Our ancestral farm of 147 acres is located six miles from the shores of Georgian Bay between Owen Sound and Wiarton, Ontario, Canada. We welcome guests through a website there and need some help making the beds and cleaning as well as gardening. And ideally some help to build at tiny house on wheels. Preparing food is also helpful, especially organic produce from the garden since my wife is still working in the city most of the time and I can't do all the tasks by myself. The Bruce Peninsula from Wiarton to Tobermory is a world class biosphere with limestone cliffs on the Georgian Bay side and sandy shores on the Lake Huron side. So there is plenty of outdoor activities in the summertime, including The Bruce Trail, Sauble Beach, Bruce Peninsula National Park, and music venues such as Summerfolk at Kelso Park in Owen Sound. Aside from attracting folks for cultural exchange and help, we are also interested in attracting folks seriously interested in organic farming longer term...folks who might like to settle in the area and enhance the community. The house itself is from around 1900 and has all wooden floors restored but as an old house, the restoration continues. There is only one bedroom available for workaway guests until we get the tiny house on wheels completed. Climate is hot and humid in summer...cold and snowy in winter...rainy and muddy in spring at times...cool and rainy in autumn. We use a woodstove to heat the place except in summer and early autumn and late spring. We have one daughter but she lives too far away in the city to help.

I am a former writer and photographer and my wife worked in graphic art but likely the biggest benefit you would find in coming to the Farm would be finding the joy of living close to the land with songbirds and nature all around you without the distractions of television or wi-fi. You would experience the joys of your hands in the rich loam soil and eating fresh vegetables from the garden from the fruits of your labor. And there would be visitors from around the world as well. If you help build a tiny house on wheels you could also enjoy staying in that for the experience although your main quarters would be in a bedroom in the house. And if you had longer term farming intentions, you might find the area ideal to settle in which case we would negotiate some kind of arrangement for you to use some of the land for your own farming purposes.

From Skinner's Bluff to Wiarton, Lion's Head, Bruce Peninsula National Park and Tobermory, you can enjoy this northern part of the Bruce Trail. Also Sauble Beach and smaller beaches on nearby Lake Huron. Music at venues such as Heartwood Music Hall in Owen Sound, as well as farmer's markets, hiking, swimming, cycling and boating. I am allergic to tobacco smoke so ours is a non-smoking property. And I do not drink so no alcohol is available at the house either. Music is welcome if you play or sing. We have never had workaway folks before but have had a couple of short term woofers from friends, and one other volunteer helper.
