    Beschreibung

We live and work as a family on a traditional gaucho estancia in Tacuarembó, northern Uruguay. Our home, our cattle and the projects we’re working on to improve the place are all here.

You’re welcome to stay with us for a while, share everyday life in the countryside and lend a hand with activities around the estancia. We provide accommodation and meals during your stay.

My partner and I manage the estancia ourselves, and we do not employ any paid staff. Workawayers would help alongside me and my family, with guidance and support, and would not be expected to carry out tasks on their own.

We live in a fairly remote place, within a culture deeply connected to horses, cattle, and a way of life that still maintains rhythms and customs difficult to find in the urban world. Here, horses aren't a recreational activity: they're part of daily life. Distances are felt differently; the countryside has its own rhythms, and many things are still learned by observing, accompanying, and simply being present. We don't want to present a picturesque version of the countryside or create a tourist experience. The idea is to share, for a few days, a way of life that already exists here, just as it is. And at the same time, welcoming people from other places does the opposite: it brings stories, ways of thinking, food, music, and experiences that are usually far removed from this rural setting. That exchange is what interests us most.

  • Arbeit

    Arbeit

The farm revolves mainly around cows, sheep, and horses, and each day ends up being a little different from the last. Some tasks are repetitive, while others simply arise: moving animals, checking a fence, tidying something up, maintaining a space, or dealing with one of those little things that always come up on the farm. We're also restoring an old house that was practically unused for a long time. We're doing it little by little, without rushing. More than finishing a building, we're interested in making it a place that's inhabited again and, in time, allowing people who would never normally come here to pass through the farm. We don't expect anyone who comes to know how to work with animals, build, or do any particular task. We're doing these things every day, and the idea is that whoever is here can naturally join in on whatever is happening at that moment.

    Unterkunft

There are two bedrooms with beds and linens for guests. The bathroom is private except for the shared shower. The kitchen is small, but the idea isn't for everyone to live separately. We prefer to share meals and organize things simply based on what's available and what each person feels like cooking. In general, accommodation is part of the shared experience: sharing the house, meals, and a bit of daily life while you're here.
