Lowenna stayed with us for nearly three weeks. She is very nice, discreet, very well mannered and interesting. She is very mature for her age, she helped us with the house chores and cooked very good food . She was very respectful of the house rules and reliable. She picked up and dropped the girls from school and played with them. Thank you!

This September with Tami & Philippe was such a joy – just imagine a couple who is interested, dedicated, hands-on and full of respect for everybody. It’s quite a challenge to form a workaway group with an unknown host and an other workawayer – we all fitted right in and had a very good time. Tami& Philippe work as a team, you’ll hear them discussing during work, always looking for the best solutions and working hand in hand – with the most stunning results! They did plenty of woodwork – went through the whole list of proposed possibilities (!) and did organize themselves. There were steps around a terrasse, the front door with a rotten base, a desk to adapt, chairs to be stabilized, the list goes on and on – and in the end my workshop was so clean and organized – better than before! Philipp is also a handyman, electricity, plumbing and repairs in general were part of his work – what a relief to have things in order and running again. In the evenings we cooked together, we learned about unknown foreign food, they prepared also a really festive meal. The exchange with them was so interesting and I learned a lot, both of them have a full life with special interests and they like to share their knowledge. Thank you Tami & Philippe, I wish we could meet sometimes – just to see how your lives are developing, I’m sure there’ll be some surprises!

Vincent is a very helpful and capable young man and a pleasure to have around at my home. He stayed with us for a month during which time he helped out with garden maintenance and yard type jobs. He is experienced using strimmers and other gardening tools, both petrol and battery operated and was always tidy and efficient during his working hours for me. Vincent is punctual, very professional and careful. He is a fun guy and enjoys mucking in with family life, getting to know people and learning English. I wish him all the best for his adventures as a Workaway volunteer and can recommend him to anyone who wants help.

We had the privilege of hosting Scott and Jane for WorkAway. Scott and Jane are a wonderful couple who are very detail oriented, highly respectful, and skilled in the tasks they completed. It was a wonderful experience having them here. We see Jane and Scott as good friends and stay in touch with them. I highly recommend these two!

Robbert was a nice and easygoing person to welcome. He was helpful with physical tasks such as stacking firewood and other jobs that required big arms. He followed instructions and left the place clean as we had asked ;). We wish you all the best on your future travels and Workaway adventures! Noisia misses watching you eat haha <3

My experience with Andreas was truly special. His garden is a little corner of peace where time seems to slow down, and every day carries a sense of calm that makes you feel at home. I met amazing people like Carlos, Susi, and many others with whom I shared beautiful moments - laughter, conversations, and work done with a smile. One of the things I'll always remember is eating all together like a real family: good food, a relaxed atmosphere, and that feeling of connection that only certain places can give you. Thank you so much, Andreas, for your hospitality and for creating such an authentic and welcoming place. I truly recommend this experience to anyone looking for peace, nature, and great people.

