Jennifer and Kent are really generous and thoughtful persons. The stay included also meals which were beyond great. Every dinner was a little celebration for me. Also we went out for dinner and Jennifer went to the supermarket to get coffee the first day (because I can’t go without).

This was my first time doing Workaway in the US, and also my first time doing a work exchange in an urban setting, and I can honestly say it was an excellent experience. Murat stayed with us for 10 days and it was a joy to have him in our home and we welcomed him back for anytime he wanted to stay with us in the future. When he arrived my husband was preparing for a camping trip involving a ceremony and Murat jumped in and helped with packing and preparations. He went way beyond what I would have expected having

He was here the entire week with my teen daughter and I and he was so respectful that i had no concerns and felt better he was in this big house with us. He watched our home while we were gone for 3 1/2 days. The dog LOVED him almost as much as we did which was surprising since she is a rescue and a little cautious. He also took care of the cat and chickens. The day he left, he vacuumed his room, changed the sheets on the bed and cleaned the bathroom. That is a first and we have had LOTS of Workaway folks in our home. His family owns a "fairy chimney" hotel in central Turkey and he clearly is used to jumping in and helping with whatever jobs need done. His maturity exceeds his age in years for sure! We loved the cross cultural discussions and hope to see him again here or in Turkey!
Vom Host für Workawayer (Jerome & Rachel)
Jerome and Rachel spent two lovely weeks at our home! We found them to be enthusiastic learners and a great working team. They re-painted the 22 columns on the front porch and they look beautiful! They painted bedroom woodwork as well as the ceiling and it looks FANTASTIC! They did a variety of other jobs--garden weeding, mowed the yard,

They will be missed!
Vom Host für Workawayer (Ramon )
Ramon stayed with us for about two weeks and we enjoyed his humor, smile and diligence in whatever he took on. He did a variety of things for us from yard work, prep sanding, cleaning, raking and mowing and playing with the dog, and lots of other things I am forgetting! But he was willing and enthusiastic. He watched the house for the weekend

I was disappointed that we didn't take advantage of his photography skills (he is a great photographer) and we didn't get to painting due to the busyness of the school year starting. Ramon is a trustworthy, conscientious man in his manner and work and we enjoyed having him here.

David stayed with us for 3 weeks and it was a pleasure to have him in our home. He has a gracious, kind, and honest nature. He was flexible with our ever-changing home projects and worked hard at whatever he was doing that day. He is very detail oriented and precise. He improved on a gate design my husband had planned to keep the chickens

He made a landscape design map for us of our house and property to help us with planning our back yard. He had great ideas and worked with us in clarifying our vision of patio and sunken garden. He also helped us with interior design and has an eye for color and space design. He also taught me how to make a huge beautiful appetizer tray which was the hit of a party! He dug a trench for a low retaining brick wall and helped us clip and recycle lots of yard debris. He also helped in the house with general cleaning and organizing drawers. His English is very fluent and he is constantly works to improve and expand his skills. He is an excellent teacher of Spanish for anyone who wants to practice. I think where ever David goes from here, any host will appreciate the ease of being with him, his organizational and design skills, and his integrity. He is welcome at our home anytime!
Vom Host für Workawayer (Doug)
We so appreciated Doug's help with so many things. When it came to the kitchen, he was baking bread or making blueberry sourdough pancakes from a family recipe, cooking dinner, and fermenting kefir, kombucha, and labne! My daughter enjoyed talking with him about books and she enjoyed teaching him about his iPhone. Doug is energetic and takes on projects with enthusiasm and determination. We look forward to him coming back...soon!

I stayed in this household for about five weeks and without undue hyperbole I've gotta say that this stay was in the top five of all my Workaway ventures. There were a variety of ongoing projects as the house, built at the turn of the century, is a work in progress and there is always some new direction, correction or just improvement to the
… read more grounds. It's all DIY.
Usual jobs included for me: making kombucha, water Keffir and baking bread, cooking in general, mowing the lawn, pruning trees, chain-saw work as needed and helping with weeding, watering and planting the raised bed garden. For Portland there is a rather large yard area and the often beautiful enclosed porch -- which is great to protect one from rain and just hanging out, drinking tea and watching Luna, the dog protect the property by yelping at passing bicyclist, walkers and strollers.
This is one busy household! I loved the energy but there is a focus and unlike the tv series Portlandia, clear set boundaries and expectations. The family is flexible, however, and events can turn on a dime. So, be one your toes and enjoy the ride.
A real plus for me was the nearby bus and rail routes that are within walking distance. The Alberta street art district is a short 9 minute ride on bus 72 and there's a great meditation center, Barista Coffee, ice cream parlors and galleries -- check out 'Antler', a great Liege style waffle joint and music up the ying yang, esp. on the weekends.
So, obviously, I'm sold on the place. Hated to leave when the time was up but I shall return, as some general once said. Thanks for such a great all around experience -- this stay reminded me why I first started traveling way back in 'the day'. Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

Marc fit into our home like one of the family! He was flexible with the various projects we had going that morphed over time. Jennifer and Kent are very understanding and caring. During my stay in portland I also did an internship with an NGO that works in prisons in Oregon. They let me do my work away hours in a schedule that allowed me to do my internship as well. Moreover, living with them really helped me connect to Portland, and feel part of a community. I really appreciate how welcoming and supportive they are.
I recommend staying with Jennifer and Kent, I learned a lot from them, both about practical skills, and about life! I miss them, and I hope I will see them again!!
