I had a great stay at the Hanger in Hastings. Sean and the Labrador Rata are amazing hosts. Rata is the best Alarm clock in the mornings (she might break into your room and wake you up :) ). Sean has many interestings projects going on and a lot to teach. So if you are looking not only for a free stay, but actually learning thats the right place for you. During my stay for example he taught me some stuff about beer brewing. He also helped me out with some work on my car. If I come back to New Zealand I will definitely be back to visit Sean as well!

Emily has been an excellent volunteer. She spent a week helping my parents at the farm with different activities and always with a good actitude and mood. She got used to the local life style and culture easily and always with a good energy despite the language barrier. I totally reccomend to accept Emily as volunteer, 100%!! She is a great girl!! Thanks Emily for your help and good luck in your adventure in Southamerica.

Best hostel in Japan and it’s not just my opinion! This place truly felt like home. I loved every single minute I spent there and feel so lucky to have met Azusa-san and all the other amazing staff. The work was easygoing, and I was able to keep up with my remote job while still having plenty of time to explore Sendai and all the beautiful spots around it. Thank you for making my time in Japan unforgettable. I really hope to come back one day and visit again!!

We had the absolute best time in Clare's beautiful cottage! 🌻 Clare and her partner Tony were super welcoming and they made us feel at home right away. We learnt so much about plant and vegetable growing and the actual maintenance of a 3 acre lifestyle block. No day looked like the one before, as our tasks were super varied as well. Clare made sure that there were other workawayers around whilst we were there, so we had the best time with Hasuki from Japan and later Victor and Emma from Denmark. Also, the food was amazing with Clare baking and making delicious Kiwi treats for us all the time!! All in all an 11/10, we cannot wait to come back! 🥰

Marco is an extremely interesting person, with an inspiring and alternative lifestyle, and the meadow where he lives is truly a paradise, away from the hustle and bustle of today's civilization. I'm very thankful for having had the opportunity to get to know him and the two weeks spent there. Our conversations gave me a lot of food for thought, so much that they inspired several articles which I'm working on at the moment (regarding topics such as mindfulness, nutrition, living without money, etc.). The so-called "Woofers Hut" is super cozy and feels like you're sleeping directly in the nature. I was excited to go to bed everyday and open my ears to hear what the nature had to say :) Moreover, there's many forests in the surroundings, which can be explored with the bikes available for workawayers (or "Woofers", as he likes to call us :). Regarding food: caring for my protein intake, he provided me with yummy eggs from one of his neighbours for breakfast, and the vegetables picked from the garden for dinner were delicious. A couple of evenings I was lucky to enjoy a bit of Marlies' cooking skills, which was very nice as well. All in all, I can completely recommend anyone considering volunteering at Marco's place to do it. P.S.: Give Dobby a hug! ;)

Amy, Derek, and Dave were absolutely fantastic! We had an amazing six-week experience with them, during which we learned so many things , from taking care of the animals to discovering Canadian culture. They were incredibly kind and welcoming, and allowed us to explore the area and truly feel at home. As our very first Workaway experience, we couldn’t have asked for anything better. We want to thank them deeply for giving us the chance to live something that will stay in our memories for a lifetime. It would take too long to describe all the wonderful things we did together , from building fences, feeding the animals, driving tractors, and even gold panning, to many other fun and meaningful activities. Every day was a new adventure! Thank you so much, Amy, Derek, and Dave, for everything you did for us ❤️ And sorry for the delay in writing this feedback and we’ll never forget our time with you!

Hervé and William are two of the best volunteers we've ever had. Hervé took over the bilingual guided tours and construction, while doing ebike rentals, scooter tours and shifts at the reception. William did electricity, carpentry and bike maintenance whenever it was needed. Hervé and William are extremely friendly and happiness driven, they always made sure people enjoy their company and make the most out of their time on the island. They have stayed for 2 seasons with us already, we would host them any time in the future. Vive la republique!!!

I had great time with Jeanne and Mathieu, learned how to bake sourdough bread 🍞. I was also picking vegetables from the garden, transforming them and did some gardening as well. They wanted me to have a great time discovering the area nearby : I had several rides to great beaches or even towns close by. I helped them in the house as well, watching their child or playing with their beautiful dog 🐕 :) Would recommend !

