What a special place this is. I stayed for 4 weeks and completely loved it and I already look forward to going back! Beyza (the lead on site and vet) is a lovely person, and always made me feel included even with the language barrier - the day out at the beach with her friends for volleyball and barbeque was a social highlight! She is incredibly caring and dedicated to her work, saving and enriching lives, she would never give up on an animal without a fight - she is truly heroic. The twins Berna and Busra were also very lovely, and their love for the animals also shone through. Though we didn't always understand each other, Google Translate was very useful and we shared plenty of laughs that way! Okan, who lives on site and is the main 24/7 caretaker of the shelter is an absolute gem of a man. He loves the animals, particularly the dogs, and they love and respect him as their alpha - his bond with them is unmatchable. He has a big heart, and I had a great time with him - sharing dinners, teaching him card games, learning from him the ways of the shelter, teasing each other like siblings and just sharing some quiet time with. All the other volunteers I got to meet were great too, and I truly felt part of the team. I inevitably fell in love with many of the cats and dogs at the shelter. In particular: Lana the chocolate lab who was very shy at first, but grew to love me and would run across the courtyard, tail wagging to greet me, then gently lay herself down at my feet for tummy rubs! ; Aruna the ginger cat with no eyes, who, from day one seemed to seek me out and climb up from my feet to my shoulders, and who I had as a roommate for a few nights after her surgery. She was completely adorable, gave so much love while purring loudly, and was also so bold for a blind cat! ; Vega the little kitten with a stump of a tail who I also had as a roommate for some time while her tail and bottom healed, she would hop around like a bunny rabbit zooming from one end of the room to the other, and loved to play with my toes and fingers, then fall asleep in her hammock when she wore herself out! ; Lola + Lottie (possibly renamed) the two surviving sisters of the puppies found on the beach. Lottie had a bad case of parvo and had to stay in hospital for a while, so I had the pleasure of keeping Lola company quite a lot while she was alone, and I grew quite attached. It was so heart-warming when Lottie pulled through and they were reunited, they are both mad and cuddly in equal measure! ; The very unique looking white + brown speckled French bulldog with icy blue eyes who was abandoned by her owners. Being close for cuddles and giving kisses were her favourite thing! ; Frida the little white dog who was separated from the others after some fighting. I couldn't have loved her more! She would yap and jump at the door of her pen and was always so excited to see me. I loved spending time with her and just being with her for her to settle down for the nights. She just needs a loving owner and a sofa to snuggle up on, and I'm so happy to say she is being adopted soon! ; The poor dog with a hole in his face and dislocated jaw (probably inflicted by a human) who was just so sweet and loving despite what he must've been through. Unfortunately, it was discovered that he also had a tumour in his face and chemotherapy was due to start just after I left - Beyza wasn't giving up on this boy, and I SO hope he pulls through. There were also a couple of animals who sadly died while I was there who I had the honour and utter joy of giving love to before they passed..: The tiny kitten who was handed over one evening, plonked on my shoulder by Okan while making dinner and whom I (unofficially) called Chip as she always loved to be on my shoulder from then on. She had the runniest nose and eyes, but I was delighted to be able to give her some love and spend some fun time with her before my toughest morning there when she died. Beyza did everything she could to save her life but she was just too small to make it. ; The very sweet Rottweiler with a tumour on her mouth. I got to sit with her through chemotherapy and would spend quality time with her most days, but unfortunately she just couldn't fight anymore. Even though there were some hard times, I have been back in the UK for two days and still can't wipe the smile off my face from this amazing experience! I'm sure it will hit me soon how much I miss it and everyone there. I am at a point in my life where I need really think about what I want for my future, and my time at the shelter has totally changed my plans - I now know that I *have to* work with animals, and am excited to be looking into future opportunities, more volunteering and career wise. I cannot thank the team in Aksu enough for being totally brilliant and giving me a life changing experience. I will return one day, and already look forward to it!

I came for staying from 2 weeks to 1 month...somehow i ended up staying 8 months 🫠 During my time here i experienced every possible aspect of the place: all the ups, downs, expected and unexpected twitst that could happen. For me this was beyond just a volunteering experience, but it became my nest for a long time. Since day one Gonzalo and Kat were very kind and welcoming, quickly making this place feel like home. The atmosphere of Langkawi (and specially Homesol) invites you to slow down and appreciate those little things: sometimes is a good conversation after food, sometimes is to eat the best papaya of your life coming from the garden 😆. If you want to be social, you can. If you want to be on your own, you can also. So whatever is your mood you will be able to feed it. Considering that it is a guesthouse, volunteering intensity may vary depending on the situation (like high/low season, special dates and events in the island...etc), but overall we always found the way to make it work, and it definitely felt rewarding to see how the place was growing and improving step by step. The location is perfect, the island is beautiful and slow paced, and life in general is very affordable. If you have been moving for some time, this is the perfect place to make a stop, take life more easy and charge batteries for your next episode. Everything said a couple of times already, thank you for everything hermano. Until the next time 🙏🏻☀️

