Every two years since 2007, the boat trust in Franklin has run a fully catered ten day small boat expedition in the south of Tasmania timed to arrive at the start of the Australian Wooden Boat Festival in Hobart. We also run a smaller scale four day trip from Hobart to Franklin after the festival. Everything is organised entirely by volunteers, with funds raised used to support the on-going activities.

    * It is for people who want an adventure in southern Tasmania.
    * The work involves providing land support for a small boat expedition over 10 days.
    * The expedition will begin at Recherche Bay and end in Hobart.
    * Each day the expedition will move on to a different location, road transport provided.
    * Sleeping accommodation is in small tents with sleeping bags which can be provided.
    * There is a traveling kitchen and dining marquee.
    * The land support crew will be fed three meals a day as part of this arrangement.
    * There will be plenty of spare time during the day after the camp has been packed up, moved and set up.
    * There will be two or three rest days for bushwalking and/or sailing.
    * This is the 10th time this expedition has been run.
    * To find out more about the boat trust and expeditions, ask us for links to the websites.
    * The expedition forms part of, and arrives at the Australian Wooden Boat Festival.
    * This is the largest festival of its type in the southern hemisphere.
    * This expedition will go from Hobart to the boat trust in Franklin.

(The name of the expedition means to go by canoe in the language of the Melukerdee people, through whose waters we travel)

Amongst the volunteers who run the expedition are the camp support crew, whose job it is to setup and pull down the camp each day, move it on to the next destination, and generally assist with keeping everything running smoothly. The work is hard, but there is plenty of spare time to explore this unique part of the world, and to get on the water on one or more of the many boats that participate.
