Our large home is spread over an acreage & surrounded by acreage properties so it is a beautiful leafy & very safe neighbourhood to go for a walk or ride. Being located on the northern beaches of Cairns we are just a few minutes drive to our local beach Kewarra Beach which is a stunning palm tree lined beach with stinger nets (safe for swimming) & large undercover BBQ area. All major shopping at both Clifton Beach Shopping Centre & Smithfield Shopping Centre is also a 5 minute drive away.

Arbeit
Hi, we are looking for a single person or couple to assist us in our day to day running of our household. We are lucky enough to have a large 1 bedroom apartment on the ground floor of our home which is separate from our family home which is upstairs. We have 5 younger children (11 years old and under). So as you could imagine we have a busy household & are looking for help in the general upkeep of our house.
Previously we have operated 2 separate workaway bookings at the one time in our home. However we have changed this so that we only accept 1 workaway booking (1 person or 2 people travelling together). So you will be the only workaway guest here at our home. We find we have more of a chance to better connect with our guest if there is just 1 group staying with us at any one time.
Duties would involve assistance with domestic chores like washing, hanging out and putting away washing. General house cleaning i.e. windows, floors, bathrooms, gardening & also walk dog, help feed the chickens, gardening, wash cars, packing the kids school lunchbox's. There is always a few odd jobs here and there that need doing so if your handy on the tools even better. At dinner time either help with meal prep or homework with 1 of the 2 school kids would be greatly appreciated.
Our kids: 11 year old - Bella - eldest girl (full-time at school),
10 year old - Charlie - girl (full-time at school),
9 year old - Matthew - our only boy (full-time at school)
8 year old - Emerson - girl (full-time at school)
6 year old - Sienna - youngest girl (full-time at school)
Our kids are really well behaved & mostly well mannered and enjoy the different guests we have stay. They have an interest learning the different languages so feel free to teach them new words as you see them.
There is very limited support required with the kids they are quite capable and independent.But I will need to know if you are comfortable driving in Australia? Because I work Monday to Friday I have our Workaway guests drive my 12 seater bus (just a little longer than a standard van - normal license is ok) and collect the kids from school each afternoon as one of your jobs. The school is only 7 minutes drive from our home. My car is automatic & apart from it being bigger and longer than a van it’s rather easy to drive.
Though the week the kids will get home from school and start their homework then play in the yard. There will be times where you will just need to supervise them whilst just working thought a daily list of house cleaning jobs. Martial arts plays a big role in our life and the kids love it, dad is the only one that doesn't do it. The kids will always want to show you their new kicks they are learning & we have a dedicated training room setup downstairs for them to practice when they are not at the dojo. Through the week though collectively we do 12 martial arts lessons per week. It is rare all 5 kids are home at one time they have a busy weekly schedule. They are either at school or sport.
So there is a set list of standard house cleaning type chores if I have just the 1 Workaway guest & it’s the same duties every day. If I have 2 people stay then there will be additional things to do which may be washing the car or washing the dog or cleaning the ceiling fans. This list for the 2nd person will change daily. And it doesn’t bother me if you want to work separately or all together. I am flexible ☺️.
Someone that is good with kids is essential. Our helpers in the past have had fun with the kids in & baking, going for walks, doing fitness, learning new yoga moves, gardening, playing on the trampoline, riding bikes with them. And they love to learn new languages so please feel free to teach them because they are genuinely interested & have learnt a lot already from our lovely previous guests. Our eldest is fascinated with gymnastics & we have a big yard which is setup well to keep them busy. They love all this stuff it really makes them happy. We only want people who are prepared to interact with our kids & get involved with our kids & our family life.
Because of our young family we will not have any smoking or alcohol on the property, and definitely no drugs of any kind. We will also ask that there are no parties at our home because we are weary of what people are around our young kids.
If you like to cook or bake then that would be great also. It would be fantastic to have help with dinner preparation. If there is a special dish you would like to make then thats ok, I can collect the ingredients for you to make. We like to experience different cultures & different foods. And our kids are not picky at all, they eat almost anything.
We require you to work for a minimum of 4 hours per day (per person) with 1 day off/week (whichever day suits you) and in return you will have a main meal (dinner), large bedroom, own bathroom, free wifi, television with Netflix and we have an inground swimming pool as well. Your living quarters is a large massive & bedroom is air-conditioned has a large TV setup with Netflix & your personal fridge & due to its location has direct access to the swimming pool. Your room is located on the ground floor & all of the family bedrooms & bathroom & living area is upstairs so its very separate & private. As a house rule with our kids are not allowed in your area or your bathroom. So its your own private area away from the main house.
In your living area there is no cooking facilities just the fridge, microwave, tea & coffee facilities however your welcome to have access to our family kitchen upstairs. On our large yard there is also a fire pit so of a night your most welcome to light the fire & get out the marshmallows. We also have 2 huge coconut trees absolutely loaded with coconuts, we can show you how to open a coconut & you can eat as many as you want. There is also a few other fruit frees on the property for you to check out.
We also have 1 German Sheppard dog that loves to go for a walk and she also understands basic commands in French and German! And we currently have 12 free range very friendly pet chickens Peaches, Angel, Frazer, Ding Ding, McKenzie, Cookies & Cream, Henrietta, Tjapukai, Mango, Galaxy, Milky Way & Black Hole. And we also have a spoiled rotten pet cat Miss Cara she is black & fluffy & loves a chat. Miss Cara has her 2 kids (the fat one and the skinny one) Wednesday & Pugsley so we have a cat family of 3 that live with us. Wednesday is very cute, Pugsley is a massive chunky smoochy cat she is shy to start but when she gets to know you she will want smooches all of the time. We appreciate people who genuinely have a love for animals & are happy to give the dog a bath just because you love dogs. We are lucky to be located within a ride from the most popular beaches in Cairns (Kewarra Beach, Palm Cove, Trinity Beach, Clifton Beach) so you can spend some time on the beach amongst the palm trees on your time off.
We also have bicycles you can have access to for your convenience if you would like to go for an explore at your own leisure. Only 5 minute bike ride will take you to a park full of wallabies (mini kangaroos) so you can take some photos many tourist buses stop here on their way to Port Douglas, and its just in our local suburb up the road. If you don't have a car we frequently do driving everywhere so your welcome to catch a ride with us.
Our area is THE place to be if you like going for a bike ride. Probably the best bike ride spot in all of Cairns is just down the road from us. Newly completed big beautiful shaded bike bath that runs adjacent to the beach all the way from Kewarra Beach to Palm Cove right alongside the ocean. An absolute must do while you stay with us its stunning.
For people who loves hiking through the rainforest there are many mountain tracks which you can check out, some have rainforest streams & waterfalls to swim in also. All fitness levels are close from very easy to super hard & are very close to our house being just a 5 minute bike ride to the closest huge rainforest mountain.
The type of person or people we are looking for is a fun, energetic person who is friendly & bubbly. Must be good with kids & happy to hang out with the kids & pets.
