We are so grateful to have hosted Mayang with us. From the very beginning she was kind, respectful, and full of positive energy. She arrived with no previous horse experience, but she was eager to learn, and by the time she left she had gained so much knowledge and confidence in horse care — which is exactly what we hope for in our volunteers. She took on all tasks with dedication, from feeding, grooming, and walking the horses to sharing their rescue stories with our visitors. She was also curious to learn more and even assisted in minor treatments, showing genuine care for the animals. It was rewarding to see her build trust with the horses, and we know they felt it too. Beyond the stables, she embraced everything we had to offer — diving, connecting with the local community, and forming friendships with staff and fellow volunteers. She appreciated the work we do here, and it meant a lot to us to see her so engaged. Thank you Mayang for your kind words in your review, and for all the love and effort you gave during your stay. We would welcome you back anytime and highly recommend you to other hosts!

I contacted Brad very last minute, he was still kind enough to accept my stay. Their home is super welcoming, and the little room I stayed in was so cozy, and I felt really comfortable there. Brad is very easygoing and loves to chat, and so does his wife Meme. Both of them are incredibly kind, open, and fun to talk with. Whenever I had any questions or worries, they were always there to listen and talk with me. Their two kids, Charlie and Clint, are just the sweetest — so lively, smart, and full of energy! I had such a joyful time spending days with them. Every night, they would give me a hug and say goodnight, which really touched my heart. I miss those moments so much. I honestly miss this warm and loving family already. If I ever come back to Vancouver, I’ll definitely visit them again, I can’t wait to see those two adorable kids!

We had a truly amazing time hosting Ruth and Renato. They are outstanding volunteers—very hardworking, responsible, and trustworthy. They helped us both on the farm and inside the house, always with great energy and a wonderful sense of humor. We shared so many great moments together: laughter, delicious recipes, and inspiring conversations about their culture. They integrated perfectly into our daily life and were always willing to lend a hand with anything we needed. It was an absolute pleasure to host them and we’ll always remember their positive spirit and good vibes. Thank you for everything, Ruth and Renato! We wish you all the best in your upcoming adventures—any host would be lucky to have you!

We appreciate all that Ira Mark helped us with during his stay: weeding, laying wood chips, working with firewood, helping in the kitchen and with processing garden produce...our chickens were faithfully cared for and we didn't need to worry if they were closed at night as he was very prompt and trustworthy in many areas. He interacted well with the family and children. We thoroughly enjoyed our thoughtful talks and discussion times.

Duarte helped us clean out the basement It's very difficult and demanding work, however, the type of this work was not listed in our list. We're very grateful for that. Duarte also helped with gardening and making beds at the glamping site. He was always punctual and efficient. Living with him was just as wonderful. Duarte is quiet, clean, and well-mannered. He doesn't say anything unnecessary. We can recommend Duarte to other hosts.

Lucie is a wonderful person. She's originally from France and has helped many guests, including some from France. She is a wonderful addition to the guesthouse team, always welcoming everyone with kindness and a smile. She made an effort to check in in Japanese, which she nail it. She is always learning and working hard for the guesthouse. I highly recommend Lucie to everyone. We are happy that you love Shimoda. I hope you all the best for the rest of your trip in Japan! Best wishes from your family in Shimoda.

Not gonna lie: working in a sanctuary was a dream for me. Pippa and Brent created a gorgeous safe place for all animals and it was amazing to listen to their experience and stories about animal care and animal rights actions. The animals were so welcoming as well, and accepted me right away. There were LOTS of belly rubs but of course taking care of animals mainly means handling poo, providing food and water, and keeping an eye out for everyone’s safety. You can also help out around the house or the garden, anything that make life for the humans and animals of the sanctuary easier. If you can be independent, self-driven and stick to a schedule, the only challenge you will face will be not having enough hands to pet everyone. The comfort provided is also top-notch 👌 Pippa and Brent were very considerate and arranging and I consider myself lucky to have had the opportunity to learn from them, to cuddle possums and be followed by boars for scratches. A unique experience I am super grateful for! 🥰

This was our first Workaway but it set the bar incredibly high! There was a huge amount of work to be done but we never felt pressured or rushed and had time enough to explore the surrounding area. We were mainly cooking, cleaning, painting and other light work to get their properties ready for the winter season. Neil and Taylor are so patient, generous, understanding and down to earth that we instantly felt right at home and comfortable working with them and sharing the occasional dinner and games night too. We were there in early autumn and were lucky enough to have the use of a shared car to get around and enjoy the spectacular scenery and local onsens. We cannot recommend staying and helping out with them enough!

