Me and Emma had a wonderful 12 day stay with Stacey and her family. This was our first time ever using workaway and she shared a lot of experiences with us about her life, Australia and the workawayers she's had. The food was abundant and generally pretty delicious and the work (usually between 3-4 hours a day) was easy and not scheduled too tightly. After the work, Stacey often took us and the kids on trips to show and teach us about the area and the beautiful nature surrounding her home. If you love nature and/or birds, this host is a big recommendation! The only thing to be mindful of, is the kids. They are both VERY loud, and it can get quite intense sometimes. If you prefer quietness, it is something to keep in mind. At the same time, they're also really funny and smart, so it didn't affect our stay too much. Also Kevin the dog is great and cuddly and we will definitely miss him Overall a great experience, would recommend!

Alexandra is a delight to host and made friends quickly with our group of 7, and is a naturally appreciative person. Alex works well in a team, as well as independently, and is always open, friendly and helpful. Alex was very generous with her time, and always willing to learn new skills. Around our meal times, Alex was easy to cater for and quick to help with washing up and keeping our communal spaces clean and tidy. The work Alex did included weeding, trimming back native plants, placing mulch onto gardens, planting, trail building, marking trail with safety markers, nursery work including washing trays, plant propagation & potting plants. Thank you for being such a happy easy-going person, and know you are welcome back anytime. xx Nige & Mish

Raphaël is a strong young man, eager to learn new things and help wherever he can. His English is improving rapidly, and he loves to socialise locally. Raphaël was a great help, and we would have loved to have him for longer. He can cook, and he is a tidy person. He loves to eat mountains of Vegetables ;) We thank him a lot for his help and wish him a great time for the last weeks he will spend in Ireland during his trip. All the best from everybody

Kezia stayed with us for just two short weeks, but in that time she became such an important part of our family. She is incredibly child-friendly and spent countless hours playing with my kids, always patient, kind, and full of energy. The children absolutely fell in love with her and still talk about the fun games and moments they shared. Kezia has a natural gift for connecting with little ones. She makes them feel safe, happy, and cared for. Her creativity and warmth shone through in everything she did, and it was such a joy to see how much she genuinely enjoyed being with the kids. Around the house she was always easygoing, respectful, and considerate, making her presence truly delightful. Even though her stay was brief, she left a lasting impression and filled our home with laughter. We feel very lucky to have hosted Kezia and would warmly recommend her to any family, especially those with children. She is an absolute treasure, and we hope our paths cross again someday!

Was great to have stayed with Roberto and Tiziana. I felt welcomed like a family member and was given he opportunity to take on new and interesting tasks, and learn some very valuable skills in the process. I never went hungry as Tiziana kindly filled my plate with great food at meal times. During work Roberto was generous with his tools and allowed for autonomy. I met some very lovely travellers. We had some good laughs around the dinner table in the evenings. The experience was quite a challenge at times - living with people from different cultures - but I learned a great deal about myself. I was very inspired by the hosts commitment to using natural materials in their projects.

Alright... Difficult to summarise an entire month of wonders, experiences, landscapes and connections into just a few lines, but I'm gonna try, and actually, I can do it into just one : There should be a 6 stars out of 5 rating on the platform, and this workaway experience, this place, this family would just immediately get it. It was just absolutely lovely, from the accommodation to the food, from the tasks I was given to the nature, from the talks to the readings, from the village to the beach, and from the Festival to the lonely sauna sessions. I was incredibly nicely welcomed even though with the festival being prepared everyone was rushed and busy. I learned so much (and think I might have taught a bit as well in return) It just seemed fitting, all of it, for a month... Can't say it was life changing because it felt more like it was perfectly where and when I needed to be. Petter and Kristine are just brilliant people, and their children just as much. (The poneys and cats as well but some people might find them harder to have conversations with ...) I will go back there's no doubt about it, and I even have a pretty good idea on the the dates already. So many thanks ! ALSO !!! I held a Kite whilst facing the gods of the sea and winds ( feeling so safe because of Petter) and now I'm addicted !

The experience was truly beautiful. The hostel is an incredible place, not only as a hostel, but as a space for exchange, solidarity, camaraderie, and a sense of community. I really enjoyed sharing work with my colleagues and those leading this project. I thought the profile description was very accurate with the actual experience I had there. As for work, they have a super organized and conscientious approach to dividing tasks and the desire to work on a particular task. I was assigned to cover kitchen shifts for breakfast and dinner. I had all kinds of food, utensils, and other necessities at my disposal, in a super-equipped workspace. The cultural exchange was also extremely interesting, both in terms of languages and travel experiences, both for volunteers and guests. The facilities were super comfortable, designed with love and practicality. Everything worked very well, and there were plenty of spaces to share and enjoy solitude. There were many beautiful places to explore around the hostel. Thank you so much for welcoming me with so much love and respect and for keeping such a magical place alive, full of good energy. I'm sure we'll see each other again! A huge hug to each of you, especially to Aurora and Coco.