This review is long overdue but highly warranted! :D I stayed with Brenda and Gary in the fall of 2024 and it was a fantastic experience. They are incredibly kind and hospitable, which made the stay very comfortable. They are very considerate and will consult with you if there are any changes to the accommodations (ie additional guests). The guest room and bathroom are beautiful, spacious and private spaces. The neighborhood is also beautiful and within close proximity to public transit/the Go Train. The work wasn't demanding but still very fulfilling and fun. I was there from October to mid-December and my main duties were raking leaves, minor repairs, gardening/landscaping, mowing and cleaning. Brenda is a pleasure to work with and she makes you feel empowered. She taught me to use some power tools and gave me the confidence to handle minor repairs! The schedule is very flexible. Overall my stay was very enjoyable and I learned a lot! I'm immensely grateful to Brenda and Gary for their hospitality and guidance!

Malin and Kielan stayed with me for a bit over a week and we're just amazing! So much fun and so easy to get along with. I absolutely enjoyed their company and all the laughs and their happy personalities and interactions. Kielan was super great to have helping around the property in all areas of outdoor maintenance. He has experience helping on the land from childhood, and it was so great for me to just give him the tools and machinery and say please do this and know it would be done well, without problems, nothing being broken and everything would be cleaned and tidy at the finish of the task. He even trouble shooted some issues with a borrowed mulcher on his own accord. And is a super weeder! Malin is so fun and bubbly to have around, a real ray of sunshine. She helped me with cleaning the house inside and out, and did some great weeding all around the gardens, and also groomed the horses beautifully. They both cooked some great meals from their countries, And helped keep the house clean and tidy with all of us here. I would highly recommend them to anyone and am looking forward to them coming back soon 😊

Julie is a wonderful workaway host, I would recommend her to anyone! She was very kind and made me feel at home right away. I really enjoyed getting to know her and having dinners together or playing cards at night. Overall a really welcoming person! The work was mostly outdoors in the garden and groves, as well as some admin/organizational work. Julie is very thoughtful about the work she gives you: clear instructions, reasonable expectations, and thinks about what tasks will suit your strengths. The property itself is beautiful, I loved swimming in the pool and getting oranges from the trees. I particularly miss Ellie, Julie’s sweet older dog. As far as the area, I loved exploring Algodonales and nearby towns like Ronda and Sevilla! It’s a great place to be. If you have the chance to stay with Julie, take it! I had a great experience and would highly recommend.

We absolutely loved having Gigi here!! He was a pleasure to host and would HIGHLY recommend to others. Gigi was able to help in all aspects of farm and home life. He is hands on, very practical, great with tools and very hard working. Nothing was too much trouble. He fitted in wonderfully with our family and we all enjoyed spending time with him. He was very kind to our animals (especially our new rescue dog) ❤️ who is rather bouncy. Would welcome him back anytime. Thanks for all your great work Gigi!!

Emma and Victor stayed with me for 6 days and helped me around the house, paddocks, and gardens. While they had not much gardening experience they were happy to give everything a go. They are really lovely people and I enjoyed chatting with them about their lives in Denmark and the different adventures they have been on. I also really enjoyed how they were interested in all the native plants and birds around my property and it was a pleasure to show them around and share what I know with them. They are great cooks and made some delicious meals for us all while they were here. And they were great at jumping in and helping with washing dishes and keeping the kitchen and dining areas clean without having to be asked. I would recommend them to anyone as lovely people, and willing helpers.

Heather was a real pleasure to have here. She’s kind, easygoing, and always willing to help out with a smile. She fit right in, was curious about the wildlife and life here, and brought great energy to every day. I’d happily host her again anytime! Good luck Heather for all your planned adventures.

We were very pleased that we were welcome at Marie-Aline and Christophe & their lovely children, for a relatively short workaway stay. They obviously were expererienced in hosting 'woofers' and that made it easy to feel at home. We did all sorts of DIY jobs and it was nice to work outside . We come from Holland and when the weather is good, we like to enjoy the sun and fresh air. The time we spend with you as a family was easy going and there was flexibility. We could be ourselves and besides that, there was time for reflection and fun. We enjoyed the shoe museum and Mary-Aline gave us plenty of suggestions of nice places to visit in the surroundings. We would highly recommend this workaway experience to those who love to be real and use their skills well.

