wow Collin and Kims place is truly magical. you get the true Jamaican experience here living life in the bush not to far from port Antonio. I spent most of my days with Collin as Kim was back home in Germany. Collin is one of the coolest and most laid back dudes you will ever meet. We did a lot together, there was some SERIOUS tea that got drank between us in my time there. we cooked, hiked up the river, done some painting, smoked ALOT of serious herb. met up with his neighbourhood friends. drank rum, board games. overall it was a real adventure, it never once felt like I was there to just work for Collin he was so laid back, I was never once put under pressure. they have 3 beautiful dogs that were joined to my hip and would come with me everywhere I went. the waterfall there is something out of a fairy tail, I would be there everyday with the dogs to wind down. I spent 6 lovely weeks in Jamaica and 2 with Collin, I was rescued from a really bad experience with another Workaway host that affected my time there. For me I could never see myself going back but if I was to go back it would only be to return to berrydise to see Kim and Collin. one love x

Uri became a brother! Great person with a big hurt. Knows how to stay with people bringing fun and nice conversations. Tireless worker, passionate about whatever he can learn about nature, diy, and countryside life. He's very resistant and capable, productive and smart. AMAZING COOK and amazing martial arts coach :)

Cole was an outstanding volunteer at the lighthouse this autumn. With his background he could certainly have helped out with a variety of things, but he went all in for the biggest challenge during these weeks - moving heavy stones so we could get ahead with the building. Not afraid of hard work, he became a stone cracker specialist and moved them with the right methods. Despite this his nice attitude and warm personality is what we remember him for. Gentle, cool and patient, with warm humor and good mood. We strongly recommend him to other hosts.

Harry is GOLD: radiant, filled with beautiful positive energy, and blessed with a view of life that’s both inspiring and contagious. He’s sweet, caring, generous, helpful, meticulous, and full of drive. Thank you for being with us and for leaving pieces of yourself here, from the trails you restored like a maniac to your magical recipes, and that perfect mix of British class and rebellion :)

Nils-Arne was an outstanding volunteer at the lighthouse this summer. With his background he could certainly have helped us out with a variety of things, but he went all in for the biggest challenge during these summer weeks - moving heavy stones so we could get ahead with the building. Not afraid of hard work, he became a stone cracker specialist and moved them with the right methods. Generally handy and knowing how to use various power tools, he also helped out with other tasks. Despite this his nice attitude and warm personality is what we remember him for. Gentle, listening in to people as well as nature, warm humor and good mood. We strongly recommend him to other hosts. Nils-Arne is gold!

Sally was a great guest to have! She’s hardworking, friendly, and always willing to help out. She kept everything super clean and tidy and was really easy to get along with. It was lovely to see her practising her Spanish and getting involved in all tasks. I’d happily host her again anytime!

I had a lovely time at the Finca. My experience may have been different than most because I was the only volunteer for most of the time, but this didn't matter because the family welcomed me in with open arms. I felt immediately comfortable and at home. I really enjoyed my time spent with Maria and Johnny and the conversations we were able to have, everyone felt like friends, not strangers. Maria was very open to speaking about her spirituality and perspectives with me and answering any questions I had. She also invited me out with her and I was able to go to a few mantra circles which were amazing (in Maro was beautiful), and she inspired me to take up harmonium! Working 6 days wasn't bad at all, it was nice to have a routine on the Finca. I was usually helping in the kitchen, garden, sorting through fruits or harvesting figs and almonds. I loved my little caravan under the olive tree and I hope to return to it someday soon <3 Much love, and please give Noche a cuddle for me!

Edward and Julianna were a really super couple to have at my place. They came for the month of September and fitted into my family life helping me with many tasks during a busy time. Edward was very helpful and competent in my garden. He is experienced using a petrol strimmer and was great at stripping ivy and clearing weeds and undergrowth in parts of my garden where I needed help. He is a marvellously polite person and willing to learn and he works well with other people and works safely. Julianna was incredibly good at organising my kitchen and cleaning store rooms and cupboards in the most brilliant way. She is very capable and can cook and manage anything you ask her to do in a thoughtful and efficient way. She was great on homing in on jobs I could't do and I was very touched by how thoughtful she was. Both Julianna and Ed are well travelled and mature young people who are a pleasure to have around. I wish them all the best for the adventures together.

