Susan and Walter, owners of this wonderful sacred homestead, have been living here for the past 12 years. Walter has been a biodynamic farmer for over 40 years.
Walter and Ecuadorian partner (Jose Calva) are using permaculture, biodynamic and traditional Ecuadorian techniques to make this land thrive with fruits, vegetables and herbs. This land has been declared sacred by the indigenous.
In 2018 the Kogi indigenous invited us to build a traditional spirit house to connect our valley with their ancestral lands in Columbia. This house is now completed and often volunteers enjoy tending the fire that never goes out.

Volunteers and interns will have the benefit to learn about permaculture, biodynamics and the traditional Ecuadorian methods of farming. They will also have the possibility to learn Spanish when working with Jose. A big part of a volunteers experience will be living in community and being part of a team.
We are looking for "conscious" individuals who love to farm and garden. We welcome up to six volunteers at a time and who should have the stamina to do physical tasks. Most of the time will be spent on the land but we share food preparation.
We try to grow all our own food which includes fruits and veggies and animal products such as milk, cheese eggs and honey. Walter has been a Biodynamic farmer for forty years on four continents and Jose our Ecuadorian partner brings local knowledge and skills to the farm
Volunteers help with all aspects of running the farm and work will include gardening, pasture management and animal care such as milking and making cheese. Sometimes we sell our surplus produce at the local organic market.
During the day we share the main community house, we all help prepare the meals and enjoy community together.
We ask 5 hours/day and five days per week, and willingness to fill in with whatever tasks are needed.

We have a beautiful community house where we share meals and time together. For sleeping we provide more rustic accommodation such as an adobe cabin and 2 big army style tents set on platforms.
On the week end, volunteers/interns will have the choice to go to Vilcabamba with Susan and Walter but they will need to find their own accommodation once in town. Susan and Walter will simply provide the ride there and back.
The volunteers/interns also have the choice to come back earlier to the property by taking the bus and walking 30 minutes to the property from the closest village where the bus stops. Around the property there are many things to do and see.
You can go and climb our mountain that has breathtaking views. There are 2 rivers you can choose to take a dip in and some nearby waterfalls.
