    ABOUT US

We are Zoë (1999) and Albert (1993), living just 10 km north of Copenhagen city center in a small cosy garden community near forests, fields and animals. Albert took over this plot in 2018, and has been renovating the place on/off since then. Zoë moved in in 2023. We are both of danish origin and were born and raised in Copenhagen. We both have daytime jobs. Zoë currently works in a restaurant as a hostess and Albert is in landscaping/construction. Zoë has lived in Spain to learn about agriculture and therapeutic horsemanship, which she plans on doing again. Albert is interested in art and psychology, and he used to work as a chef, but has recently shifted careers into construction, focusing on eco friendly construction. We both love permaculture, outdoor cooking and to enjoy a simple, calm lifestyle.

    OUR HOMESTEAD

Our homestead is just 480 m2, and consists of 36 m2 cabin, a 8 m2 bathroom building and a garden which is currently under renovation. Our plan is to live a simple lifestyle and to be partly self sufficient on this small piece of land. We do as much as we can to live sustainably, to increase biodiversity and improve our natural surroundings in order to create a healthy way of life in a suburban context.

    THE PROJECT

This project is very low budget, so we primarily use second hand or up-cycled materials to keep it cheap and sustainable. We love working with natural materials, such as cob, clay, straw and natural rocks and we love to experiment with wood treatments such as linseed oil, tar, beeswax etc. We have some different ongoing projects around the cabin and garden. These are small scale - sometimes experimental - DIY construction projects.

    Ongoing projects:
    -Finishing our outdoor bathroom building
-Finishing the cabin (interior and exterior)
-Finishing our driveway and paving around the garden
-Building a covered outdoor kitchen space
-Soil improvement by composting (our soil currently has low nutritional value because it was excavated when sewage was installed last year)

    Next projects:
    -Building a small guest house
-Making a proper (insulated) composting system

We will be working alongside with you to share our skills and knowledge. We can teach you what we know about woodworking, general construction, natural materials, wood treatments, cob building, gardening with permaculture, and danish food culture.

You will get the best of both worlds - living very close to Copenhagen while enjoying the green natural surroundings and calmness at our place.

We would love to invite you for a drink and enjoy an evening together, if not more! We will see how we connect :-)
Of course we will always be in reach for you on the telephone.

  • Arbeit

    Arbeit

We need someone who is into CONSTRUCTION and/or GARDENING.

Maybe you are trained/skilled/experienced in one of these fields - maybe you are not.
As long as you are open, honest and want to commit to the work at hand, and do things properly, we can work together.

You will be assisting us with different tasks 2-3 days per week. That means you will primarily be working alongside us.

    Tasks may include:
    -Building cob walls
-Paving (primarily natural stones, which are not very heavy)
    -Simple woodworking (building fences etc.)
-Planting plants in the garden (hedges, bushes)
-Garden maintenance (soil improvement, composting, digging, cutting hedges etc)
-Cleaning around the house (interior and exterior)
-Gathering second hand materials from around Copenhagen
-Preparing materials for construction (picking out nails from planks, sanding wood etc.)

We value flexibility and accountability and fairness is very important to us.

The tasks will vary depending on the weather, your skills, and what we agree on.

Let os know - before you arrive - what kind of tasks you are interested in, and we will try to plan the right tasks for you. We will agree on the terms of the work beforehand.

We will prepare a schedule in collaboration with you, when we have agreed on the time of accommodation.

Expect to work on average 15 hours per week.

Expect to live quite independently while you stay here.

You will live in a neighbouring cabin just three houses away from our homestead. You will have this cabin for yourself during your stay. Expect a simple cabin with the minimum necessities for sleeping and eating. It is in somewhat poor condition, but it is OK to stay in during the summer. You will have your own bedroom, living room and small kitchen with a fridge, tabletop, oven and a stove. If you prefer, you can stay in a tent instead.

There is a community bathroom with a toilet and shower just 100 meters from the homestead. Here you can also wash your clothes.

We would love to invite you to a few meals together, but because of the low amount of working hours, we think it is fair that food is not included in the accommodation. We are busy working people, so we think it is better to keep these things separate. That means - expect to pay for, cook and clean up after yourself when you eat. You will also be doing your own laundry, but we will pay for the use of washing machines and shower.

The garden community has a relaxed atmosphere, with people of all age groups and different backgrounds. Young couples, creative people and senior citizens live here. Is it similar to a summer house vacation area.

We can give you a lot of history and recommendations of what to see and experience in Copenhagen. Historical landmarks, good museums and where to see the works of the famous danish architects and designers. We have an internationally acclaimed food scene which is not to miss.

When you stay here, it is the obvious choice to ride a ride. Copenhagen is famous for our bicycling culture. There are a lot of good biking routes nearby, connecting you to the city, the forest and the sea - we can provide you with a bike while you stay here.

Local train station is 30 minutes away on foot, or 10 minutes away on bike (you can bring the bike into the trains). There is also a bus just outside on the street, which you can you to reach the city in just about 40 minutes.