This was my first work away experience, and the bar has been set so high for any others I go to! Mike, Anja and the family make every effort to help volunteers to feel at home, learn, grow and have fun. I stayed at the farm for 5 weeks, and I am already counting down the days until I'm able to return. During my time at the farm, I learnt so much - from how to make a great sourdough bread, learning how to play volleyball, experiencing Canadian (and international) culture and history, and learning about harvesting, growing, and everything that goes into organic vegetable farming. I met amazing people, some of which quickly became close friends who I hope to keep for life. The work-life balance is really great, working in the mornings and having all afternoon off to float down the river, rock climb at Skaha, shop vintage in Penticton, head to the local winery or play volleyball. Mike and Anja go above and beyond to give volunteers a great experience in the Okanagan - organising events and trips out for all the volunteers. I was lucky enough to be there for the Farm Olympics, cocktail competition night, Rock Creek Fair and a local open mic night. I couldn't recommend volunteering at the farm enough, it's one of the best things I've ever done and 5 weeks was nowhere near long enough!

I loved Hannah and Duncan's place! This was my first Workaway, and I'm so glad I chose them for my first experience. I stayed there for 3 weeks in February 2025. The work was hard at times, but it made me stronger (both physically and mentally). Also, some days the work was more chill, so it balanced out the more labor-intensive days. I really appreciated that they stayed true to the hours we agreed on, and if it rained or if something else came up, they were willing to give us a day off and make up the hours later. The flexibility was really appreciated. They were also very mindful of mealtimes and made sure we had little snack breaks during our shifts. It was clear they cared about our well-being and wanted us to enjoy the experience. There was something magical about their place. Even though the nights got very cold when I was there in February, I loved sleeping in the dome (the hot water bottles they provided really helped), learning to let go of my fear of insects (especially spiders), and waking up to watch the sunrise. I learned so much about what it takes to live off-grid and the visions that Hannah and Duncan have, which are very inspiring. Hannah’s cooking was absolutely incredible, and I really appreciated how they accommodated my being vegan. I also respected the fact that they don’t support factory farming and, therefore, all the food provided was vegetarian. On top of that, I loved how much I was able to experience the surrounding community: joining Hannah and the volunteers for yoga once a week, visiting the local market, and even going to two parties over the weekend that were so much fun. Dancing under the stars with other like-minded people was unforgettable. And I very much enjoyed all the fun games we'd play together in the evenings (even though I lost a lot of them, hahaha). At first I found it a bit challenging not having compost toilets, but it got easier after the first week or so, and even that helped me appreciate the little conveniences in life and made me a stronger person. I know they are working toward adding compost toilets in the future, which will make the experience even better. This is a very unique experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to connect with nature and give back to an inspiring project. Thank you, Hannah and Duncan, for hosting me. I hope to be back someday!

I spent 3 months volunteering at the hostel and had such a great time, it was hard to leave! I worked at reception and enjoyed the variety of tasks, including preparing breakfast for guests, checking people in and out, and offering suggestions for things to see and do in Tirana. Overall, the vibe here was easy-going, and the other volunteers were all super friendly. I ended up making some great friends here and would 100% return. Kris and Ilir are amazing hosts and made the whole experience really awesome! I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a fun volunteer experience.

We were extremely impressed by the wealth of life experience and skills that Gwyn brought to our place. In particular, we noticed his high level of flexibility and resilience in dealing with difficult conditions, such as adverse weather and limited spatial and social opportunities. The deep sense of calm that Gwyn radiates and his zest for life are an inspiration and role model for us. Getting to know Gwyn has been a great enrichment for us! :-)

Dear Diana, I just wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful 3.5 weeks I spent with you. Our time together was truly special! I loved interacting with all the dogs, each one so friendly and well socialized, reflecting the wonderful care and love you give them. You are an incredibly strong woman with a big heart, and I admire your dedication to your project. It’s evident that you have amazing ideas and a passion for what you do, I wish for you to continue welcoming many great people who can be part of this journey with you. One of the highlights for me was our trip to the mountains, enjoying a lovely hike with the dogs. Those moments were unforgettable, and I'm so grateful to have experienced them with you and your furry friends. Thank you once again for everything, Diana. I feel lucky to have met both you and your adorable companions! Warmest wishes, Jana