I stayed in the place for a month, and just like all the reviews said, it’s truly a safe and free space where you can just be yourself and easily connect with other volunteers. There’s no judgment here, everyone is unique and considerate in their own way. Besides the daily tasks (which are slightly different every day and open for you to choose from), the rest of the time is really flexible. Sometimes people hang out together, sometimes we all just do our own thing. You can always choose to join the group or enjoy some quiet time by yourself. There’s never any pressure to be someone you’re not. Of course, living with more than ten people at the same time can be intense sometimes, but everyone here kinda shares the same vibe , they’re chill, thoughtful, and the energy of the place shifts naturally as people come and go. Some days are lively and full of laughter, other days feel calm and grounding, giving everyone time to rest and recharge. My biggest takeaway from here, apart from all the happy moments with the team and the dogs, was the time I spent reflecting on myself. Being part of a community like this lets you see how dynamics constantly flow, sometimes you give, sometimes you receive, sometimes you lead, sometimes you rest. This place gave me not just beautiful memories but also a space to see myself more clearly in the mirror of connection, warmth, and joy. A big thank you to everyone I met here, and to Raul , you’re such a visionary, a great listener, and an open-minded soul who created this loving and inclusive space. Thank you for everything this past month, and I really hope we’ll meet again someday.

This place truly felt like a gift to me—calming energy with a touch of magic from the little lights in the old trees. I really appreciated the clear and honest communication and the heartwarming atmosphere made me feel welcome from the start. Mevanya was working a lot, so I had time to connect with two lovely Workawayers, but still it was a pleasure to meet her. I enjoyed to cut wood, paint and eat Mevanya's delicious & nourishing meals. I left inspired and more connected so I would definitely recommend this very kind place.

Stay with Brahim was beautiful experience. He and his family had welcomed us so openly into their house. Thanks to Naima we've had delicious meals all together. It was very enjoyable to spend the time with family and get to know more about their lives. Job was also very enjoyable especially when you know it's important for Brahim and you can support something he is truly passionate about! He is great guide! I recommend for all volunteers to take a tour with Brahim, it was very special, he takes great care of you and is great friend to be with! Thank you !

My experience at the retreat center was what one could only call magic! The communication prior to arrival with Floris was thoughtful and comprehensive, I felt well equipped with information and what would be expected of me as a volunteer. The place is nestled in the rugged, mountainous village of Órgiva. The land is special, full of beautiful nooks to spend time in. Floris, Paulina and their gorgeous little girl Amba are a kind and compassionate family. I loved getting to know them more and more each day. I felt welcomed as part of the family and noticed an easeful synergy in energy. Especially spending quality time with Amba was a favourite pastime — she is so full of wonder and spirit, she taught me so much. The work was reasonable overall. The part I enjoyed the most was cooking for the retreat guests and deepening my own skill in that space. It felt beautiful to be in service for the guests, even tasks like cleaning were fulfilling. I had an idea to create a guidebook for the volunteers which collated all the instructions and information required as well as recipe examples in case cooking was a new skill. It feels great to have completed that and for it to be a helpful resource for Floris and Paulina. The land is only a 20 minute walk from the main village and around 40 minutes drive from beautiful, pristine beaches. There was still plenty of time off in amongst shifts to see and do everything I wanted. I was also able to work online for my clients which was a huge plus. Being able to live in a tent and service retreat guests while also being able to tend to my online business was extremely fulfilling. The fellow volunteers, community members and retreat guests were wonderful and of course, as it goes living in communal spaces, conscious conversations about boundaries and needs are always important. I’m thankful to have been given the opportunity to grow as a person through the art of living amongst others. As a special bonus, I was able to attend yoga classes, participate in song circles and other adventures during the retreats. Some days it felt like I was on a retreat myself, which I think is something very unique about choosing somewhere like this place. Words can’t really express the gratitude I have for my time there, but if you’re considering it, don’t hesitate — you’ll get much more than you could have expected (in the best possible way!). Sending love to Paulina, Floris, Amba and all the animals — I hope to return someday 💜
