Hey :) we are Baru and Kathi. Young, married queer couple. Living our best live and want to share it with people. Last year we bought our dream property and started to live here in March 2023. Baru started to study so next 3 years we are only going to accept volunteers in May and July :)
We have done a lot of workaway ourselves ( we actually met at one amazing project and fell in love) that's why we have the perspective from both sides. ( hosts and volunteers)
As volunteers we seen the best and the worst projects and that's why we are trying to create the perfect experience, what we would love to experience as volunteers.
That means that if you can stay with us, you will be treated as a family members :)
Our dream is to renovate the ruin and make a dream house out of it and create veggie garden what can feed us majority of the year.
Right now we are living in a bell tent, until we can move to the house.
We are looking for a people who will help us to create the most beautiful place. But the same important is for us to have a great time together. To share stories, wine, play cards, guitar. And share this beautiful life what we have here, with you.

And if you are looking to live the same lifestyle, or even buy a land, we might be able to help you as well ☺

:::: Please note that it is remote here. But it is possible to walk to the mini supermarket in 25-30 minutes. ::::
Now about us:
Hello! We are Baru and Kathi, a married couple from the Czech Republic and Germany.. and of course Kiri our little dog and the nicest soul. :)
We traveled for about 4 years in our self-converted campervan and lived already somewhere else off-grid before we developed the wish to settle down on our own somewhere (at least a bit :) )
It was our dream to live somewhere in beautiful nature, buy our own piece of land, and create our own little paradise... So come and help us to create it.
Now we found that perfect place in Central Portugal. ( cca 12km from Castelo Branco)
From an experience, our preferred time to host volunteers is 2-3 weeks, but with an agreed TEST TIME for both sides to see if we like each other. As we are not only looking for some people who will help us but as well we want to have a nice time with you and share a slow and happy life here with you.
We also like to drink homemade Portuguese red wine, visit friends, or have visits, play volleyball on our own volleyball field ( or badminton), play cards, guitar, and darts in the evenings :)
We are able to accommodate people with their own campervan as well. ( just probably not the biggest trucks as the roads here are quite narrow :) - but we had no problem with VW LT )
HELP:
At the moment we have various different tasks that we need help with:
- land clearing
- building on a budget (with found woods etc... )
- building shower and toilet house
- building outdoor kitchen
- and again ... clearing the land ( the biggest task at the moment) .
- cooking from what we have at home and cleaning of the kitchen
FOOD:

We love to eat meals together and talk :
You are very welcome to come and help, no matter if you are vegan or not. (Of course, you would have to be open to veganism - or even better want to go vegan yourself :D) We would appreciate in case you bring your own food that it is only vegan food -

We can't promise if and what exactly you will learn here, I guess it depends on who you are and what you already know.. and also what we will do during your stay :)
But ... you will definitely get an insight into how to live off the grid and close to nature.
If you are interested in this topic you definitely can get a lot of information about solar, water and other.
If you do not know how about a vegan diet, you definitely can learn a lot here as well :D
Here is like very traditional Portuguese life around ( farming, olive picking, traditional events, etc - but this all depends on the season and time of the year :) -

Unterkunft
We have a tent and a real mattress and a sleeping bag/blanket. We have space for a campervan too.
We have drinking water
We have only an outdoor portable shower, but the property is big enough to get privacy.
At the moment we have a very basic compost toilet and for the shower we use portable shower head and our water from the well, What we warm up in the pot if necessary) -

We have WiFi.
If you have a dog, we have to talk about whether it's possible because of our dog and our neighbor's animals, we would have to try how it works :) -

If you have a perfectly behaved unproblematic and kind animal, we can try it and see if it works. We don't like to have here a chaos, bird hunting, or any conflicts with our own animals
