This place has a lot of potential to be an amazing 5/5 host, but for me the experience was not like that, unfortunately. The projects and tasks vary from gardening and farming stuff (watering the plants, weeding, picking, pruning, mulching, trimming trees, etc.), some landscaping, and construction and renovation related tasks to improve the house or other structures on the property. I personally really enjoyed the projects we worked on, and it was nice to have a mix of different tasks to do. Also, depending on the type of project, there was a nice amount of work independence and freedom regarding planning. Another big plus is the food. It might depend on what time of year you’re here, but during my 3-week stay in September the garden had plenty of amazing fresh vegetables that we used for cooking. From beautiful cherry tomatoes and squash, to delicious zucchini and eggplant, there’s a variety of fresh produce to do the daily cooking. What wasn’t that great for me was the incorrect Workaway profile description. When I first contacted Julian, as well as on the moment I actually arrived to the place, the information on the Workaway page was completely incorrect. For example: during my stay, Julian was barely at the property. Sometimes he’d even come home in the evening and leave in the morning without checking-in on the volunteers or saying hi. Instead, the volunteers worked with Danni, an amazing guy from Scotland and Julian’s volunteer coordinator. This meant that the cultural exchange aspect was quite limited. Also, because Julian was almost never there, we didn’t do any hiking trips or adventures as mentioned on the profile. If it wasn’t for Danni, who took another volunteer and me to a nearby natural pool, we wouldn’t have seen any of the hidden gems spoken of in the description. Furthermore, at the time it mentioned there being a nice dog and Julian's partner with experience in graphic design. Both of these were things I looked forward to, as I love dogs and I would have liked to get some feedback on my own work. Also, regarding the food situation that's described on the Workaway page: we did make a shopping list together, but most of the times only the absolute essentials were bought, with other items staying on the list forever or being bought only days after the item in question had already run out. At one point, we took it upon ourselves to do shopping in Tirana as it had been a while since we asked for certain ingredients and cleaning items. I believe the cause of this is twofold: (1) Danni, who did the shopping for us, was extremely busy as he was asked to do many other things by or for Julian (and his friends); and (2) I had the feeling the money situation was quite tight. This is also why, I think, that when working on some construction stuff that required tools, only the absolute minimum was purchased and even after a long time of asking. All in all, this place could really be an amazing volunteering place in Albania. The property is in a peaceful and quiet village nearby Tirana and with bus connection nearby. The home-grown food is delicious and if you like working outside and with your hands, then the projects are good fun. However, my experience was negatively impacted by the annoying situation regarding groceries and shopping, and the blatantly false Workaway profile description that made me feel like I had been purposefully deceived or lied to. Whether or not it was a temporary situation, for me it was not a 5/5 experience.

Well it was a privilege to have Franka and Gunter stay with us at Juliasdale. They are both hard workers with a good attention to detail. They are very good company and we enjoyed conversation around the table. They work well in a team and we were grateful to benefit from their energy , skills and humour!

This lovely family was our very first work away experience and we couldn't be happier! They made us have an amazing stay and were just overall such kind hearted people. they raise their kids with so much love and patience and both boys were very sweet. Britten is very adventurous and energetic and loves to show all his coolest toys and game ideas and Hadly is a very peaceful and adorable baby who smiles and laughes a lot. We met almost all of the family members of this big family including great grandparents! They all welcomed us warmly and we always felt really included and welcome. we never once felt as if we were some kind of "maids" and it honestly felt as if we were visiting some kind of extended family. The tasks were very easy and we could've definitely done more but it was mostly just small house chores and a bit of babysitting which was no issue at all. Even though our diets were a little different (meat and lactose) they did their best to adjust and we found great ways to make it work for everyone. It was the best experience we could've asked for for getting into work away. Thank you guys so much and hopefully we hear from each other again:)

Cecilie was here to help us for around 4 weeks in the end of the summer. She is a hard worker, selfgoing nad was very friendly to our guests. The period she was here she mostly did cooking for groups of 30-90 people and was also helping with cleaning and preparing the campsite between the different groups. She was here with a group of around 6-7 other volunteers and for me it looked like they all got along well. I could easily recommend her to all other hosts. Thank you for all the good help Cecilie!

In one word, amazing! My experience with Gabriel and Eve’s family was truly memorable. For over 35 days, I shared everyday life with them, and each day was filled with meaningful exchanges, laughter, and inspiration. Both Gabriel and Eve balance their professional and family lives with rare harmony. They are a couple who have built everything together, their home, their rhythm, and their values, and listening to their story is truly inspiring. You can feel their mutual respect and support in everything they do. It’s not just partnership; it’s teamwork, trust, and love in action. Gab brings dynamic energy to the family, always positive, curious, and ready to share his passion for boxing and sports. If you stay with them, don’t miss a weekend session with him, it’s both fun and motivating! Eve, on the other hand, is calm, insightful, and gracefully manages her work and the household while caring deeply for everyone around her. She’s the quiet strength of the home. Their children are wonderful, bright, polite, and full of potential. I spent time teaching the younger one table tennis and short morning meditations under the sun, and it was incredible to see how quickly he connected to both focus and calm. The older kids are just as impressive, curious, independent, and genuinely kind. I tried to contribute in small, meaningful ways, from preparing healthy meals (sugar-free, gluten-free, and inspired by both Indian and French flavors) to helping with daily organization and household comfort. I believe these little gestures create big differences. This experience reminded me that real well-being comes from the way a family lives, supports, and grows together. Gabriel and Eve embody that spirit perfectly. Thank you for opening your home and hearts. You are truly a remarkable couple and an inspiring family, one that leaves a lasting impression on anyone lucky enough to meet you.