Staying with Carol and Dr. Rick for a month was an absolute pleasure. Their home in the rainforest is truly special, peaceful, surrounded by nature, and with a beautiful river to bathe in every day. Most of the work involved gardening tasks such as weeding, harvesting fruits, preparing cacao, and caring for the goats, including gathering grass from the mountain for them. The work was sometimes physically challenging but always rewarding, especially with the stunning views, the chance to eat fresh fruit from the land, and cooling off in the river after working. Carol is such a dedicated and inspiring person, and I was happy to support her as much as I could. She has created an incredible garden full of life and beauty, and I learned so much from her. I have a deep interest in medicinal plants, and Carol generously shared her knowledge and wisdom with me. I really appreciated all of our chats and everything she taught me. Carol also gave me lots of tips and recommendation with how to navigate Dominica, and I enjoyed going out into town and to the hot springs with her when we had time. Overall, it was a beautiful and enriching experience, and I’m very grateful for the time I spent there. A month went by way too fast, but at the same time, it felt like I had known Carol for a long time. Since leaving, I’ve already been back to visit because I missed them so much. They truly became family to me, and I feel so lucky to have been welcomed into their world. I can’t wait to visit again and see Carol’s garden and farm continue to flourish.

We had a great time with Edd and Diana! They are so nice, amazing and supportive! We adjusted our schedule and contacted them the day before we wanted to stay, and they just gave us an instant response and say yes to us! We felt very grateful and Edd even picked us up at the bus transport centre. During the stay, we felt very welcomed and they always give us a lot of privacy. The house is now under the renovation, but everything is lovely and cozy. We stayed in the bedroom upstairs, and everyone shared the living room, kitchen, toilet and bathroom. We enjoyed a lot of time in the living room with the stunning lake view! 😊 About the food, Edd and Diana are very generous. Everyone can find something tasty from the panty and the fridge anytime, and we enjoyed the dinner together and always had a good conversation! Diana is so good at cooking, we loved pizzas, salads, couscous and the traditional British cuisine - "Toad in the hole"! 😋 They also took us to the Asian supermarket, and we cooked some Taiwanese food for them! The jobs here are not too difficult, the working time is very flexible. They always showed us how to do the jobs and explained the conditions to us in the beginning. We helped some gardening and renovation, and also washed the cars which we enjoyed a lot with music! 😉 When we didn't rent the car successfully, they gave us a huge support immediately and let us felt that they treated us as a family! We will definitely miss you both, and hope we can meet again someday! 🥰 Wish you all the happiness and joy, and we are so lucky to have a chance to participate in your renovation project!

I spent 2 months with this beautiful family, my goal was to learn some German, and to experience life in village, with family. Since first moment I felt accepted and welcomed. We shared a lot of great moments and great conversations. I learnt a lot about German culture and the way of living = I have had enough Wurst . Barbecues were something what I was really happy about, warm family atmosphere filled with joy, love and laughter. Amalia is such happy and playful child, you just can’t be sad when she’s around. I could hear her steps while she is running towards my room and I would smile before she enters. I loved to drink coffee with Justine and Matteo in the morning , and to chit chat little bit before I do my home tasks, than we would all have dinner together and talk again in the evening. I’m so happy that this was my first work away experience, so valuable, everything was even better than what I imagined. Such lovely people, looking forward to see you all again !

I spent three weeks here and I would have stayed longer if I didn’t have another commitment. I was so grateful that they were very nice since the very beginning despite my personal hectic schedule. The time went by so fast! I wish I could rewind and be slower because every second was precious. I love animals and ocean, and this place offered me the best of both worlds. I learned a lot taking care of horses and their rescue backstory which I happily forwarded to guests who came visiting us. I liked that they gave me a booklet beforehand of what works I would do, the hours and also a short explanation of the place and the horse culture in Gili T. It helped me managing my expectations and also preparing myself before doing the volunteering. I also appreciated their contributions to the local communities, providing care and medication for the local horses, not just stopping at rescuing animals which is already big. I enjoyed grooming, feeding, walking the horses, talking with people sharing our work while getting to know each horse in the stable and playing with foals. They were eager to teach you new things. I even had the opportunity to help treat a minor blisters. Also, it was rewarding when the horses give you their trust. Every day I had a new favorite! I also did a lot of scuba diving here. The sites of Gili are diverse, crystal clear and I liked that at this place they truly well maintain the gears and equipments, which seem small but a great deal when you are underwater. The instructors and the staff were super patient and chill, I improved my buoyancy and found the fun again in diving, even during an unexpected drift (which I would love to do again)!! I also got a little treasure from here: friendship with fellow volunteers, local staff and the people of Gili. They were one of the coolest and the most sincere people I met.

