Please note that we are in rainy season at the moment, right now it is very quiet , sometimes bnb guests but no retreats and not many people staying here. This place is for you if you want quiet time in the nature.

    { We are very thankful to get so many messages from interested volunteers. In order to manage the communication more easily, please make sure to READ OUR PROFILE FULLY and describe in your potential request which projects and tasks would be the most suitable for you. You can find what kind of support we are looking for under “HELP” down below. Thank you }

    Buenos dias!

My name is Shlomo and, after leaving the big city in search for a much more basic and natural life, I've been living in the jungle for about 10 years. My home is now on some beautiful land in Guanacaste, Costa Rica and is centered around a holistic retreat and guest center, created by myself as well as many others who have helped along the way. This center is highlighted by a beautiful open-air Yoga deck, a large variety of organic fruit trees and herbs as well as several casitas for hosting guests and occasional group retreats. As I go, I am constantly learning about nature’s unique pace and healing, natural building, permaculture, and myself while living a healthy lifestyle. Maybe you'd like to join me in learning, too!

This season (2022/2023), we will host beautiful retreats guided by great leaders. However, most of our time and energy here is directed towards creating great experiences for guests coming for overnight stays. We have 6 casitas and they are offered online to people looking to stay in the area. My intention is to expand and have more guests coming in who would be happy to experience the magic of this space.

There is also a small vegan/vegetarian "Garden Café" on property where we create meals for guests/retreats as well as products for my Health Food business. I am selling these products to markets and shops in the area, which include nut-butters, Hummus , Tahini and more. We use as many ingredients from this land as possible.

We love to live quietly and in tune with nature here and would like to share this experience with you in exchange to have some valuable help.

Over all, we are looking for strong and creative volunteers to help with various projects around the farm and the retreat center. For the specific roles I'm looking for, please scroll down to the "HELP" section.
I look forward to hearing from you.

    Pura Vida!

I think that what past volunteers have appreciated most is the magic of simple living. Although you won't have the luxuries of air-conditioning, hot showers, or a fast/reliable Wifi connection, you can enjoy waking up in a vibrant jungle each morning to the calls of howler monkeys and bird songs. In your free time, you are encouraged to connect with the abundance of nature around you and with yourself; this is a perfect place to do so.
You can also practice your Spanish a bit with the locals in town/on the beach or with our employee(s) who speak only Spanish.
Another benefit is that you will likely learn different types of Yoga, depending on who is teaching. I personally like to teach Kundalini Yoga.
Further, you have the opportunity to learn more about living and building in a sustainable forest environment if that's something that interests you.
There's always something to learn here if you come with curiosity and an open awareness :)

  • Arbeit

These are the roles I'm looking for; you may need to take on more than one of these roles in order to fulfill your 25 hours per week. For example, if you teach morning yoga, you may also do gardening or work in the Cafe for the rest of your day.
During retreats, I may require different tasks to be completed or ask you to work more than 25 hours in a week; in that case, you can "bank" those hours and take off days following the retreat to use as you like.
Our Priority right now is to build a Green House- We would love to have some help here, if you have experience , great!

Another Priority is our Dream of a Jungle Path on our Land that needs to be cleared.

Cleaner -- someone to help clean casitas and get them ready for guests

Social Media/Photographer -- someone to help me spread the word about products and casitas as well as take beautiful photos around the property to use for marketing purposes

Gardener -- someone to work with the fruit trees and herbs, weeding, being responsible for irrigation, perhaps someone with an interest or experience in permaculture, etc. We have hundreds of pineapple plants, fruit trees and more that are hoping to be looked after!

Yoga Teacher -- someone to teach some morning or afternoon classes

Electrician -- someone with experience in order to rewire our casitas

Woodworker -- someone with experience in order to build a casita or other furniture

Cook for Volunteers -- someone to cook for a team of 4 or more volunteers when applicable, 2 times a day.

General land maintenance -- someone to build help clear up a jungle path on the land, as well as take care of what's needed around the property

In exchange for 25 hours of work per week, you will have a bed in a shared rustic casita which houses 4 beds
with 2 Bathrooms, that's designated for our volunteers. You are also welcome to camp on this land; I can provide sheets if you able to bring your tent and whatever else you might need to sleep comfortably. If you prefer a hammock you can bring that as well.

Please note that we fill the beds in the volunteers dorm on a - physical - first come, first serve basis. We do have one tent, sleeping mat and a lot of bedding to lend.

I also offer food for you to prepare (enough for 3 meals a day) that varies week to week but often includes rice, beans, oatmeal, and seasonal fruits and vegetables. You will also be provided with basic cooking items such as oil and salt, and you are welcome to use herbs from the land to flavor your dishes. There is also tap water here which is drinkable and from our well.

There is a shared kitchen space for cooking inside your Casita. There is also an outdoor shower and toilet which can be used. We have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a variety of insects here, but they all are friendly. We need to remember that this is their home and we are the visitors.

There isn't Wifi available in your bungalow, but it's available and can be used in the Yoga Shala in your free time.

Best volunteer match: non-smoker, grounded, health conscious, with an interest in yoga. We like to have a good time here, but this is not a good fit for someone who likes to party/stay up late on a regular basis.

Perks of the area: I am located 3 km from a very special white sand beach, Playa San Juanillo (located about a 40 min's also possible to hitchhike!). You can choose to spend your free time here - it is a really beautiful place for swimming, snorkeling, relaxing, and watching sunsets. There is also a turtle beach that's 6km away, where (depending on time and season) you can experience watching turtles laying eggs or the little ones hatching and rushing to the ocean. The closest town of San Juanillo is a small (140 adults) and friendly community that has a few tasty restaurants, a small market, and a tattoo shop.

Note: I recommend bringing the following items with you, as they are very expensive to buy here: Bug repellent, shampoo/conditioner, vitamins/supplements, flashlight, sunscreen, and anti-itch creams for bug bites

GETTING HERE/TRANSPORT: Please arrive during the day, before sundown. If you are coming from San Jose, you will take buses from San Jose --> Santa Cruz --> San Juanillo. Buses leave from San Jose at Station 7/10, but I do not have the schedule so confirm it with the station. Monday - Saturday, there is a bus from Santa Cruz to San Juanillo that leaves at 4am, 12:30pm, and 4pm. (Sundays only one bus at 12:30 pm), so plan accordingly.
