They are both keen nature lovers and they manage their property with the highest of ecological standard practices. I learned lots of good tips and tricks to flow with nature and allow Mother Earth to do her magic. Working alongside Marie-Antoinette didn't feel like work at all but more like accompanying a nature guru on her path to restore nature. It was a real blessing to have her share her knowledge with m!e and I am forever grateful! The work was by times quite physical, but I loved every minute of it! The meals were absolutely divine and I will miss them dearly and their sweet canine Piak, cats Hazel and Luna and all the cute chickens and roosters. I truly hope to welcome you both in Canada someday for a fun paddling adventure and more!
Dev and Joe were fantastic and laid-back guests who left a very positive impression. They treated their surroundings with respect and were always polite and friendly. We had the most wonderful first Workaway experience with Mark and Marie Antoinette (and Piak & the cats!). … read more and assisting in the garden/on the land. Their place is well located - in a quiet, peaceful area, but very easily explored by bike (which M and MA kindly lent).
With their recommendations in mind, on our days off we spent time in the nearby towns, and travelled to Utrecht (a short train ride away). The couple themselves are great - Marie Antoinette is kind and intelligent, and Mark funny and quick-witted. We had many interesting and informative conversations about politics, their lives, and Dutch culture. MA prepared delicious meals on working days, typically a soup with homemade bread and local cheese for lunch, and a traditional Dutch dinner. One small thing to note is that work was divided into 6h, not 8h days, as it says on their profile. But, of course, we very strongly recommend M and MA as Workaway hosts and genuinely thank them for a wonderful introduction to the Netherlands!Feedback

There are lots of smaller towns surrounding the dijke and M and MA had heaps of suggestions of activities to explore on days off as well as tips to get there. All in all, we would highly recommend this workaway for anyone who is willing to put in the work, if you're up for it M and MA will return your efforts 10-fold. I always has lots of questions and they are very patient in explaining to me (and even translated for me in Chinese as I also don't understand it in English > <)
Marie sent me detailed email with all the information needed, our work and accommodation arrangement(it is beautiful and cosy!) once we confirmed stay. The communication is always good, clear and fast. We planted trees (more than 120 trees!) during my stay, it could be physical demanding but also full of fun! Marie and Mark worked with us and always make sure we take rest and eat (and thank you sooooo much for all the delicious meals!) We ate together in our work days (and even some non-work days) and Marie is a great cook, she always prepared healthy and delicious Dutch food for us. Also all the amazing homemade bread, we had the chance to bake together and it was my first bake!
I also had the chance to meet Marie and Mark's friends, they are also very friendly and hospitable. I had my first experience in catching chicken and was shown how it was butchered (woah and ouch!). I was invited for dinner and we had some very interesting and inspiring talks.
I'm so happy with my stay and actually I didn't feel I am working there, but rather like a family retreat. I must thank Mark and Marie again for letting me stay (and stayed for the extra days even though they don't really need a workawayer), I enjoyed so much for the company (also from two affectionate kitten Luna and Hazel, the chickens, ducks and sheep). The days and hours of work are decided on the day of arrival and everything was well arranged. We stayed with them for two weeks and the tasks were digging and relocating some plants to their food-forest, weeding, cleaning the chicken coop and the work areas, some harvesting and lots of cuddles with their smart dog Piak and the beautiful kitten Luna.
Our accommodation was attached to the house and we had our own bedroom and kitchen and we used the bathroom in the main house. We had two bicycles available and we were able to visit the neighboring towns on our free days.
We loved our time with Mark and Marie Antoinette and we wish them all the best.

The accommodation was superb, really cosy and well equipped. We had the perfect balance of privacy and being close by our hosts for anything we needed.
Our favourite part of the workaway experience was definitely the aspect of cultural exchange. Mark and Marie-Antoinette went out of their way to help us in embracing rural Dutch life. They brought us on outings to explore the local area, and lent us bicycles so we could go by ourselves also. We had really interesting conversations, about Dutch vs Irish traditions, and we learned a lot! Also had a lot of laughs, they really are great company.

Our constatnt companion was their lovely border collie, Piak. We had a lot of fun with him. Always warming us up outside, running with brunches around the garden on the cold days. With a nice companions, we also had a lot of privacy and the room was really nice.
Our work was mostly cutting and collecting wood. We always worked with Mark or Marie and they always had a good tips for us. And of course really good tools and machines, which made our work easy and comfortable. Some of the branches we planted as new trees, which was also a nice experience. We hope we could come there again and help them with their tasks.
The farm is really amazing. It`s a beautiful place, where you can get excited about a nature and get relaxed.

The work we did included mainly gardening and chopping woods, which we really enjoyed doing. Moreover we were lucky to take care of the animals and Marie and Mark asked us to help with catching and marking small goats, which we had never done before and want to thank you for such an unusual and interesting task!
We lived in a big and comfortable shed with one bedroom, one living room on the second floor and a kitchen on the first floor, where we could cook our meals whenever we wanted to.

There is lots to see in the area, I used the bicycle to do sight seeing but trainstation to go to Utrecht or Amsterdam is also close by.
