We’re a British family of four - Tom, Lucy, Betty (4) and Mila (1) who have moved from England to the Spanish Pyrenees in search of a more tranquil life surrounded by nature, where we can make the most of life together while we turn a run-down farmhouse into our dream home and try to become as self-sufficient as possible.

We recently gave up city life in England for rural life in Spain, so you could learn from us the differences in the two and what it's like to adjust to such a big change. We are still getting used to it ourselves! Doing a Workaway like this was actually what helped us decide to take the leap and make this life-change for ourselves.

There is so much to do around us! Directly from our door step you can do incredible hikes and mountain biking routes. There's lots of climbing and a Via Ferrata, plus wild swimming in rivers and lakes. We're located near three different national parks that boast stunning peaks with incredible views. If you come between Nov - April, you can ski just an hour away from here.

We live in Valle de La Fueva - an area rich in outdoor pursuits, history, culture and so much more. There is roman heritage here dating back to the early 11th century, and there's a hiking/ biking route you can do that takes in some beautiful buildings from this period. The valley is home to a collection of characterful little villages to explore, each with their own unique feel and each with at least one beautiful church!
There's lots of local festivals that can be really fun to be a part of and get a taste for local life and the history that helped shape it. It is a farming valley, so there's lots of animals to enjoy as well as beautiful local produce that we can help you source.

The nearby town of Aínsa is a medieval town awarded "Uno de los pueblos más bonitos en España" - one of Spain's most beautiful towns. It's old town is perched atop a hill and is absolutely stunning. It's a tourism hub so there's often lots going on there. You can climb the bell tower to take in 360 degree views of the region. There's a festival that goes on most of the summer so there's often music, stalls, and lots more to enjoy.

The valley is home to beautiful birds of prey including Pyrenean vultures and eagles - there's an eco museum nearby where you can learn all about them and other local fauna.
There's also tons of outdoor adventure activities nearby such as canyoning, paragliding, kayaking and more. The town of Aínsa (17 mins away by car) is the base for a lot of these things, as well as having everything you may need in terms of shops / bars/ restaurants, tourism centre and museums.

There is a huge variety or things that can be done here, depending on your interests and skills! Tom is a builder and we are doing the renovation work ourselves, so if you're interested in picking up any practical skills there's not much Tom couldn't show you! If you love being outside, we have land where we are preparing to grow food, house chickens and potentially pigs in future. If you love small children, we've got two of those that would love to hang out with you! If you're an ideas person, we'd love to hear what you think about our space and how we could make it amazing - we're right at the start of our journey here. If you're arty, we have some perfect spaces to paint murals and let out your creativity! We want to fill our space with interesting people who we can learn from, and who can learn from us - we hope that no matter what your interests you'd find it really fulfilling spending time here.

Lucy is an intermediate Spanish speaker, Tom is beginner. Our girls are soaking it up but don’t speak yet! We’d love to improve our Spanish and can obviously offer English in return.

We currently live in a caravan on site, but we will be setting up rooms in the house that will be clean and comfortable, with access to a fully-functioning bathroom and kitchen. The house is very old and run down but we are sprucing up part of it just for volunteers so that you will have your own space. We'll upload photos of these rooms as soon as they're ready. Alternatively you are welcome to bring your own campervan, or in the summer I'm sure we could offer a tent including blow up mattresses / bedding. We also have a travel cot and child’s mattress if you're travelling as a family.
For days that you’re doing tasks with us we’ll make sure you have 3 meals a day, normally cereal/toast/fruit for breakfast, sandwiches at lunch time and a hot meal for dinner.

There isn't tons of public transport around but there are a couple of local taxis and buses. We're happy to take you places if you need. A 40-minute drive will take you to Barbastro, our nearest big town where transport links open up to cities such as Lleida, Huesca, Zaragoza and Barcelona.

The village where our children go to school (Tierrantona - you can walk to it in 30 mins / 10 mins cycle / five mins in the car) has a little shop and 2 bar/restaurants, as well as municipal swimming pool, BBQ area, playground and tennis courts. And our village is tiny, just a collection of houses but it has a little playground and BBQ area as well, plus the most incredible views!

Happy to accept digital nomads however we have limited internet connection and wouldn’t be able to offer WiFi connection for the whole time at the moment.

Campervans can be parked on the field and will have access to water. We can’t offer any constant plug in power at the moment but can help you charge up. You can dispose of waste here too. There’s a great proper camper van stop down the road with all the proper facilities - you could combine your visit to us with a visit to them too.

Hier sind Haustiere in der Regel willkommen

Happy to accept any pets that are super friendly and won’t be bothered by noisy, excitable small children! Our kids absolutely love animals but we obviously want to keep them safe. The property isn’t fenced so they’d need to be happy just staying near you or being tied up if they’re likely to wander (the road isn’t busy though).