I stayed at the place for one week and had a wonderful time. Carmen and the other local volunteers are extremely kind and welcoming, and while I wasn’t there for long, I felt like I was very quickly able to feel at home. The work is mainly cleaning the kennels in the morning, but there are other tasks needed to be completed throughout the day (giving medication, helping with puppies if there are any, building projects, cooking, walking dogs etc). It’s very flexible so you can contribute in whatever way you would like. The dogs are sweet and playful, so come prepared to get dirty. Overall I highly recommend this rescue.

Caro and Marten were exceptional workawayers. They stayed with us for a month, it was a truly wonderful experience. Both are extremely punctual and dedicated, always putting in their best. Their presence was highly enjoyable, and we shared memorable moments together playing board games I wholeheartedly recommend these two.

I stayed at the finca for 1 month and had a great time. Pablo, Caroline, Michelle, Jose Carlos and Daron were all welcoming, kind and patient as I learned new skills and contributed to the various projects. It’s hard work physically but nothing that you can’t adjust to, and Pablo is flexible with the projects you work on! The animals are cute and add great entertainment to the beautiful setting. I would highly recommend joining them for a work exchange.

I had a great time at the hostel. The work was fair for the exchange if free accommodation. I cleaned the kitchen, bathroom, sweeped the house, made laundry and the rooms and worked in the small garden. Martin is open and also likes to chat with you. You feel welcomed and as a part of the hostel. The beach is super close. I can really recommend Mompiche as a place to go. Not so touristy, but still enough to do. You can take dance classes, go surfing, every weekend is party, eat at good restaurants, the people are chill. Would recommend it!

We spent two weeks with Lory and Tim after Easter and couldn't have wished for a better place as our first workaway experience. (We joked about it with them that the algorythm seems to "send" all first workawayers their way. If it is so, we can only be thankful for it.) Lory is always kind, Tim is always smiling and joking and our small appartment was comfortable. When the weather is good you most certanly wold like to spend working hours and freetime outside as well because they live in a beautiful spot. The work was varied, never boring and they adjusted the tasks to our abilities: pruning, lawnmowing, planting, cleaning the open air bar area and other parts of the large house not in use in winter, whitewashing stairs and walls, excavation of the pool pumps for repair and so on. We enjoyed our meals together, Loredana's cooking, getting to know them and their lifestyle better. They are a very hardworking couple and so it is inspiring to work alongside them. They deserve a lot of respect. The dogs are very friendly and make you laugh sometime. Aila follows you around so you can see her hunting for lizards and rodents and Mila is around for her share of tender care. If you would like to immerse yourself in nature and art, search no more, you are at the RIGHT SPOT! Dear Lory and Tim, thank you once more for your trust in letting us into your home and lives, our time in Fratticiola is and will be a cherished memory.

I really enjoyed my two weeks at Mary's and Eran's farm. I would have expanded if I had more time! Finally I could learn things such as working with the guardaña and other machines. I loved working with the machete, cutting banana fruits and leaves. There are so many fruits around, I adored that! I learned a lot, about cacao, how to make chocolate, about maracuyá, etc. I was free to choose the activities I liked most. I could be creative created my first own table. It felt like home with the two of them. We had good conversation and god chocolate! Food was delicious, we ate vegan, but if I wanted to add my egg or even meat I was free to do so and prepare it in the kitchen. It's a special place right in the nature with two special people on it. Mary and Eran are super warm, kind, active, courios about the world and open. And definitely interesting, they have so many stories to tell! I will definitely come back!! A big hug to the two of them and thanks for everything!

I would definitely come back!

Had an excellent experience with Lena and Joris. We built a storage place together and planned a bit more on how to go forward with the installation of a photovoltaic system in their tiny house. Their garden is lovely and they are very accommodating, easy going and fun to hang around with. Highly recommend going here if you want to take a closer look into gardening, DIY and living a sustainable lifestyle. They have plenty of knowledge and experiences to share, plus always something cool you can do during your freetime. Thanks again for this great experience!! Hope we can meet again for some more cool projects :D

It was my first workaway experience, and I loved it. In addition to learning how to work in a hostel, I had plenty of time to explore Sofia, make friends, hike at Vitosha mountain, and enjoy the january snow. The staff is really super friendly, and I highly recommend staying at the hostel. I hope to come back again!

I had such a great time staying with Margie, Terry and Mary! They made me feel at home and made sure I was having a good time. They also cooked a lovely dinner every night! Work was really only a couple of hours a day and could be done when it suited me. Would recommend!
