We are an equine welfare charity in the Brecon Beacons S.W.Wales, UK. During its time the Trust has rescued, rehabilitated and found new approved Guardian homes for 100's of horses and ponies having up to 30 residents cared for on the farm at any one time.
It was founded by the remarkable late Ginny Hajduckiwicz who sadly passed away at the young age of 38 leaving the trust as her legacy. Nestling against the Black Mountain in the beautiful Carmarthenshire countryside, the Trust is entirely dependant upon voluntary donations and fund raising activities. Anybody who gives to this charity can be assured that every penny possible goes towards the care of our horses and ponies. Our aim is to always restore our animals to full health, and through our Guardianship scheme, find them a loving purposeful loan home where they can live out the rest of their life in safety.
The Trust is located in a beautiful but secluded area of Wales, surrounded by beautiful views and an abundance of wildlife.
On the farm we care for up to 25 horses, ponies and donkeys at any one time, we have further 150+ in Guardian loan homes around the UK. As well as the care and protection of horses we run pilots of Equine facilitated learning and equine assisted sessions for learners and people with additional needs. We also work in collaboration with local colleges and residential homes to allow people with disabilities and additional learning needs to help and spend time with the horses.
We have 2 cats on site Billy and Archie and they love a nice warm lap to curl up on.
There is no public transport available directly to and from the farm. At certain times we may be able to pick up and drop off at Llangadog train station. The farm is located in an area of natural outstanding beauty, there are plenty of beautiful places to walk nearby to the farm, the red kite feeding station is less than 3 miles away, with Llyn y fan and Usk Resorvoir less than 6 miles away. There are local taxi services, but these can be expensive.
Those with their own transport could visit Pen y Fan, Carreg Cennen Castle, and some of the beautiful coastlines of Gower, Pembrokeshire and Cardigan.

You will experience life in the Welsh countryside, nestled in the foothills of the black mountains.
There will be opportunities to learn all aspects of horse care including how to spot and treat illnesses. Dependant on staff time and the workload, we can teach you science-based methods of training horses. You would also be welcome to watch and listen to the vet when they visit.
Depending on the time of year etc travellers will meet with other local volunteers and staff who are from different walks of life as well as from the local area.
There are local villages with pubs and local shops.
Registered charity
This host is a registered charity in the UK and is looking for help with their charity project. Guidance on charity worker sponsorship by a UK registered charity, can be found here.
Arbeit
Under the guidance and instruction of experienced members of staff we need help with the day to day care of the equines on site, mucking out, filling hay nets, feeding, giving medication, grooming and training them for new homes.
Helping us in our onsite charity tack shop to sell donated items to benefit the charity. During the summer months we will be attending local and county shows with a stand to promote our work. We will need help loading the van, setting up and manning the stands.
We hold fundraising events on site and will also need help with organising and running the events.
We also need help to fix fencing, field shelters, painting stables, buildings etc as well as general farm maintenance, strimming and tidying up and improving the rescue.
There is a woodland area, and we welcome anyone with knowledgeable in woodland management. We are putting together a project for the woodland area to be more accessible to members of the local community and for education. In this area we would like to improve the habitat to encourage local wildlfe. There is a broken wooden bridge crossing a stream that we need help rebuilding.

This is a very rural location and there is no public transport available directly from the farm, but it can sometimes be arranged with members of staff to give a lift into the village of Llangadog where there is a train station.
It's important to note that you will likely be alone in the evenings when staff finish for the day.

