Rik and Fiona are incredibly warm and kind-hearted people, spreading positive energy. They always had a smile on their faces and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we could possibly need. They even helped us discover great local spots for excursions and hikes—thank you so much for that!
The accommodation feels more like a hotel. As Workawayer, you’ll have a private apartment with a spacious shower, a well-equipped kitchen, and a large, cozy bed. Everything was spotlessly clean, and it was such a lovely space to relax after work or in the evenings.
The area is absolutely stunning, with both the beach and the mountains just a 20–30 minute drive away. Even if you don’t have your own transport, there are beautiful walks to enjoy right around the property. And don’t forget to take the sweet dog, Pien, along—she’s always up for a nice, long walk.
Overall, we are so grateful for this amazing experience, the many tips and ideas, and the chance to meet such inspiring, kind, and positive people like Fiona and Rik. We wish you the best of luck with your project and hope the pool will be ready in time for the birthday party! 😊

Leon and I got to spend 2 wonderful weeks with Rik, Fiona and Loek.
In this time I have painted the walls of the tinyhouse and prepared the food.
The Tinyhouse looks already super cool and I'm excited to see how it will look like when it's finished.
Loek and I have become buddies. He is super adorable and so smart for his age. We've baked

Rik and Fiona are both very uncomplicated and full of positive energy. You can tell that they put they hearts into their projects. Rik taught me that you can learn almost anything and that most things in life are not that difficult once you get the hang of it. I felt really inspired by them to realize my own dreams and to think outside the box.

… read more very good time together, having good talks, going climbing together or just enjoying the sun in our free time. The apartment for the workawayers has everything one needs and more. Lisa & Isa are awesome, funny and full of energy! They spend 2 weeks with us helping around with all kind of work. Most of it was painting and repairing the foundation of the house. They worked their asses off and they are really strong. Lifting and mixing the 25kg bags of concrete was no problemo :)

… read more loads of fun together. They are easy going and they really fit in our family life. Loek (our 5y old son) was in complete love with Lisa haha.
Lisa and Isa are 2 women that you can trust and they are 2 real German powerhouses!! We absolute recommend them staying & working with you.

We spent 2 weeks in the little paradise from Rik, Fiona, Loek and little Pien 🐶 near La Nucia.
Rik, Fiona and Loek are very lovely and open hearted! We lifed together like a big family. We felt so comfortable!

Loek is a open hearted, very cute young boy! He knows how to communicate with the body language because he only speaks dutch and we do not. It's very easy to get in contact with him. Playing with him was always fun and such a good time! 🤗
We had to work 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, weekend off. We painted a long wall outside and some of the ballustrades. We also repaired/rebuild a long wall with rocks and concrete.
Quite hard work but Rik is always around if help is needed!
If you have the chance to stay with this lovely dutch family, take it! 😁

Pablo and Kami are the greatest guests to have as workawayers. They are helpful, kind and just really nice people to have around. … read more puppy. They played with our kid, helped cooking and were never hesitant to ask if they could do anything else. We had such a nice time with them. It feels so good to have people over that don´t only help you around the house, but that you really trust, have fun with (a lot of nice conversations, making music, playing games and having a laugh) also build a strong connection with. Pablo & Kami are always welcome in our house.

Staying with Rick, Fiona, their son Loek and puppy Pien was the best start of our adventure we could have asked for. Even though we were staying for only 2 weeks, we immediately felt like part of the family and were enjoying free time with them as well. We had our own private cozy and very spacious room with a kitchen (including a brand new toaster and coffee machine) and our own bathroom. Our fridge always had enough food for breakfast and snacks and each time we needed something, Fiona was so kind to get it for us when she went shopping. Fiona is a wonderful cook and every day we would have lunches and dinners together.
There is a cool swimming pool just next to the room that was available to us anytime we wanted. Whenever we needed to get to town to do some personal things or explore the area, Rick was helpful with getting us a ride.
We felt very blessed throughout our time here and Pablo received a weekly session of coaching for his business with Fiona, who is an expert coach with a very kind heart and spirit wanting to help.
The job was mostly working on the land with Rick and around the house starting early mornings. It can be hard work, but with Rick's instructions it is manageable for almost anybody. He has a lot of experience in construction. It is also very rewarding as you can see quickly how the changes are made on the land and how it turns more beautiful every day.
Some of the work we did, included pruning trees, demolition, taking down fences, preparing garden beds and overall maintenance around the land and house and even babysitting their son Loek and his friends when they came for a play date, which was great fun!
Apart from that, it is naturally expected that you take care of cleaning your room and help out with other things like setting the table for lunch and dinner and help with dishes after eating. Couple of times a week we also cooked dinner for everybody.
To sum it up, it was a great pleasure to be the first workaway volunteers of Rick and Fiona and we will remember this experience forever. We are hoping to have the opportunity to come back some time in the future and see how the place have changed.
Even though the work can be hard and demanding, it is so worth it, thanks to all the advantages you have here, like the wonderful food, incredible views on the surrounding mountains, afternoon chill and relax at the swimming pool, playing some games with the family in the evenings or you can use your free time for your business if you are a digital nomad.
