(**This is a long profile, we know. Nonetheless, it will be good that you read the whole thing to have an accurate understanding of what to expect.**)

Hey everybody! Our names are David, Cristina, Julia (6), and Sofia (~4) - an American/Spanish family of 4 living just outside Seville, Spain in a beautiful neighborhood and a lovely house. David and Cristina met 10 years ago through Workaway, and since then we've hosted dozens of Workawayers ourselves in both Seville and the Costa del Sol. We are longtime members of Workaway and other communities (Couchsurfing, HomeExchange, Airbnb), and love sharing our lives and our culture with people from around the world. We've always been self-employed, previously building up two vacation rental management companies. Having sold both over the past few years, we've made some serious changes in our family life, which prompted the move back up to Seville. We're very active and involved parents, and we welcome friends and travelers (for meals, activities, games, etc) on a fairly regular basis.

Our home is located in a quiet neighborhood in a suburb of Seville called San Juan de Aznalfarache. There are bars, shops, and parks around us, and to get into Seville there's a metro stop 2km from the house that will drop you right in the historic center in 4 stops. Given that we have both worked in hospitality for a very long time, we are happy to give you the best recommendations to enjoy the city while you're here.

Work-wise, in our home we operate an ESL academy where we teach groups of children and adults in the afternoons, but for 2023 we really want to expand into some new (to us) online income streams, and that is what we are welcoming Workawayers for this year. What we'll be exploring includes content creation, Youtube & TikTok, Print-on-demand, and Amazon FBA. Given that we've made a good living through online services for the last 10 years, we do feel capable of heading into these projects, but given that they're still relatively new ideas for us, we're hoping that Workawayers will be able to help us fill some key gaps.

As a result, skills in web design, photography, videography, video editing, content creation, product research, product design, graphic design, illustration, AI-familiarity, etc are the principal things we're looking for. Secondary skills would be DIY-related, ESL teaching, and childcare, but just please note that Workawayers with the principal skills will receive priority.

When writing to us, it's incredibly important that you specify your availability and experience, as we typically receive a LOT of inquiries and want to be sure we can appropriately answer everyone. We speak English and Spanish (and other foreign languages are totally welcome!), and fluency in at least one of these languages will be necessary to Workaway with us.

Staying with us will involve experiencing a genuine mix of Spanish and American influences, as we don't wholly fit into either mold. We know the city and the region well, and can recommend anything you might be looking to do, whether that's the best of the museums, Flamenco dance classes, tapas, Spanish history, art, language schools, and more.

(As a check to confirm you've read our profile, please include "Hello Hays Family" in your message subject)

Furthermore, if you're on your own path of developing online income streams, this will be an opportunity to learn and expand those resources together, as we mutually benefit from shared experiences, mistakes, and growth opportunities. We don't expect you to be an expert in this by any means, BUT you bringing something to the table will ensure that we have a mutually-beneficial learning environment while we explore these things. (No offense and no judgement to you, but if you don't have any of the particular skills we're looking for, this isn't the right Workaway for you.)

  • Arbeit

    Arbeit

Work with us will be focused on the new income streams first of all, but the work will be planned with Workaway skills in mind on a weekly basis. Example tasks could look like:

**Dropping flyers in mailboxes for ESL classes

**Script-writing or editing on the topics of ESL learning, Psychology, and Kids content, batch recording videos for both Youtube and TikTok, editing those videos for time/sound/quality/graphics, researching key hashtags and measuring their impact, etc

**Listing creation in platforms like Etsy and Amazon, product photos, product preparation/packing, product sales and marketing analysis, graphic design, product design, etc

Besides this, as a full house we do ask for an hour of each day's work (as in, part of your working hours) to be dedicated to cleaning in the house, something that we'll often be doing together. Besides that, since our kids are in school, we follow a pretty standard daily routine, so for Workawayers that will look like:

    Monday - Thursday:
9:00-10:00: House cleaning (generally focusing on deep-cleaning a specific area)
10:00-14:00: Working on the key weekly goals
14:00-15:00: Helping with lunch / cleanup after lunch

    Friday - Sunday

We are a completely bilingual household (English/Spanish), and both languages are used every day in our home. You will have the opportunity to practice and improve in either one, as David is also a certified ESL teacher.

  • Unterkunft

    Unterkunft

Workawayers will have a private room in the center of our home. All bedrooms are located on the top floor, and Workawayers are in the center one. There is a full bathroom on this floor that will be dedicated to Workawayers, and our daughters are instructed to use our bathroom (in our room). Breakfast, lunch, and dinner is provided each day - breakfast is generally independent, but lunch we always eat together and dinner is with Cristina and the girls (David is teaching during dinnertime). Please see the "What Else" section for more information on the house.

Regarding food, we want to be very clear about our perspective, as we know this is something that a lot of Workawayers and Workaway hosts struggle with. In our home you will not go hungry, but food is going to vary a lot, and we don't (on our own) have any dietary constraints. We're not going to eat steak and serve you cheap pizza, but also we don't eat steak very often ;-). Among us, breakfast looks like cereal and toast (David), or toast with some lunch meat and fruit (Cristina), so expect something along those lines. Lunch is the big meal here since we all eat together, and sometimes that'll look like a lentil stew, or fajitas, or cheeseburgers, or spaghetti, or tortilla de patatas and empanada, etc. Dinner is usually lighter, and often sandwiches, leftovers from lunch, pizza, soup, hot dogs, etc. Beyond that, David really likes to do American BBQ, so occasionally we'll have some dishes from this. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but just meant to be a realistic example.

On non work days (i.e. Fri-Sun), we are often out and about, so there's a planned menu for meals each day that we'll provide for you.

**Important note regarding dietary constraints and preferences**
We have absolutely no personal problems with any dietary preferences, and would in fact welcome learning more about nutrition. However, as our normal menu includes gluten, meat, sugars, processed foods (though we try not to, they're certainly there), eggs, etc, we are concerned that people with particular dietary needs may require things that would be completely outside our normal grocery planning, and that's not something we can necessarily accommodate.

    Was noch ...

Given that we have two young girls, this is a family environment and that has some natural implications. Our house can be noisy, messy at times, and sometimes downright frustrating. It is also incredibly warm, loving, and full of life. Given that our Workawayer room is right between our room and that of our daughters, staying with us involves a certain degree of "joining the family."

That doesn't mean you have to spend all your free time with us by any means, BUT be aware that in the afternoons (from 16:00-21:30) on Mon-Thurs we have classes in the basement, so the house needs to be otherwise quiet. You are totally welcome to be on the main floor with Cristina and our daughters, as long as you understand that the girls will almost certainly ask for your attention from time to time - it's not a place to come and expect to be 'left alone.' On Fri-Sun there are no classes, and we don't commonly use the basement space for much else, so you're also welcome to hang out there if you want. If we plan any events at the house while Workawayers are here, you're invited, but by no means obligated to attend if you don't want to.

Also, smoking/vaping/drug use of any kind/overt drunkenness is prohibited in the house. Smoking/vaping is fine on the patios, however. We do drink on occasion, but our children never see us drunk. Their bedtime is also around 20:30/21:00, so after this time we do not expect anybody coming home drunk and making lots of noise in the house. Let's be clear - we're adults and we've all been there, so it's not a matter of judgement; it's just that it's not the right environment we want for our kids.

We genuinely appreciate all the Workawayers that have taken the time to read this whole profile and consider working with us, and look forward to welcoming many new friends at home this year!
