Hi, we are Amaranta and Jan.
we are a spanish german family with a 5 years old girl and a 10 year old boy (Alana and Silvan). In the beginning of 2016 we bought a piece of land around 2km outside of the village Torre de Don Miguel in a beautiful mountain area called la Sierra de Gata.
The Sierra de Gata is famous for its forests, its rivers, the high quality olive oil, the delicias goat cheeses and maybe also some other things.
On our farm are growing around 350 olive and a lot of fruit trees. We produce our own ecologic olive oil for and prepare as much as we can out of the fruits of our trees (such as apples, pears, kakis, pomegranate, oranges, mandarines, limones, almonds, peaches and more) for us and for our friends and family.
During the last years we changed an old goat stable into an organic living house by using mainly natural materials and even if the biggest part is made, we are still working on it.
We are artesans. So Amaranta is illustrating and does beautifull leather works. I love to work with wood and i found my passion in creating kitchen knifes and cutting boards. Our busines should not be part of the workaway project but off course we can show you how we do it.
So shortly that means, that we try to find a ballance by growing our kids, working with the trees, create our handcrafts and of course create our dream place.
Since a big bush fire hit the area around us in August 2022, there is on project more which keeps us busy. Together with an local environment association we plant trees and take care of the area we already reforested in the last years (build bird houses and do as much as we can to bring back the forest and animal life in the neighborhood). In the last 3 Years everything has grown a lot around us. so it is a pleasure to see the first results of our planting efforts.
Our live is basic but very beautiful.
We have electricity from our solar panels and water from our spring. Our Toilet is a dry toilet. There are three nice dogs, two cats and a couple of chickens living with us. Therefore there is delishes olive oil, fresh eggs almoust every day and high level goat cheese from our friends.
We would be very glad if you like to help us. You should doing well with kids, be not afraid about dogs and not alergic against dogs/cats and the living in the landscape.
We would be glad to show you the area and spend nice evenings outside by watching the incredible stars. We also like to have our family live and for this we are shurly not angry if you are independent and like to explore the sites by your self.
We speak spanish, german, english and french.

Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje
As we are born and grown up in two different countries and have friends from a lot of different nationalities. So different cultures and traditions are quite often a funny topic. You will propably get in touch with the spanish and of course with the german culture as well. If you are interested in spanish traditions, than shurly you will like the old historic villages and if you are lucky, you will get some of the traditional fiestas with its rituals during your stay.
You can learn with us a lot of things about olive trees and olive oil, wood working, knife making, bio construction and living off-grid.
We are surely not experts in all those things but we made our experiences and will make hopefully nice experiences with you together.
These area is full of nice spots. In the summer the famous natural pools in tis area and the little bars beside, called "chiringuitos", are great to spend nice hours by relaxing and enjoying the time.

Ayuda
We like to offer to help around 5 hours a day/5 days a week. This meanse mainly the morning hours till lunch. Depending to the weather this can also change (according to you). The kind of help depends mainly of the season.
There are several things to do with the olive and fruit trees and the land during the your and there are all the time small projects to realise and. just lets talk what you before you come for make it more specific.
Beside that, we like to integreate you in the daily tasks (taking care of the animals, cooking together ...) and of course it is nice, if you enjoy playing with the kids.

in our house there is a mix of spanish, english and german almoust all the time. So our kids are language proofed and we enjoy to have a nother language in the house.
Alojamiento
We offer you food and a sleeping place. We are not vegetarians nor vegans but we enjoy vegetarian food. For your stay we offer you our comfortable caravan inclusive a big bed, couch and table. We also have enough space for your own caravan/van. If you like, you can use one of our bicycles for go to the village or explore the beautiful area.

It is a short walk from our place to come to the village. From there a bus is going to the biger towns and cities. The Sierra de Gata is directly on the border to Portugal. The villages in the sierra are very nice to explore and study old ways of constructing or just enjoy a walk. Like you can see here in workaway there are quiet a lot of different projects here in the area. So if you are interested you can also visit our friends and neighbors and see different projects or live forms.
