  Hi again!
  After taking a break from Workaway for several years due to lack of energy, we're back and ready to welcome you to our home!
  
  We’ve been living here for 7 years, above old stone quarries, in temporary structures such as yurts and trailers, as well as permanent buildings. We have over 600 square meters of buildings dating back to 1700 that need renovating, as well as 20 hectares of farmland.
  
  Our aim is to develop a cooperative living community within these buildings (with private spaces for everyone, as well as shared living areas), as well as a mixed-crop farm (vegetable gardening, livestock, grains, an orchard, etc.) to move towards food self-sufficiency (but not self-reliance!) in a joyful and friendly spirit.
  So, we're looking for farmers to settle down with!
  
  This collective adventure began with Yannis and Emilian, who have been friends since studying international solidarity together and launched an organic mushroom production operation in the underground quarries in late 2019. With over 30 km of tunnels dug in 1815 for stone extraction and later for button mushroom production, the location is now classified as a Natura 2000 protected site for bat conservation and is a true showcase of the history of our Entre-deux-mers region, located between the Garonne and the Dordogne rivers.
  
  Yannis has been managing mushroom and chicory production since 2024 (from September through June) (though he no longer lives on the farm) and Emilian has been overseeing a fully free-range pig farm and diversifying the farm’s operations since 2026, following the removal of the entire vineyard.
  
  Emilian’s partner, Diane, an avid traveller, moved to the farm in 2023 after participating in a scientific expedition in which she and 20 other volunteers experienced various types of extreme climate to study human resilience in changing living conditions. Having just finished renovating a 30-square-metre barn to serve as her home, she now works in social services off the farm.
  
  Together with friends and neighbours, we have also created the association to revitalise our corner of the countryside. We organise a farmers' market every first Saturday of the month (except in summer), complete with cultural activities. In addition, we hold two open-air dance parties in July and August, complete with concerts, as well as two festivals, one at the end of May (up to 500 people) called “Carrières en Solidaires”, and one at the end of August called “Le Charron’s Stone Festival”.

  Salut de nouveau,
  Après une pause Workaway de plusieurs années, faute d'énergie, nous voici de retour pour vous recevoir chez nous ;)
  
  Nous sommes installés depuis 7ans au dessus d'anciennes carrières de pierres,en habitat léger (yourte, caravane) et habitat en dur. Nous avons plus de 600m2 de bâtiments, datant de 1700, à rénover (plutôt en mauvais état), ainsi que 20ha hectares de terres agricoles.
  Nous souhaitons développer un habitant coopératif (des espaces privés pour chacun mais également des espaces de vie à partager) dans ces bâtiments ainsi qu'une ferme polyculturale (maraichage, élevage, céréales, verger,etc) pour aller vers une autonomie (et pas une autarcie!) alimentaire dans un esprit joyeux et convivial :)
  
  L'aventure collective a commencé avec Yannis et Emilian, potes depuis des années après avoir fait des études dans la solidarité internationale ensemble, qui ont lancé fin 2019 une activité de production de champignons biologiques dans les carrières souterraines! Avec plus de 30km de galeries creusées en 1815 pour l'extraction de pierre, puis pour la production de Champignon de Paris et enfin classé maintenant en site protégé Natura2000 pour la sauvegarde de chauve-souris, le lieu est une véritable vitrine de l'histoire de notre territoire : l'Entre-Deux-Mers (puisque situé entre deux fleuves : la Garonne et la Dordogne).
  
  Depuis 2024 Yannis gère la production de champignons (de SEPTEMBRE jusqu'en JUIN) mais ne vit plus sur place et Emilian s'occupe depuis 2026 d'un atelier porc plein air intégral et de la diversification sur la ferme après l'arrachage de la totalité du vignoble.
  
  Diane, la compagne d'Emilian, voyageuse invétérée, s'est installée sur le lieu en 2023 après avoir participé à une expédition scientifique où elle s'est confrontée avec 20 autres volontaires, à plusieurs types de climats extrêmes pour comprendre les aptitudes humaines face au changement de nos conditions de vie. Elle vient de finir de rénover une grange de 30m2 pour en faire son lieu de vie et travaille maintenant dans le social, hors de la ferme.
  
  Nous avons également crée l'association, avec des ami.es et voisin.es pour dynamiser notre coin de campagne : nous organisons un marché de producteurs tous les 1ers samedi de chaque mois (hors été) avec animation culturelle, 2 guinguettes estivales (juillet + aout) avec concerts et 2 festivals (jusqu'à 500 personnes) fin mai "Carrières en Solidaires" et fin août "Le Charron's Stone Festival"

  Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten

  The hamlet where the farm is located is called “Le Charron,” named after the ancestors who settled there around 1500 and were skilled in woodworking and metalworking. The farm’s name, “Le Chêne et la Charrette,” a tribute to its forebears, is based on a legend (heavily inspired by a myth from the Vanuatu archipelago) that perfectly captures our spirit and goes like this:
  
  "Every person is torn between two needs:
  
  The need for the cart, which represents the journey, the breaking away from oneself,
  
  And the need for the oak tree, which represents identity, being rooted.
  
