    Patagonian family and village
We are a family of four: Walter & Paola and our two sons Vladimir (12) & Tino (7). We have been living in Los Antiguos for more than 10 years now. Our farm, a quiet place, is located in the center of Los Antiguos; it is easy to walk to the busstation, a supermarket or other services offered by the community. The village, and our farm for sure, is an oasis of trees and wind sheltered places in the rough and windy Patagonian steppe with its' endless horizons. We produce mainly cherries but also other fruits, a variety of vegetables and very good mushrooms. Our chickens help us keeping our soil healthy and they are always happy to see you come. The rooster might wake you up although our experience is that most people staying with us are charmed by his presence or choose to sleep in...

    Sustainability and genuine exchange
So, dedicated to our society and environment, agroecology and permaculture are core to our way of producing. We are looking forward to meet new people and share our experience and knowledge about sustainable ways of living and farming. Next to that we love to hear about the experiences of other people in other places and explore the cultural differences to broaden our own horizon. We see this also as an opportunity for our children; to develop their knowledge and social skills when it comes to engaging with people from other places and cultures. It would be very useful for us and our children to hear, learn and practise some english but of course all foreign languages contribute to a broader and more open minded attitude in life.

    Education and connecting with nature
Educational activities, for all ages, are other pillars of our farm; we offer guided tours to groups, for example school classes, or interested individuals. We also organize workshops on different topics like seeding, growing and harvesting, adobe constructions, composting, handicrafts, aromatic plants / herbs. It is wonderful to see how happy visitors are after having felt connected with nature. Not only through words and understanding but also by doing, touching, smelling, feeling and looking with different attention. It opens the way to experience one's own beauty on top!

    Kayaks and bikes
Except for our farm we are also into kayaking on the lake Buenos Aires. It is the second biggest sweet water lake from the Southern Americas and is shared by Argentina and Chile, where it is called lake General Carrera. Be aware that the temperature of the water is most of the time icy-cold. We rent out kayaks, and (mountain, tandem, common) bikes too!!, from our cosy place at the turning point of the so called 'costanera' on the shore of the lake. Volunteers staying and working at our farm are welcome to explore the breathtaking landscapes and Patagonian clear sky views by using one of our bikes or kayaks. One could even cross the border towards Chile since the fist Chilean village lies at only 13 km distance by bike.

  • Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten

    Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten

At our organic farm you will learn from our own farming experiences which we developed throughout the years in this specific Patagonian area.

We work in a dynamic social way and thus invite volunteers to also learn from one another.

Getting to know our family-life in this village will give you a true insight into living in this part of the world; the diversity of the argentinean culture and maybe even something about the chilean culture as well, because, in this border area, some things and families are at home in both countries.

While you develop your farming skills you can practise your spanish and your ability to talk without words in case you don't know the word yet...we will do the same..we might end up laughing a lot!

Help to pick fruits, to collect seeds, to transplant plants, water the plants, to prune the fruit trees, to do constructions with earth, to learn how to grow mushrooms, harvest vegetables, to collect fire-wood, to maintain the volunteers house, prepare for the weekly market of local producers, come and enjoy that market too while selling and having a 'mate' with other locals.

    Unterkunft

There is a seperate cute small house for the volunteers with room for up to 4 people. There is one room with two beds and one room with a double bed. The rooms share the kitchen/living room area and the toilet and shower. A dry toilet is in construction. We provide many fruits and vegetables from the farm that you can use to cook.

As part of the exchange our Granja offers one main meal a day which will be the lunch. Depending on the situation either ingredients or the meal will be provided for. In the last case...: Paola cooks delicious, healthy food and Walter could be a professional 'asador'...

In your free time you will have the opportunity to kayak and mountain bike for free and, for sure, enjoy this garden of Eden (using volunteer Nicodème's words) eating delicious fruits straight from the trees, breathing clean Patagonian air and enjoying the meditative silence when the wind is not blowing your thoughts away.

Several excursions to amazing sites, in Chili and Argentina, are offered by local travel agencies and different hiking trails for free are open throughout the year at Portal La Ascensión at 17 km distance from the village.

If you want to stay closer to our farm, you can stroll along the river 'Los Antiguos', or walk a bit further and walk along the shore of the lake and visit the 'Reserva Natural Urbana - Laguna de los Juncos' where, depending on the season, a variety of Patagonian steppe flora and fauna can be observed.

We can help you to find out what, where and how suits you the best. We are looking forward to receive you and to get to know you!
