=== Note: although we have been hosting on WorkAway and other sites for years, recently lost access to an old account so we are familiar with hosting despite no feedback! ===
Our Family has had this house since it was built in 1960 originally as a holiday home. Set on a what was once a barren hillside of just peat and heather, now repopulated with 100+ indigenous trees, a few ponds too. The garden was a project carefully overseen by your host's mother during her lifetime. As for the location, it is absolutely jaw-droppingly stunning; A timber house built on a hill overlooking the Sea across to The Isle of Skye, also looks down the Sound of Sleat to Ardnamurchan Point and The Small Isles.

Just a stone's throw from the village of Glenelg on a quiet path. In Glenelg itself you'll find the cosiest pub in the West Coast of Scotland (5 mins stroll), a local community cafe (serving real espresso, top notch home-baking) and a handy wee local shop. We're away from the main tourist trail; Inverness to the Skye bridge. Glenelg has been described as 'more of an island' than Skye and attracts a very lovely crowd all year round, who return year-after-year.

Your host Christopher has been making guests feel at home in the Highlands for 40 years; as hotelier, inn keeper and for the last decade via WorkAway and other websites has been introducing people from far-and-wide to the village of Glenelg. Remarkably one or two have remained here, others have become lifelong friends.

Would prefer people to be late 20's or older, have good English and to stay for a minimum, if possible, of two weeks. We have a number of projects you can read about below, a strong self-motivated personality would be beneficial here. Handy folk, ready to follow instruction but also keen to 'get to it' of their own accord are most welcome.

The House is situated in a large Highland Garden of 7 acres. Glenelg is a beautiful area steeped in history from the Brochs (built about 70 BC), Ian Fleming's James Bond, Gavin Maxwell's Ring of Bright Water at Camusfearna not to mention the world's oldest car ferry, the Skye Ferry. We also have a community swimming group who, even now as I write this in January, regularly meet to swim in the looking across to the Isle of Skye!

Chris has a remarkable passion for this place, having spent a life living and working in the community, your host will delight in introducing you to all of the many characters of Glenelg. Glenelg hosts a few local organic farms, a brewery, lots of sheep, natural wildlife too... and there's always an adventure to be had at sea in good weather! You might get the chance to meet dolphins, minke whales, basking sharks. Then there's Otters, seals and victor the local sea eagle! Many incredible hiking paths make there way through Glenelg and there's a remote bothy to be explored, should you wish to sleep under the stars one night.

We are always looking for workawayers to help in the garden, with painting, general cleaning, wood chopping etc.

Specific projects on the agenda this year– a front porch rebuild, a fencing project (200m or so), taking part in a removal of rhododendrons (an invasive scourge on our landscape), we may also require some help with bringing the compost up to scratch and some fresh eyes will dictate the rest! Should you have specific knowledge of these areas, we'd love to hear from you now.

Another project your host is keen to find help with involves online marketing and SEO skills. We run (separate from the home) a unique self-catering property in the Scottish Highlands but attract limited interest from outside the UK. Should you have the background to secure worldwide bookings please do get in contact. Come and stay, you'll see for yourself what a wonderful place this is.

We can offer either a caravan or individual (single) rooms. The caravan is set just out of the garden and features a wood-burning stove and a double bed. It is incredibly cosy! The wee single rooms are in the house, depending on whether the family is visiting either option might be offered up during your stay. We have two cats who come and go as they will.

Workawayers must be able to enjoy a glass of wine and eat lovely seafood which is plentiful! Workawayers are often invited out for an adventure at sea; BBQ's on remote gorgeous West Coast beaches. A unique experience!

Our nearest train station is Kyle of Lochalsh. A bus stop at Shiel Bridge links Glasgow, Fort William and Inverness. There is a bit of travel from either to Glenelg and we can help plan your arrival.

The community runs a taxi service which may be available but must be pre-arranged to take visitors from Kyle or the bus stop. Should you wish to drive or cycle to us, a most rewarding adventure awaits you! A stunning final accent over the Mam Ratagan Pass will delight anyone.