I stayed with Gwenn for about a week and a half, and even though it was short, it was absolutely wonderful! I felt truly included by the whole family. I got along with all the daughters, and the grandchildren were super adorable !! The house has a lively, inviting atmosphere and is largely run by women, which I really loved! Gwenn is a true powerhouse, managing so many things at once, while still making sure everything runs smoothly and you feel completely welcome. She is thoughtful, communicative, and generous, always making you feel comfortable. Every day is different, flexible and relaxed, which I loved. The property is beautiful, with chickens, horses, and a small forest nearby. On the days she wasn’t working from home, Gwenn took me along to Ottawa, which was such a nice bonus. It’s a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature, while still having the opportunity to explore the city. I would happily come back anytime! :)

We originally invited Jen and Colin to visit for long weekend, with no particular expectations of working. However they like to keep busy, like to try new things, and have a strong work ethic. They ended up accomplishing far more than we would have asked for. They did light carpentry, hardening our home for a wildfire mitigation inspection. They also did quite a bit of firewood processing. They work competently without supervision, given general instructions. They plan their work intelligently, and are conscientious, skilled and thoughtful. Jen and Colin work extremely well together, complimenting each other’s skills and inclinations. Jen is fascinated by power tools. I introduced her to a variety of new (to her) pneumatic tools and she wanted me to provide her with construction tasks to practice until she felt she had mastered the tool. That worked out very well for me. Jen is slightly obsessive about neatness and detail. (I blame her training in astrophysics, where an error of 1 part in a million is an unacceptably huge error.) Jen was patient and committed to making sure that all joints were tight, all margins were uniform, and all nail lines were straight and equidistant. She would make a good cabinetmaker or an excellent finish carpenter, if she ever wants a second career. (I fear she is too meticulous to become a good framing carpenter.) The 32 ton hydraulic log splitter was also a huge hit. Jen and Colin had never used one before, and asked if they could practice with it. I had a pile of log rounds, including a couple dozen 30+” rounds that weighed 100 pounds or more. I showed them how to change the ram and anvil orientation from horizontal to vertical to accommodate the large rounds. They happily worked all afternoon, asking us to delay dinner so they could finish the pile. They came in tired, and smug and very satisfied with themselves. Once again, it worked out well for me. One afternoon, Jen and Colin helped me collect several truckloads of logs from a neighbor’s lot. We drove a mile or so on dirt roads, and collected several thousand pounds of limbed logs from a wildfire mitigation site on the mountain side. At home, the logs had to loaded off the truck, and stacked uphill for further processing. It was several hours of hard physical labor. They seemed pleased with the afternoon, and I was also. Jennifer walked the dog several times a day which freed me up to keep working and pleased the dog immensely. Jen also gave us valuable and insightful coaching for working with our new rescue dog. Once again, a huge help. In addition to helping with outdoor carpentry and firewood projects, Colin was a huge help with preparing meals. Particularly useful is his ability to forage in the ‘fridge and pantry for leftovers and “odds & ends” and turn them into attractive tasty side dishes that complemented whatever we had prepared for dinner. Colin was courteous, patient, resourceful and cheerful while working side by side with a stranger in a cramped galley kitchen, with a limited and eccentric selection of tools and supplies. Jen and Colin were a pleasure to have with us. They are welcome back anytime.

It seems almost impossible to give a feedback that is accurate to such a awesome place! We loved our stay at Hugo's and had the most amazing time! The place is surrounded by beautiful nature that you can enjoy all day long, the direct access to the lake gives you the perfect refreshment after work and the tranquility and silence invites to just chill and be calm. The food we cooked was out of this world because we literally had everything that we needed! It invites you to be creative, you should definitely try to make homemade pasta and bread when you visit this place! Hugo picks up groceries every weekend so we really couldn't complain about anything missing! Also, the kitchen view is stunning! Hugo as a person is somebody we really can call a friend now! He is awesome and we are so happy that we met him before he went to travel. He keeps the tasks really really clear, you always know what to do and in general he is just a cool and loving guy! We already miss the cat and the dogs as they are your almost 24/7 companion at this place! Most of the work we did was weeding, sometimes planting seeds and dragon fruit or work with the machete. All in all super doable works where you can really see progress and a big difference! Enrique, who is meanwhile in charge is also just a awesome human being! Hugo definitely did good in chosing him as a guardian! Hugo, we wish you aaaall the best in this world, that you keep growing a million dragon fruits and eat kaaspatzln every now and than! Much love, Matthias and Lara