  It is said that humans constantly wander between these needs,
  
  Yielding now to one, now to the other,
  
  Until the day they discover
  
  That it is with the oak tree that we build the cart."

  First of all, we have travelled all around the world and are accustomed to sharing our daily lives with people from all cultural backgrounds. We are eager to learn new things and meet new people every day.

  c’est-à-dire du voyage, de l’arrachement à soi-même, et le besoin de l’Arbre,

  Nous avons beaucoup voyagé dans le monde et nous avons l'habitude de partager notre quotidien avec des personnes de tous horizons. Nous avons soif d'apprendre de nouvelles choses chaque jour et de faire de nouvelles rencontres.
  Avec nous, vous participerez aux premières étapes de la création d'un lieu collectif.

  We are particularly keen to hear from people with experience who can share their skills to help develop our community.
  
  We are looking for independent and emotionally mature individuals who can contribute their goodwill and energy to our daily lives (and vice versa on our part).
  
  As we often say, ideas are not in short supply here, so for spring/summer 2026:
  - helping to settle the pigs in the forest
  - cleaning the barns
  - Helping to organise the association's activities, such as monthly markets and festivals (late May and late August).
  - Repairs, renovations and decorating the various living spaces (tree house, teepee, yurt, house, etc.).
  - Outdoor maintenance (orchard, vine grafting, truffle farm, garden, etc.).
  
  We are, naturally, willing to adapt the work to be carried out and are always open to suggestions from volunteers.

  Comme on se dit souvent, ici ça n'est pas les idées qui manquent, alors pour le printemps/été 2026 :
  -Aide à l'installation des porcs dans la forêt
  -Nettoyage des granges
  -Aide à l'organisation des activités de l'association : marchés mensuels et festivals (fin mai/fin aout)
  -Réparation/travaux sur les différents logements (cabane perchée, tipi, yourte,maison,etc)
  -Entretien extérieur (verger, surgreffage de vigne,truffière,jardin,etc)
  
  Évidemment nous sommes flexibles sur le travail à faire et ouverts aux idées des volontaires

  Unterkunft

  Comfort remains basic. Two bedrooms are available in the main stone house and you will be sharing kitchen and bathroom with others guests.
  With a little work, you can stay in the treehouse, the trailer, or the teepee :)
  Regarding toilets we only use ecological toilets (dry toilets)
  You can also set a tent in the garden or in one of the barn (under a roof).
  Furnished trucks, caravans and other mobile residence are also welcome :)

  We are also counting on you for the organization and community life (preparation of meals, cleaning of common areas, dishes, in short all the fun stuff;))
  Meals are generally taken together at noon and at a free time in the evening, according to each person's wishes.
  If you enjoy cooking, your application has a big advantage ;)
  We focus on work during the week but when the weekend arrives, we take full advantage of the famous french "apéro and barbecue" with our local friends :)
  
  
  Étant récemment installé sur le lieu, le confort reste sommaire! Nous vous laissons à disposition une chambre et vous partagerez avec nous la cuisine et la salle de bains.
  Vous avez aussi la possibilité d'être en tente dans le jardin ou sous une grange (en cours d'aménagement).
  Les camions aménagés, caravanes et autres habitants roulants sont les bienvenus :)
  
  On compte également sur vous pour l'organisation et la vie en collectivité (préparation des repas, ménage des parties communes, vaisselle, bref tout les trucs rigolos ;) )
  
  Les repas sont en général pris ensemble le midi et à horaire libre le soir, selon l'envie de chacun.
  On se concentre sur le travail la semaine mais quand arrive le weekend, on profite à fond des apéros et barbecue avec les amis du coin :)

  We are based in the small and picturesque village of Lugasson, 200 inhabitants, 50km east of Bordeaux, and 20km from Saint-Emilion (nearest train station).
  During your time off, you can explore our magnificent region: bikes are available for rides following an old railroad track refurbished into a cycle track, climbing (100 routes from 4b to 7c on a 20m natural cliff), swimming in a lake, and many other things :)
  We can also drop you off at the nearest station to reach Bordeaux or the Atlantic Ocean.

  Nous sommes basé dans le petit et pittoresque village de Lugasson, 200 habitants, à 50km à l'est de Bordeaux et à 20km de Saint-Emilion (gare la plus proche).
  Lors des moments de repos, vous pourrez découvrir notre magnifique région : des vélos sont disponibles pour des ballades autour d'une ancienne voie ferrée transformé en piste cyclable, escalade (100 voies de 4b à 7c sur une falaise de 20m), baignade dans un lac, et pleins d'autres choses :)
  Nous pouvons également vous déposer à la gare la plus proche pour rejoindre Bordeaux ou l'océan.
