indigenous and European ancestors, born at Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. We had 11 years experience on transnational companies (chemical, aerospace and steel mill industries) working as engineers and contract managers. Therefore, an internal voice was calling for the environment care. So, we've decided to quit the corporate life.
Thus, we set travelling to seek for life alternatives. After 2 years abroad, sailing 9000 miles in the South Pacific, volunteering with traditional Polynesian and Melanesian communities, experiencing Permaculture, self-sufficient seeking projects and attending PDC (Permaculture Design Course), a full lifestyle transition was unavoidable.
During 4 years, we had been working as volunteers in 4 continents, mostly involved with environmental, sustainability, Permaculture and world heritage protection. We've got involved with organizations such as Greenpeace in NZ, Reef check International in Vanuatu, Bird life International in Fiji, 350.org in Pacific islands, UNESCO in China and Italy , Abrolhos Marine National Park in Brazil, Panya, Daruma and Good Earth Aquaculture Projects in Thailand.
We are currently building our home and office in a 200 people village at a pristine beach in Piracanga, Marau Penisula, South of Bahia state. Nowadays, Kéu is dedicated to acupressure massage and eco-friendly herbal products development, for self and home care. Francis is on wood works, food forestry, design, installation and maintenance of solar power systems. All these takes place in an eco-friendly and rustic installations surrounded by a lovely garden where we feel inspired everyday by many free wild beings that cross our path.

We are now looking for pro-active and hands-on workawayers to help us on electrical, hydraulic and wood works, household furniture making and social media. Specialists are more than welcome!
We normally asks 3 hours a day (weekends off), leaving workawayers to take care of their own food. We eat local vegetarian food available and there is no settle times for meals. So it is not easy to follow us.
In this environment, it takes one week to adapt. So we suggest one week experience before extending for a second week stay. Please check the availability with us, since we also rent the lodging.
Rustically built lodging (on top of our current office/atelier) independent to the main house. It's a small construction designed to fit the tropical humid climate of the area, i.e., few walls for continuous air circulation. The access to workawayer room is a bamboo ladder, which requires awareness while climb. Equipped with a double bed with mosquito net, shelves and a hammock integrated to tree tops. Private kitchen basically equipped with a two burners stove, outdoor shower and sink located at ground floor. There is no fridge just as most houses in the village. We provide salt, sugar, non-refined local oil and some spices. Shower, sink, toilet and laundry facility of the main house is available for workawayers.
We recommend you to bring linen, towel and biodegradable toiletries. Just in case, there are local eco-friendly toiletries available to sell. Torch (with batteries) is a must to move through the village by night!

TIME OFF ACTIVITIES & LOCAL SIGHTS
Our space is integrated to the surrounding forest. The prevailing atmosphere invites to self-knowledge, self-responsibility and the awakening of consciousness. Anapana and Vipassana meditation, pristine desert beach, extensive coconut farm, mangroove, river bath, beach, surfing, sunrise and moon contemplation at the mouth of Piracanga river and circular dances with the community, are examples of unique activities that happen here.
In this context, staying at our space is a rare opportunity to experience the purity of a place where you can breathe softly and listen to your own essence, away from mundane distractions, immersed in the forest and in the Universe that lives within you.
To promote this rare environment, we adhere to the collective agreements of Vila Piracanga, which prevents the use of consciousness-altering substances, whether legal or illegal, natural or synthetic (for example, alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, cumbia, ayuasca, etc.), except for ritualistic use hold by the collectivity.
We are at 7km walk from Itacaré by the beach where you can find gorgeous beaches, delicious snacks and restaurants. 2h drive away from Taipus de Fora which is nice for snorkelling and Barra Grande village.
The nearest town is Itacaré (~ an hour drive on dirt and paved roads) and the airport is Ilhéus. Since we are in a remote area, to arrive, we recommend the Inkiri transportation (4wd service) from Itacaré, which shall be booked in advance (at least a week). The access to the village can also be done by shared chartering with residents in a whatsapp group (with limited availability-ask us to sign you up).
The closest cash withdraw is at Itacaré.
INTERNET: There is 3G available in some spots at the village. There is possibility to buy daily or weekly internet package at Mandala Pizzeria, 100m from our space. We have internet with limited data for our use only.
TOILETRIES: To preserve the naturally pure drinking water of the local shallow water shed, the use of ANY non-biodegradable products in this environment is not allowed. If that is not observed, the water purifying bio-reactors will colapse and, within hours, water pumped from the well is likely to be contaminated. There are local eco-friendly toiletries available to sell.
WATER HEATING: We use solar heating, which means that the availability of hot water in the main house is intermittent, depending on the weather conditions (not working at the moment).
ELECTRICAL ENERGY: We use solar energy, so it is not allowed to charge equipment when there's no sunlight . Equipments with electrical resistance such as hair dryers are strictly prohibited.
FREE ANIMAL SUFFERING FOOD: We encourage workawayers to have a balanced vegetarian food during the stay.
WASTE: All non-compostable waste (such as plastic, disposables, etc) brought in by the guest are his/her sole responsibility and must be carried back.
CONSCIOUSNESS-ALTERING substances: As mentioned before, the collective agreements of the village prevent the use of substances that alters conscience.