Such an amazing time we had! it was my first Workaway and Im so happy that she was my first host. I stayed there for 3 months and we had a lot of fun and great time together. Wangari is such an strong inspiring woman, and also she has great sense of humour which made me laugh so much! Her family is so lovely and welcoming as well! They are Kikuyu (one of tribes in Kenya), and they taught me so much Swahili and Kikuyu it was so funny when we go out and I started to speak Swahili to random people and they got shocked 🤣 We became like actual family, Wangari as my actual sister, we share so much time, meals together, share the same bed (well.. she's bad at sharing blankets and sleeping in a same spot so if you ever do, be careful! 😂😜) Anyway, thank you so much for everything and I miss you guys so much! I hope to see you soon ❤️ Mizi

i really enjoyed hosting Jakub. He was super helpful and social. He helped me a lot in the garden and definitively has experience and skills here. Even though not being a cat lover (at first), he proofed to be a extraordinarily cat dad (we adopted a little stray kitten, the day her arrived). Thank for for the kardamomme coffees, raising kitty and your company, Jakub.

I worked here from April to August 2025. It was a good job and a good experience. my tasks were pruning raspberry and blueberry bushes, lots of weeding, looking after greenhouse plants, planting seedlings, harvesting fruits and vegetables, oh and a lot of weeding lol. I stayed in an r.v. and had meals and showers in the main house. It has the most comfortable bed! Breakfast and lunch is do your own thing, supper was made and always delicious. Everyone ate together at supper. On the farm there are David, James and Karen, Karen's two young boys who will make you laugh, and Germain. Everyone is friendly and kind. David is very knowledgeable and happy to give detailed explanations about farm related questions, James and I had several interesting conversations, Karen is kind and has a sense of humor, and Germain was mostly quiet (at least with me) and kind. The town of Pierreville is a 35 minute walk from the farm, there are trails close by and it is right near the Odanak territory, where there is a nice museum. I have always had a lot of respect for farmers, but having worked on one for almost a whole season has increased my respect. They work all the time, from early morning until the evening. David wears multiple hats and has to do a lot at the same time but keeps calm and has a smile. It was a good experience for me, I learned a lot.

When Hugh picked me up at the bus stop, rocking his Trump hat, I was a bit surprised and concerned. I was wondering what in the hell I had signed up for. But despite having to endure Hughs' occasional right-wing conspiracy rants about Covid vaccine nano bots or airplane chem trails, I ended up having a really great time! Hugh and Jane are a hilarious older British couple and some of the hardest workers I have ever met. They immigrated to Portugal 20 years ago and transformed some old ruins into a beautiful Quinta overflowing with grapes, olives and fruit trees. Working with them was a blast, they have a great attitude, hilarious stories and are very generous sharing what they know. I was there for the whole month of September and got to experience the famous vindima. During the grape harvest, the days are pretty structured, and we were putting in some serious hours, but it was always a good vibe. It was a great group of people, including Hugh, Jane, their family, their friends, and all the workawayers. We would usually spend the morning picking, then have a big feast for lunch with plenty of wine and laughter. At Hugh and Jane’s, you can expect top-tier accommodations, gourmet food, wonderful wine, great company, competitive card games, and, if you are lucky, they might even fire up the smoker. Their silverware situation will always be an enigma to me, but I have an understanding and appreciation for wine now that I never would have expected!

It was my first Workaway experience. I’m deeply grateful to Nimea, Paulo, Vicky, Edo — and the adorable Oceano! Since my English isn’t perfect yet, I couldn’t understand any of Nimea’s jokes during our first online talk. Yet she still welcomed me warmly. When I asked why, she told me that she believes language doesn’t matter when it comes to true communication. That moment really touched my heart. When I arrived, my SIM card wasn’t working and I was quite anxious, but I finally found my way — and her happy smile made me feel safe and at home. I gave her a big hug. During the month, I learned so many new things — making smudge sticks, building an agroforest, creating microorganisms, and even making jam. We also went to the ocean almost every day, surfing and hiking together. Everything was inspiring and meaningful. I truly hope to come back someday.