I spent five weeks at their place and I really enjoyed staying there! The location itself is beautiful, surrounded by enormous fields, trees, and of course, the house, the old watermill, and the little lake. I loved taking the dogs out in the morning, because that’s when I really got to take in the view and the sunrise. After that, I took care of the other animals. The horses are exceptional. Even someone afraid of horses would want to touch them! They’re calm, collected, and come to you asking for scratches. I mainly cleaned the paddock, prepared the hay (it needed to be steamed to remove dust that caused one horse to cough), and filled up their water. The chickens, oh, the chickens! Such funny, curious, and clever creatures. My favorite was the independent one Tante Fritzi. She just does whatever she wants, a true cool chicken. The ducks share the same space and get along well. I’d feed them, clean their nesting areas, collect the eggs, and refill their water. I usually tried to finish everything before lunch, but each day was a little different. Sometimes I cooked dinner, cleaned the kitchen, looked after the kids, or helped with errands like shopping. As for the family, truly kind people. Bruno is a sharp one-year-old, obsessed with shoes and absolutely adorable. Taavi is, as Lisa perfectly said, a real “laberababer”, observant, clever, and fun. You connect with him right away. Lisa is what I imagine Germans mean by a “Powerfrau”. She and Tore really get things done! She’s outgoing, caring, and creative. She even invited me to join her for sports once a week and to go horse riding, which was great fun. Tore is quite the handyman, he taught himself quite a few things and was often busy working downstairs renovating so they can move in by Christmas. He's very easy to talk to and answered all the questions I had about the renovations. I love how they always include the kids in daily life instead of leaving them out for convenience. I always received everything I needed. The food was delicious, and my room was a private, respected space. They also put me in contact with people who offered me jobs on the weekends, which was great! It might be a busier, more stressful time for them now with all the work going on, but once things settle and the kids are a bit older, that place will be even more amazing, if that’s even possible. I’m so excited and proud of them for pushing through. Thank you so much for everything, and I hope I can come back someday to see how it’s changed, the place and the kids! Lots of love, Maya

Top rated volunteer! Annie fell right into working with the dogs having already had a lot of experience. I really enjoyed Annie´s company, she is a great vegan cook which was an unexpected added bonus. My mouth waters just thinking of the tasty meals she made whilst here. Everything felt easy going and flowed in a natural way. My only complaint is that she couldn´t stay forever!

We stayed for 10 days at the beachhouse in september and had the best experience! We last minute arranged everything but that was no problem. We worked together with Antony on making a new garden, painting the chairs and palmtrees, and general maintenance tasks. Patricia and Antony are really nice and showed us around. You also have enough free time to explore Elmina and Cape coast. We did not see Melvin but had a great communication over whatsapp. We really recomend this place!

Sena stayed with us for a month and we've had some great moments together. He is calm, full of joy, and easy to live with. He was autonomous working on his own, almost the whole period and could follow the directions without having to worry, either gardening, cleaning or others. He's always comfortable with the different help needed. The children also really liked is presence and playing with him. It was a pleasure to welcome Sena.

We have just spent an incredible week with Lanka’s family, and what can we say… It was a deeply human experience, filled with love, kindness, and authenticity. We’re leaving Deniyaya with our hearts full, after discovering the true Sri Lanka — breathtaking landscapes, genuine smiles, and rich cultural exchanges that sometimes made us reflect on our own way of life in Europe. From the moment we arrived, we received the warmest welcome. Check-in and check-out times are very flexible, which is a real plus for travelers. We were three travelers and had two cozy bedrooms, a living room, a terrace, and a private bathroom — a real home away from home. On our first evening, a delicious meal was waiting for us, and we spent the night chatting about our different cultures — Sri Lankan and French — in such a lovely atmosphere. Lanka speaks English very well, and with the rest of the family, Google Translate and smiles worked wonders. Our first impression: we immediately felt at home! The following days were full of wonderful discoveries and meaningful moments: A women’s meeting in a lively little village, where we were welcomed with so much warmth and food! Board game nights full of laughter. A Sinhala language lesson and a fascinating visit to a tea factory. Visits to several villages, discovering plantations, harvesting, and local community discussions. A beautiful temple visit, after climbing many steps to reach an incredible wooden and stone sanctuary surrounded by monkeys. A day at a local school and a waterfall, followed by a homemade meal with one of Lanka’s relatives. And finally, a magical French dinner night — a “crêpe party” filled with laughter, dance, and emotion before the hardest part… saying goodbye. Those last moments were the most emotional — many tears, hugs, and deep connections. In just one week, we built real bonds of friendship and love. We recommend this experience a thousand times over! 💛 If you are looking for authenticity, kindness, smiles, and pure happiness, you will find it here. And one last thing — don’t forget to dance! It’s the most beautiful universal language we shared together. Thank you to Lanka and the whole family — we love you so much! 💕
