House renovation, help us with our non profit project in Idrija, Slovenia

  Beschreibung

  This is a non-profit, non-governmental organization based in Idrija, Slovenia, where the world's second-largest mercury mine was once located. Today, the city is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List for its rich mining heritage.
  
  Our's mission is to preserve and develop cultural heritage, especially in peripheral and rural areas. this place brings elements of (social) entrepreneurship, youth work, marketing, architecture, and community building into the field of heritage with innovative and award-winning approaches, thus contributing not only to preservation, but also to social and economic development based on heritage.
  
  This place includes and supports heritage enthusiasts to bring cultural heritage closer to young people and cultural tourists, thus encouraging further development of peripheral and rural areas.
  
  Two projects are currently most in need of help:
  1. House - In 2021, we have acquired a 200-year old traditional miners house that has been abandoned for 20 years. Since then we are slowly improving its condition, by cleaning, maintaining and running workshops, trainings and cultural events at the house. More about the house: ask us for the link
  
  2. A Festival - On August 24th, we are organising a gastronomy festival for 4000 people

  Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten

  You will work with specific local cultural heritage of this UNESCO World Heritage site - you will get to explore Miners Houses and the gastronomy of this town.
  
  You will work and meet enthusiats in our team, who enjoy working with cultural heritage in novel ways.

  Arbeit

  Regarding work at the House: We are looking for a "handy-man" or "handy-woman", a person that will take care of the house and its surrounding and through DIY projects slowly improve its condition. We have in mind mowing the lawn and clearing the bushes next to it, taking care of the small garden, painting wooden elements (doors, furniture), cleaning the attic ...
  
  Regarding work with festival: We ae looking for a person that is skilled with organising gastronomic events. You would be accompanying us and help in organisation of the festival (venue set up, working with vendors, decorating, managing the team...). A feeling for aesthetics is a bonus :)

  We will arrange a room in Hostel (run by our friend organisation). The most brave ones might want to try sleeping in the House and showering in the hostel.

  Idrija is a small town (6000 people), yet culturally very rich. Only 1 hour bus ride from Ljubljana, you can access main points of interest in Slovenia,
  
  In vicinity of Idrija are several natural swimming spots by the Idrijca river, while several events are happening on summer evenings.
