    Description

We are a family living on a 120 acre property in the beautiful rainforest hinterland 20 minutes drive from the idyllic beaches of Byron Bay, NSW.

Our property runs adjacent to the Goonengerry national park, which is lush, sub tropical rain forest, with many walking trails, creeks, waterfalls and abundant wildlife including koalas, wallabies, cockatoos, bandicoots, Echidnas, pythons and interesting birdlife. Our property is a community with 7 shares, with a diverse and interesting group of people. Our share is 3 acres and we share the communal land with the other landholders who are all good friends.

We have three adult kids, Sam 23, Lucy 25 and Jack 27. Sam is living at home at the moment and Lucy and Jack are in Melbourne but visit when they can which we love. Sam is a keen football ( soccer ) player and always enjoys sharing his passion for football with other enthusiasts. We have two cats, Tundro and Ollie, they are indoor cats but Tundro loves going for walks on his harness. We have 7 Cockatiels, some are quite friendly and like a pat.

We have a good sized, comfortable house with large decks to sit on and take in the gorgeous view of the mountains. We have large, well equipped kitchen and enjoy cooking. Tanya is a keen baker and we have a small business baking yummy fudge brownies, she is quite creative and also designs jewellery. David works as a builder and carpenter and built our house which is mostly finished but still some projects on the go. We have a basic home gym for anyone who is keen.

We love nature, watching a good movie , music, art and good conversation. We are interested in the Workaway experience being a rewarding exchange for all.

    David, Tanya and Sam :)

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We have hosted many travellers from around the world over the past 17 years. We have a good understanding of peoples personal and cultural needs, and love to learn about other cultures and share the best of our own. Our local area is home to a very embracing and multicultural population. We can share our cooking experience, language practice, teach you how to use farm machinery ( mowers, brush cutters etc ), knowledge about local wildlife and living on the land in Australia. We are open communicators and are genuinely interested in connecting with people and learning and sharing about our seperate experiences of life which is always so diverse but with many parallels.

    Help

We would appreciate help with grounds and garden maintenance, help around the house with cleaning and organising, and building projects, we are flexible with work times and mostly ( unless we are working on a time specific project ) happy for people to do their hours when it suits them. We value good work ethic, people that are happy to work alone or together, enthusiasm and practical skills.

    What else ...

The Byron Shire has some of the most beautiful beaches in Australia. The gorgeous hinterland offers great opportunities for walks, local waterholes, hiking and exploring. There are quite a number of other towns around the shire that are interesting to visit. There are many great craft and farmers markets in the area, regular music festivals and live music. We go to town regularly and so do other members of our community if you are looking for a ride into town.

Yes, however as we live in a rural area we don't have the super high connection speeds as you would expect in the city. Having said that we have had people stay with us for extended periods that were working online and never had any major issues.
