Beschreibung
We are located in Cockatoo, in the Dandenong Ranges east of Melbourne. It’s an acre property that has ample garden space, good bones, and ambitions to evolve into a beautiful shared permaculture space. We are close to so many stunning forest walks, gardens, and easy access to both regional Victoria for day trips as well as access to central Melbourne - for when the city experience calls to you.
My 26 year old, Kit, and their cute dog Harper live with me at the moment while completing university study. My other daughter Eilish and partner Shiv visit often. We are all big foodies and want to get back to growing a huge amount of our produce as we did a few years back. I run the local community house with many activities and anyone visiting would be encouraged to join in and meet the community there too. We offer a cute bungalow with kitchenette and bathroom attached, heating and cooling, and a swimming pool too.Arten von Hilfe und Lernmöglichkeiten

I run the local community house and it offers the chance to connect with many people from the local community and share in events there. I also have a small tea making business and sell at local markets which are always fun places to explore. We love to share meals and are big food enthusiasts - so keen to learn about travellers cuisines and stories from their culture. The community here is not particularly culturally diverse and I miss that, having experienced it elsewhere. I have just started learning a little Spanish as my eldest daughter and her partner speak it quite well, and would love to improve - also happy to revive my school girl French should the opportunity arise! Keen for company and the chance to learn more about the world through the eyes of travellers.

The garden here was once stunning, with lots of rare plants and space for growing vegetables and flowers. An extended period of illness I experienced means it’s gotten away from me and needs some enthusiastic garden passionate people to help bring her back to her rightful state. There are weeds to clear (including blackberries) , lawns to tame, paths to clear and uncover. If you have experience pruning that won’t go astray as there are young fruit trees that need attention. Creativity in this area is so welcome - I have so many ideas for how the place could look. I work about 6 hours a day 4 days a week, but will be around all the rest of the time so we can balance the hours to include some shared time in the garden sometimes too. Basic handy skills with small craft or repair stuff super welcome too.

I am only just beginning to learn Spanish and it’s a slow journey but happy to challenge myself with anyone bilingual! I have a smattering of French from decades ago but it’s very rusty!Unterkunft
We have a cosy bungalow next to the house that has a kitchenette and bathroom included. Heating and cooling, a fridge and capacity for privacy when you need it. We are flexible with meals - it may work to assemble your own breakfast and lunch with supplied items some days, and depending on schedules I am also happy to make a cooked breakfast to share. (We have chickens so have fresh eggs!) Evening meals are a lovely time to share and connect. I love to cook so enjoy hosting for dinners and learning from others too. You will need to buy your own alcohol mostly though there will be the odd bottle of wine over dinner :-)

Our location means you have access to so many stunning forest walks, camping opportunities and hikes. The hills also have a huge range of galleries and events, and we are not far from the Yarra valley vineyards. A train to Melbourne is about an hour to 90 mins or so depending on the time of day and it’s easy to do a day trip to explore.
We have buses nearby, which can also take you to the train line. If you have an international license and good driving record we can help with a car sometimes too.
You must love dogs as Harper is needy and loving! Visiting pups are too! We are pretty quiet generally and not usually up too late, but accomodation set up means if you’re a night owl that’s not a problem. Wifi available. We are non smokers. No smoking in or near the buildings and extreme care must be taken with smoking in gardens etc as we are in a bushfire zone.Etwas mehr Information

Wifi is usually pretty good unless there’s a storm. We can lose power if a tree takes out a line, but we can likely hook you up to a work Zone in the village if that happens.

We have driveway space for a motorhome If needed but it’s not a campsite per se. Bungalow with all facilities available
Hier sind Haustiere in der Regel willkommen
If you have a friendly dog who is kind to our rather nervous dog you’d be welcome. No cats as there is a 24 hour cat curfew in our area to protect wildlife. You will wake to the sound of kookaburras often :-)