It was a real pleasure staying here for 3 weeks! Sandra and Micheal are really friendly host who are available for anything, even for great and open minded discussion ! I was the only volunteer 2 out of the 3 weeks I have been there, it was great to enjoy a peaceful time with the view and having my own space in the volunteer house. About the work, you will have a lot of things to do, especially in construction where the focus was when I was up here. You will have time to discuss with the workers and practise your Spanish. Do not forget to bring something as the city is more than one hour away. If you are looking for a peacefully place where you do not get bored, this is the place !

I originally planned to stay for just 4 weeks, but I ended up staying for 6 and I definitely want to come back. Kathy and Ged are incredibly kind, warmhearted people who are great communicators and easy to talk to. From the moment Ged picked me up, it felt like I never stopped laughing with him — it was a joy working alongside him. He was always around and happy to answer any questions I had. Kathy is also such a warm and caring person. Both she and Ged have a deep love for animals, which is truly inspiring. The landscape is absolutely beautiful, and being surrounded by nature gave me such peace of mind. One of my favorite things to do was to head outside a little early in the morning and have a chat with the horses. If you're patient and warm, you're sure to get some hugs in return. I also became very attached to their three dogs. Dusty loves going for walks, and we often watched wallabies together nearby. He could literally play with a ball all day long! Rosie and George are the cutest, and seeing them every morning always made me smile. The work itself is fun, and I really enjoyed being outdoors so much. Picking up poo when it’s really hot can be a bit tough, but there is plenty of time to rest and have a good breakfast with the other workawayers. Everything is well organized, and you’ll get used to all the different foods and hays. I promise! Kathy and Ged are incredibly hardworking, but even with their busy schedule, they always looked out for us — whether that meant giving us a lift or helping plan our days off in a way that worked best for us. In the kitchen, we often had great conversations about Australian history, horses, or just catching up and having a laugh. Every Friday, you can choose what you want from the shopping list (a bunch of options like tofu, lots of vegetables and fruits, canned food, muesli, and so on), and if you stay in the house, you’ll share the kitchen with them. I visited Samford Village (ate way too much yummy cake!), spent some wonderful days in Brisbane, and visited both the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast. I met so many kind and wonderful Workawayers on the farm, and I learned a lot about horses. I’ll always remember this time fondly and would be so happy to return. Thank you for everything!

Jacob was an outstanding volunteer. He was easygoing, respectful, and always willing to help wherever needed. Jacob worked hard, communicated effectively, and truly cared about completing tasks properly. We valued both his company and his dedication to work. We would recommend Jacob without hesitation to any host. We wish him well in his future travels Kind regards Rosaleen & David

My husband and I had a very good time helping teach English at this Workaway. The tiny town is very friendly, welcoming, and safe. The staff are very helpful and kind. One of them even accompanied us on a hike up the nearby Pacaya Volcano. The English teaching is very easy and well-organized, with no planning necessary, and even first-time teachers can do it. Class sizes are very small (2-8 students), and in some classes, you are just assisting the actual teacher by having little conversations with the students in English. The students are all very sweet and eager to learn. The hours are great and fairly flexible. We had plenty of time to leave for 3 or so days per week to explore other parts of the country. We did have some trouble with water and internet for the first couple of weeks, but it was resolved as soon as possible. You just have to be patient with these things when traveling in a developing country, but having data on your phone can save you if you also happen to be working online while there. I think they recently moved the "apartment" mentioned in the profile to a bedroom and private bath over the institute. It was sufficient for what we needed, but that should probably be updated. He was great and very responsive to all our needs, even being on the other side of the world. We happened to be here during Guatemalan Independence Day and were invited to participate in the festivities with the staff and students, which was a lot of fun. We really enjoyed our time here and recommend it to anyone wanting to experience Guatemalan culture.