My first workaway. Loved it!
Had planned 2 weeks, stayed over 3 - says it all really. Nice team, lovely animals, cozy accommodation, great location in beautiful surroundings. Work started at 8:30. Nothing nicer than being greeted by the animals upon entering the barn. My fav part was mucking out stables in the morning. There is something very… read more satisfying about this simple task of making beds for the ponies/horses/donkeys. Rest of the time was allocated to whatever is needed, e.g. making up hay nets, tidying up tack shop, moving animals, grooming animals, collecting acorns, cleaning food buckets, interacting with the amazing volunteers from places for people with learning difficulties, playing with the dogs, cuddling the cats, praising the cats for catching mice (and watch them gobble them up afterwards urgh), keeping the farm house tidy and clean, brainstorming improvements, chatting and laughing with the team. I also did the late feed at 8pm, often accompanied by Archie, resident mouse hunter.
I was lucky enough to arrive in time to help with an open day. Such fun and so great to see the local support kicking in for this amazing place. You love unicorns? Well, they have two ;o) You love Shetland Ponies? They have 4 cute munchkins. We even hosted a vintage tea party with Shetties for a 21y old birthday girl. I hope this will become a permanent thing as it was fun to supervise and watch the guests enjoy themselves.
The location is remote, so having your own transport would be good. But the team would def drop you off at nearby bus or train station. You can arrange for food to be delivered. I had a car and did great trips: Tenby, St Davids, Cardigan Bay, a Roman goldmine, several castles, the biggest reservoir and dam in Europe, over the Black Mountain (what a view), and to many of the cute and colourful nearby towns.
I had a hard time leaving and hope to be back next year.
Team & animals, I miss you all! Big hugs and sunny greetings, Mo
Monika has been fabulous! She arrived the day before a busy fundraising open day and hit the ground running. Monika is trustworthy, reliable and helpful. My stay there was an amazing experience. I was warmly greeted when I arrived.
Rhian, Dionne, Shannon and Belinda. you are all 'Angels' in my eyes. Your love, kindness and dedication to these beautiful creatures go way and beyond. There is nothing you wouldn't do to help them. Bless you all ❤️❤️❤️
I stayed in the cottage with Helen, another… read more Workaway volunteer who showed me the ropes. she was a great teacher and had the patience of a saint as I kept trying to put head collars on inside out or upside down . lol. Good luck on your training with Eva.🥰🥰🥰
I fell in love with all the ponies, horses, donkeys and defo Billie and Archie (the 2 resident cats) who loved a cuddle on the sofa in the evenings.
Apart from the normal horsey help as in mucking out, filling Haynes etc. I know they would be appreciative of other types of work as in helping to fix fences, painting fencing, cutting up trees that have fallen. Handyman or handygirl help. there's always something to do! It frees up these dedicated people to do what they do best!!!!
I hope that you get all the help you need and deserve.
I love you all and can't wait to visit you soon xxxxxxxxx

Vom Workawayer (Ella & Muriel) für Host
This was our first Workaway experience and we‘ve spent 3 weeks with the team here. We would definitely recommend this host to you, if you like being in the nature and around ponies. And on top of that you get the chance to meet very kind and considerate people, who always make sure that you have enough of everything you need. They always checked… read more in on us and really made an effort to get to know us and we felt very welcomed. Moreover, our main task was to feed the two lovely orphan foals Juno and Bunny and they asked us to check in on some ponies sometimes. We also did some poo picking, catching and grooming ponies, general help in the barn like mucking out or preparing hay nets and helping cleaning some tack. While doing that, they always made sure that we were okay with the task and insured us that we always could have a break if we’d like to. It was no problem to take a day off and visit some places like Tenby, Hay-on-Wye or Llyn y Fan Fach.
If you consider staying here, you should know some points: We were‘nt aware of the fact that we would stay at the house and the farm alone, but they are looking for someone to live there permanently so this situation could change. We got used to this after a few days and there was always someone reachable via phone. Luckily, we came with our own car because the farm is very rural and there is, as far as we know, no public transport nearby and the next attraction to explore is at least 30 min to an hour by car away. During the working times we had lovely chats and lots of interaction with the people here but since they don’t live at the house, after work or at your days off, you‘ll probably have to explore things on your own.
So to sum up, this is a great place to spend a beautiful time at with lovely animals and wonderful people. Especially when you are interested in hiking and exploring the nature, this destination is the perfect place for you.
Thank you so much Dionne, Rhian, Shannon, Belinda and Ellie for having us and making our stay unforgettable!
