  I have lived here for over 30 years and the dream was always to become as self sufficient as possible but the reality is that while working full time it is difficult to maintain the property and gardens. I run a small coffee business nearby in the summer and in winter try and catch up with all the chores and projects at home. Papatowai is such a beautiful peaceful place it really gets into your heart somehow and most people never want to leave again.

  We live in a small village on the coast. Our community comprises about 40 permanent residents. We are very central to most Catlins attractions such as Cathedral Caves, waterfalls and beautiful beaches and forest walks. I really enjoy learning about other cultures and peoples lives and customs. I hope you can work unsupervised for 4 to 5 hours per day and then explore our beautiful area.

  Arbeit

  I have a large garden which always needs weeding, compost turning, lawn mowing etc. Also a large pile of firewood to be split ( with mechanical wood splitter) . Tree planting and mulching and painting jobs also needed

  Unterkunft

  I have a small cosy cabin which is completely self contained which I rent to tourists in summer. Workaway guests will have the sole use of this cabin while here. I can provide most of your food for you to prepare yourselves as I work full time nearby and do not have time to cook for you usually.

  There is no public transport here so you will need to have your own vehicle for sight seeing etc. There are a couple of really nice forest and beach walks nearby that you can walk to from my property though.