Jack was a joy to host - he has a sunny disposition, always full of smiles, and he also worked hard at every task he did and achieved a lot in the short time he was here. His natural enthusiasm and curiosity is infectious and he could pretty much get along with everyone so we highly recommend him if you're considering hosting him! Good luck on your travels Jack! We'll never forget you!

I have so many things to say and I don’t even know where to start ❤️. Taine, Avni, and Malsor are such a beautiful family with big hearts, and they are super respectful. From the very first day I entered the hostel, I felt like I had found the place and the family I would love to have ❤️. When I got sick, they always asked me if I was okay or if I needed anything, and I really valued that because they cared for me as if I were part of their family. This will always be my favorite place to come back to. The activities I had to do at the hostel were super easy changing the bed sheets and doing general cleaning to keep everything in order. After that, the whole day was free to play sports, go to the city center, walk around, and meet new people. Kosovo is such a beautiful country, and the peace it has is on another level. The people are incredibly kind. I highly recommend volunteering here because you’ll love everything about it, and you’ll never want to leave. Thank you for three wonderful months. I will be back soon either to volunteer again or just to visit. I’m sending you a big hug it’s not a goodbye, but a see you soon. ❤️

Reuben was a happy cheerful person. Knew a lot more facts about a lot more subjects and was a hot with our kids. Very easy to have around and great to chat to, Rueben attacked every task with enthusiasm and thought, and used a lot of initiative when left to work alone. Definitely did a lot more hours than was expected of him. Our house was chaotic at the time of Reubens stay and he didnt appear at all bothered by it.

John is such a lovely easy going guy. my work was focused inside the house and it was nice work to do, nothing too strenuous. I enjoyed our chats about life and reflecting upon our experiences together, John had lots of stories to share which was nice to learn about. John is very considerate as I asked to do 2 full days of work so that I could have 2 days to explore as I wasn't there for long and John was happy with it. A lovely accommodating host that I would definitely recommend if your looking for somewhere at Mooloolah. John has such a beautiful home, he keeps himself very busy with all his little projects he is a credit to contributing bio diversity. :)

We had a wonderful experience at Marina’s place! She was kind, attentive, and welcoming from the very first contact and throughout our stay. Penang is a beautiful island, and we loved exploring it while volunteering there. Marina gave us great tips about local markets, restaurants, beaches, and waterfalls, which made our experience even better. We spent two weeks helping with painting and decorating — the work was easygoing, and Marina provided all materials and clear instructions. She was also very flexible with the schedule, allowing us to enjoy the island at our own pace. It was a pleasure painting with such an amazing view from her apartment — truly breathtaking! We’re really happy with this experience; it’s definitely one of the best we’ve ever had. Big thanks to Marina and sweet Kaya, such a loving and friendly dog. We highly recommend this volunteering opportunity! 💛

Julien and Nina spent over a month at studio and garden, and it was a pleasure hosting them. They are a polite, mature, and respectful couple who worked diligently and independently in the garden, as well as collaboratively as part of a team. They consistently communicated their plans and progress, showing great organisational skills and reliability. Both are skilled in using a 4WD buggy and a variety of garden tools, and they followed all instructions and house rules with care. Julien and Nina are excellent communicators, responsible, and proactive. I highly recommend them to any future hosts.

What can I say, these guys felt like a home from home. Thankyou Pete, Lorena and Yane for all hosting me. I really did feel like part of the family these guys are great and make you feel so welcome. I spent a lot of time with Yane and helping out at her home as well as with Pete with some painting and burning off. Lorena is so kind and thoughtful, we went on a great camping adventure together. I am so grateful for all the effort that was put into my stay, the walks, the talks, the GLOW WORMS! Wow just wow a dream come true. I felt like we laughed alot and had nice deeps talks. I got beat by Pete playing chess, I have to practise my chess strategy, until next time haha! If you're looking for a workaway in the blue mountains these guys are great and love being outdoors so your sure to get to do some fun stuff as well as the work side. They are really so grateful for your help also, you definitely feel valued with your contribution. Thanks again!

I had an amazing time volunteering with the cats. Hiroko-san and everyone working here are wonderfully kind and accomodating and really made sure that I enjoyed my stay. The food is also absolutely delicious! The work is as described on the profile. It's very straightforward and the cats are super cute. It's emphasised to spend time petting and playing with the cats to help socialise them, which is great:) There is also plenty of time to cycle around Ojika in between shifts and on days off. It's a beautiful place full of great people and I hope to be back someday soon! Thank you so much!!

Lynda is a wonderful host. I stayed one week with her and I was sad to leave. Lynda is a bright, smiling, funny, kind person with a warm heart. She lives in a sustainable, ecological and healthy way which is a model for our society. We should take example on that. My tasks were varied according the weather and the priorities which include gardening, weeding, plant potatoes, take care of the vegetables… And also housekeeping, cleaning in the house and the land, bringing the wood… She is an excellent cook and I really appreciated eating the organic food from her garden. The landscape surrounding is stunning, between the sea and mountains. Lulu, her dog, was a great buddy to walk with me. Thank you for this stay and hope to see you again soon! 🌷🤍🫶
