Country Farm is owned by an igorot (indigenous) family located in Mt. Province at the northern part of the Philippines. It is about 22 hectares of which 10 hectares is for cultivation and the rest is a forest area being preserved.
The farm is a member of an Ecoutourism Society and it is newly accredited by the Department of Agricultural Training Institute as a learning site for organic farming. The mission of the farm is to lead the way for the practice of ecologically sound and productive farming systems among the local farmers. We will continue with the old farming practices of our forefathers which are still considered as responsible farming practices but with the infusion of newer technology. To believe is to advocate. Our farm is built around the indigenous farming principles taught us by our forefathers. Partake in all the life- giving gifts the land could give you but make sure you leave the environment unharmed. Do not get more than you could give the land back. Take care of the land and the land will take care of you.
At the moment, we are trying to grow our dragon fruits, coffee, bananas vegetables chemical free. We make our own vermi fertilizers, vermi tea, organic sprays and concoctions. We sell our products to the local community at an affordable price so even those who have less in their pockets can afford to buy locally produced organic produce. In addition, our farm is very special in a way that the family is very fond of flowers. You can expect then not only to find vegetables along the pathways of the farm but flowers as well. We both have ornamental and edible flowers.
Our family farm has also a goal to make the farm available as a training ground for young farmers. Our Farm is also open for farm guest and visitors seeking for ways to escape the rigors of living and seek solace in the company of nature. If you are interested to join the indigenous farmers and learn from how they practice all this principles on organic and responsible farming then you are welcome as a volunteer in our farm. You have a chance to experience the culture of the natives and at the same time live a simple country life while communing with nature.

The farming system which we have applying the sustaibable indigenous practices our forefathers passed to us demontrates our culture. Cooking, using wild edible plants, making native cakes out of rice, using of wild sunflowers as fertilizers, building stone walls as preventive measures to erosion, building grass huts and etc. The volunteers can also partake in fiestas to celebrate our good harvest, cultural dances .
You will always be invited to join the family in the activities they have like weddings, indigenous fiestas, birthdays + Christmas and Easter celbration if you happen to be volunteering in these days.
The various activities which the volunteers can join are the following:
* vermicomposting and vermiteamaking
* weeding at the coffee and dragon fruit plantation plantation
* vegetable gardening
* join the banana plantation project for the volunteers
* preparation of farming organic sprays and concoctions
* you can learn the preparation of native foods like rice cakes, vegetar burgers and etc-
* potting of plants
* possibility of partaking to local cultural affairs
* help with practical works in maintaining the bamboo nursery
*we wish to tap the the best of any special skills the volunteer have and then we can make plans
of any work in the farm where the volunteers skill be used for the farm development. Let us know if you can contribute
something for the development of the farm depending upon the skills you have. Together we can create a special
avtivity program for you.
We have two cottages for our volunteers. Each cottage has two bedrooms and can house 4 volunteers. That means we can have 8 volunteers who can stay with us at the same time. We provide all beddings except towels.
You have a kitchen and a little dining room. Bathrooms and toilet is comfortable but we dont offer warm shower. You cook your own food which will be provided and it is mostly from the fresh harvest from the farm. You are however occasionally invited to join the family for a meal.
It is important for us to know if you have a special diet for ex. if you are vegetarian or anything you are allergic with. This would help us to know which food supply you get.
We only supply the seasonal fruits available at the farm. If a volunteer wants to eat various type of fruit everyday then they have to buy it with their personal money.
- The list of places to visit are available at your cottage for ex. Sagada Cave, Banaue Rice Terraces, Bontoc museum etc.
- The nearest town from the location of the farm is about 8 kilometers away. There are jeepneys passing by infron of the farm gate which you could avail off. If you miss these jeepneys then you can always hitch hike
- We wish for a minimum stay of one week. If you wish to stay more than one week then these should be discussed with the host family. Indicate this in your application form.
- Volunteers work 5 days a week at their pace.
