For some time, I lived a full-time vanlife while moving from island to island.
Somewhere along the way, I found a place that, whether by accident or not, felt surprisingly close to ideal.
A few questions first
Are you...
someone who feels at ease living in the countryside, away from cities?
able to make music on a laptop or computer?
a digital nomad?
someone who does not eat meat, or eats very little of it?
open to being interviewed about your travel experiences?
interested in food tasting?
happy to join music events together?
a good swimmer?
interested in spearfishing?
when you are by the sea, what do you pay attention to?
Please send me your answers in a message.

I have traveled through many warm places, both inside and outside Japan.
I have long been a serious island lover. Or maybe it is more accurate to say that I have been under the spell of islands for years.
After moving across many islands, I returned to the mainland, continued exploring different places, and eventually arrived here.
This place is not an island, which is unusual for me.
And yet, it carries something close to what I had been looking for in islands all along.
If you like the sea but not beaches crowded with people, I think you may appreciate this place.
As long as the weather has not been too rough, the water is usually very clear.
I believe that unexpected international encounters have the power to make the world a little more peaceful.
That is why I want to create opportunities, in a natural way, to meet people from different countries and backgrounds.
At the same time, when I look at people these days, I often feel that the things we should really know how to do are being pushed aside.
The words may sound beautiful, but the actions do not always follow.
I am drawn to people who move with reason.
When I see that, I simply think it is admirable, and honestly, cool.
The places I have traveled through include Asia, Central America, South America, North America, Europe, parts of the former Soviet region, a few Arab countries, and Oceania.
In recent years, I have also been interested in the eastern Caribbean islands and Eastern Europe.
One place that left a particularly strong impression on me, in many ways, was Tonga.
It is far from everything, the islands are spread far apart, and the conditions there felt very different from the more typical places where most people live.
And to be very clear, I like warm climates.
I left city life many years ago.
I have no regrets about that.
I have lived on very rural islands, and I have moved through many islands in different ways.
So far, the kind of life that feels most natural to me is something at the intersection of islands and vanlife.
I feel that people today, in general, have lost too much of their time.
Protecting time for what truly matters.
Not worrying more than necessary.
These are things I am still practicing myself.
I am still learning how to stay well within this reality.
My basic philosophy is not to own more than I need.
Not to keep accumulating things that I am unlikely to need in the future.
That said, I am not a minimalist.
It is not that I have no attachments at all.
There are tools I use often, materials I like to keep close, and things that are simply good to have for guests.
I also enjoy using things I have made with my own hands.
I would be happy to meet people who share a similar way of feeling.
When I look at human society today, I often feel that it is deeply destructive, not only toward the earth, but also toward other human beings.
Always trying to take as much as possible for personal gain.
I want to reduce that kind of selfishness in myself as much as I can.
At the same time, I do not want to stop being who I am.
If something in this way of seeing the world resonates with you, even a little, then I think staying here could become something more than just temporary accommodation.
For me as well as for you.

Notes:
ーAbout work
I am a freelancer, so from time to time I need to focus on my own work.
How about you?
Do you have any work or personal projects you would like to do during your stay?
ーAbout food
To be honest, I tend to feel most comfortable welcoming people who are pescatarian, sushitarian, vegetarian, or vegan, or close to that.
What I cook is basically meat-free, including no chicken.
ーAbout personality
I am especially interested in people who have a sense of humor, but who also know how to think.
---If You Are Thinking of Coming to the Kinko Bay Side---
⚫︎From JR Kagoshima-Chuo Station
Once you arrive at JR Kagoshima-Chuo Station, there is a bus heading toward Furue on the Shibushi line. There are about four buses a day, and the ride takes around 90 minutes.
⚫︎From Osaka or Tokyo
There are daily flights to Kagoshima from Osaka (Kansai Airport) and Tokyo (Narita) with low-cost airlines such as Skymark, Peach, and Jetstar.
One-way tickets can often be found for around 5,000 to 10,000 yen.
⚫︎From Osaka by ferry
If you enjoy the kind of travel that crosses Japan slowly, there is also a ferry departing from Osaka in the late afternoon.
A one-way ticket to Shibushi Port is around 11,000 yen. The ferry company is Sunflower.
From there, it takes about 45 minutes to Kanoya.
⚫︎By rental car from Kagoshima Airport
It takes about 100 minutes by car from Kagoshima Airport to my place.
From July to October, it is typhoon season here, so depending on timing, travel plans can sometimes be affected.
It does not happen often, but it is something worth keeping in mind.
⚫︎From the Ibusuki side by ferry
There is also a ferry from the Ibusuki side to the Nejime Port area.

If you enjoy swimming or snorkeling every day, you can absolutely do that here. The sea is constantly changing, sometimes quite dramatically, and staying here gives you the chance to witness how much the sky and water shift throughout the day. The beach is right here, and we also have a SUP board and some basic fishing gear.
There is no supermarket or convenience store nearby. The nearest supermarket is about an hour away on foot. You can walk there, or you are welcome to use one of my bikes. It is a good idea to bring some of your favorite personal essentials with you.
Over the past few years, I have been working with wood mainly through small personal and practical projects. Creating something simple for your own needs can be deeply satisfying. I also believe that basic repair skills are valuable for everyone, and I am still learning and improving along the way myself.
If you are interested in woodworking but are not sure how to begin, I would be happy to help you get started and show you which tools are useful.
Arbeit
Life here is shaped by both creative work and the quiet rhythm of everyday living. During your stay, I may sometimes invite you to take part in projects related to digital video, audio recording, filming, or small acts of repair and making around the house.
Practical tasks and small improvements are a natural part of daily life in this place, so they arise regularly. Whenever they do, I will always check in with you first to see whether you would like to join. I hope this shared, evolving way of living feels comfortable for you, and perhaps even enjoyable. I will always try to respect your mood and energy for the day, so let’s communicate openly and naturally as we go.
You may be invited to join in:
Small repairs and ongoing care of the house
Gardening and working with the land
Exploring and testing the audio-visual studio together
Projects
A. Working with bamboo or other natural materials to build simple walls
B. Creating practical objects from driftwood and found materials
C. Video shooting and editing, audio recording, and digital music making
D. Looper-based sound mixing and field recording
Please choose the project that resonates with you most.
Cooking is an essential part of life here as well. You are also welcome to join me for a ride anytime, and we can arrange something in a natural way, depending on the day.
On your first day, please make a simple list of what you like and dislike, so we can shape the stay in a way that feels good for both of us.

Kann Digital Nomads unterbringen
I’m thinking of hosting a small gathering for nomadic workers at my place sometime this month. It would be a relaxed time to connect, collaborate, and simply enjoy sharing a bayside workspace together. The setting is mostly outdoors, with shade, the sounds of animals and waves, and a quiet natural atmosphere. Now and then, you may also hear long-distance trucks passing by... and zzz. If this sounds like something for you, please send me a message with the subject line: “Nomad Gathering”

I would love to connect with other independent vanlifers, as I am also a part-time vanlifer myself. If you are part of the vanlife world, please send me a message with the subject line: “Vanlife People”
