I've spent 4 weeks at Joye this summer, during August, and it was my first experience as a Workaway. Definetly a good one !
As a French, I felt like a traveller in this region I didn't know and I had the opportunity to practice English.
I've helped in gardening ( giving water to the plants, picking up herbs and plums and more...), sometimes I
… read more gave a hand to clean the house, and I regularly wrote some contents for a website (a project Joye develops now).
I really enjoy the beautiful nature of this peaceful place, and the incredible accomodation (Thank you Joye!). I could swim everyday in a large pool and Joye offered me the opportunity to visit lovely villages around. I've liked to meet a community (family, friends, neighbors ) and we had a good collaboration with the other Workaway (Hi Rachel!) . The cultural exchanges and conversations were very interesting. I had a very good time there, working but relaxing.
Nature lovers, go for it !

El and I spent three weeks from July to August with Joye at Gauginelles, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
The accommodation was fantastic – as the large house was being rented, we all moved over to the comfortable Maison Elise and spent long evenings out at the table together over good food and honest wine. Being summer, there was always something
… read more happening in the surrounding villages (including the annual Fête des vins at Gaillac), and with Joye and the other workawayers we would often spend the morning perusing local markets or the evening dancing to Latin music at a winery.
Our work was enjoyable and ranged from cleaning the main house in preparation for the guests to grouting pool tiles and sanding tables or helping with the website/social media. Joye always took into account our skills and preferences and tried to give us interesting tasks to do.
We learnt a lot about local culture and life in the countryside – Joye even organised for us to visit the neighbour’s house so we could practice our French – as well as about Joye’s many projects and passions. What will stay with me above all, however, is the wonderful French way of « profitant de la vie » ! We had a truly memorable time at Gauginelles; it was better than we could’ve imagined. Absolutely amazing experience in Gauginelles!
I went with a friend of mine from University for a two week stay and from the beginning we were blown away with the location and the hosts.
The accomodation itself was superb with our own private rooms and a kitchen, where we cooked meals. Along with this there was a washing machine we could use when
… read more we needed it. The work itself was very enjoyable ranging from gardening, to cooking shared meals, designing and redecorating the interior of the homes and cleaning, to photography and making videos.
The host, Joye, was a wonderful lady who made us feel right at home from the beginning and truly made this opportunity. Not only did she work alongside us on our projects and incorporate our own opinions when working, she brought us to many different activities including local food market and wine tastings!

Our first experience couldn’t be better!
We loved all the work we have done in Gauginelles, from cleaning to building a stone wall. We loved to do garden work and the most amazing thing was being able to pick fruit from the tree and eat, no money in the world would buy that experience.

My girlfriend and I spent 4 weeks at Joyes beautiful house in Southern France. The house is very comfortable to stay in and in a beautiful peaceful part of the country. … read more a dedicated driver and one can look forward to learning about the intricate history of the area, including the story of a 65m deep well atop a mountain village. The greatest aspect of staying with Joye was the amount of intellectual conversations, discussions and debates we had together amongst ourselves, visitors, neighbours and other workaways.
