This was my first Workaway experience and it was a wonderful one. I spent 5 weeks on the farm. Sylvia and Jerome are extremely welcoming and helpful. My work on the farm was a little bit of everything. Cleaning, painting, building and fixing things a little everywhere. I enjoyed the calm lifestyle and of course the absolutely breathtaking views!
… read more And the physical labor really built some healthy muscles that made you both physically and mentally stronger! The animals are all incredibly sweet and their personalities are all unique and beautiful. Vovo and rio would follow me around whenever I did things on the farm and always kept me company. My everyday chores were feeding the animals but other than that my tasks differed. Pre warning about the Wi-Fi only reaches in and around the main house and not to the workaway room. But the positive with that was you put your phone down and picked a book up. I really recommend Sylvia’s home to you whether it’s your fist workaway or one of many! I hope to return some day! I recently spent two weeks staying with Sylvia and Jerome over Christmas, and it was one of the best ways I could have spent my holiday. From the get-go they were both incredibly kind and charitable. Sylvia was thrilled to chat and share her knowledge of medicine and always knows how to ask the right questions to start a good conversation. Jerome
… read more was wonderful to speak with, and really helped me improve my French through daily conversation (and correction!) in both French and English. Sylvia's cooking was always top notch, and I was never left needing more. Between the two of them, you'll feel like you're right back at home.
As for work, it was laid out very clearly from the start (with an informative white board!), feed the horses in the morning, take them to the field, clean their stalls, refill their hay. At sundown, bring the horses in, feed them, clean and brush as needed. I got to spend a lot of time with the 4 horses, and it was incredibly rewarding getting to know them and their gentle yet cheeky personalities. In addition to this, I would feed the dogs, Rio and Woody, who are both full of life and will be sure to keep you company, as well as the cats, Trixie, Strumeli, and Soleil if she made an appearance. In between that I helped out with other projects they had, which mainly consisted of collecting brush from cut trees to clear a field.
Their property is absolutely gorgeous, and very quiet, I spent a lot of time just sat outside enjoying the quiet, or looking at the stars at night. It's the perfect place to sit and reflect, and take time to simply be and enjoy life in the country. I stayed in my own room in a guest-house which had an adjoining bathroom and shower. The wifi doesn't go to the guest room, but that made it easier to really turn off and relax each night.

Staying with Sylvia & Jerome is my first Workaway and definitely a life changing experience! I got the chance to stay in South of France and experience the farmhouse lifestyle, helping with insulation project, horse feeding and a little bit of gardening. … read more names and understand you! Everyday I helped to clean the stables and feed the horses in morning and evening. Also, I miss Woody and Rio! Woody always likes to cuddle and good helper to pre-wash the plates while Rio always energetic, chasing for the toys. <3
During my stay, we worked together on room insulation and the result is satisfying. I still remember how Sylvia and Jerome classified the rubbish for recycle... a great practice learnt! Sylvia is a great gardener and good cook, I admire her knowledge about the plants and also her cooking. I love her Kimchi and spinach curry with tofu! She made the best prune pie. Yummy! Jerome likes metal detecting which is something new to me, an interesting hobby! They always share their life experiences with me.
The house compound is big with private swimming pool and gym room. I stayed in my own room with own spacious bathroom. I visited Agen few times when I was there. Jerome brought me to Sunday flea market and helped to bargain. I got myself the best souvenir from the flea market! Sometimes we watch TV together at night.

… read more worked, meaning I often worked a few hours in the morning and then again some during the evening. This also meant that I didn’t really have a whole day off but worked less on some of them.
They have really sweet animals and while I didn’t have a lot to do with the horses due to the heat you can spend hours playing with Rio, one of the dogs, or cuddling Woody, the other one, or even one of the cats.
It’s a very quiet place to be and absolutely beautiful. In the afternoon you can spend time at the pool or going for a walk in the forest.
I had a room and bathroom all to myself which was very nice. The Wi-Fi only works near the main house though.

Sylvia and Jerome were great hosts and made our first workaway a great experience. The work we did involved painting the house shutters, help with preparing meals and helping move in a new kitchen. My room was perfect. I had my own bedroom with a bathroom & toilet. The bed was comfy and even with high temperatures the room would stay nice and cool.
The horses are amazing. They are really sweet, gentle and they all have their own character. Of course, I can’t forget the dogs Río & Woody who are both lovely. Woody loves to cuddle and Río always wants to play with you.
Work I did included tasks like gardening, fun & creative projects around the farm and some painting. In the afternoon I was allowed to ride, work with the horses or I could enjoy the pool. On Sundays I joined Jerome to flea markets in the area which enabled me to explore the French culture.
